We always knew some people were allergic to red meat, just like people can be allergic to anything at all. It wasn't until the 2000's that anyone learned a particular type of red meat allergy was caused by the introduction of alpha-gal into the bloodstream by a tick bite, and so this allergy was newly named and described as alpha-gal syndrome. Then, in 2026, a grown adult believed it was possible for humans to have created any part of this process, saw some headlines on google mentioning how it was "identified" in 2008, believed this meant that it was actually brand new to nature, did not actually open any of the results to read them, believed they still qualified as a "critical thinker," and broadcast this multi-layered intellectual failure this smugly.

I currently work in a tick lab doing tick research, my first paper was on the biochemistry of alpha gal and another protein as a potential immune suppression mechanism for Borrelia burgdorferi in ticks.
