Hello! It's been a while, I hope you're doing well. Stay healthy as always <3
I've noticed that there's not a lot of fic for Mikey in general, I think it's because most people saw him more as a little brother (me included).
So may I request a fic where 2012!Mikey has a crush on the Reader, but the Reader only sees him as a little brother, so Mikey knowing that decides to keep the crush a secret.
It could be angst if you only see him as a lil brother, or it could be a fluff where Mikey notices the moment the Reader finally likes him back. Up to you <3
Thank you so much and take your time, no pressure if you don't wanna do it <3
Hello, my friend! Okay, first off, thank you so much for the kind words and the sweet check-in! I am doing good. Schools been a bit rough but we are pushing through. I hope you are doing good aswell 🥹.
Like you’re so right, Mikey doesn't really get a lot of stuff compared to his brothers (we all love Mikey here). I do understand that many see him as a little brother, given how they characterize him across the iterations. I would think that 2012 makes that characterization a lot more apparent compared to his other variations.
Pieces of the orange comet
To the rest of the world, you are a total enigma. Mikey manages to bypass every single one of your boundaries with his bright energy. When the weight of a hidden crush and the painful label of being "just a little brother" finally cracks Mikey's cheerful facade, he seeks comfort in the one place his brothers never thought possible: right against your side.
None. Slight angst if you squint and fluff. The reader isn't a big fan of physical connection. Reader can be portrayed as being older than Mikey but it's not mentioned. No use of Y/n
Thank you to @lillycitta for proofreading this for me. If y'all are into KNY (Demon Slayer) she's your gal check her out!!
How you had managed to become friends with the turtles was still a wonder to them all. You were not much for social contact, not repulsed but like to have your own space. Yet, you still managed to spend time with the four brothers, hanging out in their sewer home.
Well, just as long as none of them got too close to you.
Raph swears that you hissed at him once when he stepped into your personal bubble, causing him and his brothers to genuinely fear you might grow out claws like a cat. Leo, Donnie, and Raph learned very fast that you did not like physical contact. They made sure to keep a respectful, calculated distance from you at all times.
But Michelangelo? Mikey was the solitary, baffling exception to your preferences.
The sewer home had its natural ambient of food and life, family talking, training, and chilling. Mikey’s fingers flew across the buttons with their usual manic speed, but his mind wasn't on Super Robo Mecha Force Five.
It was on you. Or rather, it was on the heavy, phantom ache in his chest.
Just last week, when Raph was teasing him about being messy, you had jumped in to defend him, throwing a protective arm over Mikey's shoulders and saying, "Leave him alone, Raph. He's like the awesome little brother I never had."
The words had stung, a tiny poke directly to his heart. right then and there, Mikey made a promise to himself- keep his massive crush a secret. He would keep the jokes coming, keep the pranks rolling, and never let you know he wished he was something more. It was better to have you like this than to make things weird and lose you completely.
"Aaaand BOOM! High score!" Mikey cheered, though his voice lacked its usual high-octane energy as the victory music flared.
He slumped back on his stool, his shoulders dropping just a tiny bit. You were sitting on the brick ledge right next to him. Seeing his sudden drop in mood, you didn't hesitate. You hopped down and wrapped him in a massive, grounding hug, burying your face against his shoulder.
Mikey froze, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. Usually, he basked in the fact that he was the only person alive allowed to touch you without getting glared at. But right now, the warmth of your arms felt bittersweet. He squeezed tight for just a moment, before forcing himself to pull away with a goofy, exaggerated yawn.
"Phew! Being a gaming best is exhausting. I need pizza."
"Always," you smiled softly. But as Mikey turned toward the kitchen, you didn't follow right away.
You stood by the arcade cabinet, watching him walk away. You blinked, a strange, sudden warmth blooming in your chest.
You had given him hugs before, but just now, when his arms had wrapped around you, something shifted. He wasn't actually smaller than you. In fact, his shell was broad, his grip was incredibly strong, and his eyes had a depth in them that he hadn't seen before at all.
Your heart did a sudden, unexpected stutter. Wait, you thought, your cheeks warming up. Oh. Oh no.
Over the next two weeks, the dynamic in the lair completely flipped. You found yourself craving his presence, your strict boundaries melting away exclusively for him.
The tipping point came on a rainy Tuesday evening. The boys returned home after a long, brutal patrol, their bodies and minds completely drained after a fierce clash with the Foot Clan. All they wanted was to lay down, relax their aching bodies, and not worry about anything else.
That was until they came to the main area and found you sitting on the couch, waiting for them.
Neither Donnie, Leo, nor Raph had time to react before Mikey let out what could only be described as a pathetic, miserable wail. He threw his arms up in the air, running straight toward you. You jumped up from the couch, eyes wide open as you watched the orange-masked turtle charge.
"I'll get the medkit," Donnie mumbled automatically, his brothers nodding, very much believing Mikey would need medical help after what your introverted, touch-repulsed self might do to him for invading your space.
"It was nice knowing you, Mikey," Raph whispered to Leo, waiting for you to scream or push the younger turtle off of you as he threw his arms around your neck, burying his face dramatically against your shoulder.
But much to their absolute surprise, you didn’t hiss. You didn't push him away. Instead, your whole body softened. You wrapped your arms tightly around his torso, comforting him, your hands moving in slow, soothing circles against his shell.
"What happened?" you asked, your voice laced with genuine, deep concern. "Are you hurt?"
"The Purple Dragons threw a smoke bomb and the ash blocked my vision!” the orange turtle said out, his voice cracking with pure, exhausted drama. "And Raph yelled at me, and my knee hurts, and I just wanted to come home!"
"Oh no," you said, your face showing absolute sincerity as you started to guide Mikey toward the couch so he could sit down. "That sounds incredibly stressful. You've had such a hard night."
"It was!" Mikey exclaimed, letting you guide him.
He sat down next to you on the couch, and without a second thought, you wrapped an arm around him, pulling him flush against your side. You held him close, listening intently as he rambled on with a long, breathless explanation of the battle.
"Aw, dear Mikey," you murmured softly, your hand moving over his head, smoothing down the back of his neck in a deeply comforting manner.
Mikey leaned into you completely, shifting until he was practically curling up in your lap, his head resting securely against your chest. He let out a long, happy sigh, his eyes fluttering shut as the stress of the night—and the burden of his secret crush, completely melted away under your touch.
"It’ll be okay," you whispered, twisting his bandana with your free hand. “We will get you something to eat. But for now, just relax."
Mikey let out a content, purr-like sound, snuggling deeper against you, completely safe in his favorite haven.
All the while, Mikey’s brothers stood completely frozen in the middle of the lair.
Donnie was still holding the strap of his medical duffel, Leo’s jaw was practically on the floor, and Raph was staring with wide, unblinking eyes, wondering how on earth the most touch-averse person they knew had just turned into a soft, doting boyfriend.
Leo slowly looked at Raph. "Did you... did you just see that?"
"If I try to sit there, I'll come back bruised right?" Raph whispered back, utterly baffled.
You ignored them entirely, keeping your arm wrapped protectively around your turtle, your thumb gently tracing the edge of his orange mask.
you cooed under your breath, a small, private smile tugging at your lips as Mikey squeezed your waist in response.
