what breaks my heart about the way i see johan + tenma's relationship is how empty johan's life actually is? and how much of that barren space is taken up by tenma. nina too, but that's still just two people. which is such a stark contrast to all the friends and fond acquaintances tenma manages to find on his quest to track down johan. he may have upended his whole life because of a kid he barely knew, but he also very much had a (pretty fulfilling) life to upend and continues to build warm personal connections right and left in spite of all the Horrors. even in terms of screen time, johan himself is, paradoxically, not that big a part of tenma's story. whereas johan has his criminal schemes and his desolate memories and his apocalyptic visions, but that's not exactly the stuff that gives substance to one's life. so of course he's going around telling random kids he's going to get shot by this japanese guy soon. what else do you have to look forward to johan
