Prompt was a coffee shop AU with Jeremiah and Bruce.

The prompt was “Soulmate AU” and while I didn’t exactly put them in an alternate universe, I did mention their other lives so hopefully this counts and you like it. <3

It’s set during the season 4 finale right after their GCPD breakout with a heavy focus on Jeremiah’s POV. PG-13, I guess? I don’t know what other things you put before fics but if the teaser below compels you, feel free to read on.

Conquering the Infinite

okay this is five days late and i am so, so sorry! this is for mike (who i think is currently @godhatesmichael ? but i’m not entirely sure, so fingers crossed!) through the @batjokesgothamexchange the prompt i chose was high school au, and i wrote it in a pretty experimental style, so i hope you like it! if you don’t just let me know and i’d be happy to write something else, especially since this is late.

He was busy debating the merits of blowing up a can of Axe in the hallway when something caught his eye. Or, someone. Usually, he could give less of a shit about new students. They were all just ants crawling over each other, pretending like they weren’t all trapped behind fingerprint-smudged glass in a man-made ant hill. Sometimes someone would be interesting for a day or a week or, if they were lucky, two weeks, but Jerome had a habit of breaking his toys if he wasn’t careful.

(addendum: he was never careful. it was part of his charm. all slick inelegance wrapped up in a ratty pullover.)

Sometimes, rarely, someone would appear that he didn’t get bored of and he’d stick to them like gum lodged in the back of a throat.

Those people never hung around him too long either.

Jonathan —sweet, crack-gaunt Johnny-boy — noticed where he was looking. “He’ll eat you alive.”

Promises, promises.

“You know him?”

He hummed, eyes lidded with something that Jerome couldn’t make out, but made his hackles rise anyways. “Everyone knows him.” He picked at his teeth, before declaring, as if it should mean something, “Bruce Wayne. He’s probably even more fucked up than you are.”

He said that like it was a taunt. A challenge, maybe.

“Think he needs a welcome committee?”

Jonathan smiled. It was horrific. Jerome’s seen maggots that looked prettier. “I think that sounds like a great idea.”

Uhh, yeah.

Hello hello! I have a very special gift from the @batjokesgothamexchange ! My gift is for @izayasdemons who requested Bruce/Jerome. I couldn’t decide whether or not to do angst or fluff, so I did both!

 ”Putting honey in the lion’s mouth, Brucie?“ Jerome asks, a serene tone to it, his throat only a little closed up. There‘s a trail of wetness running down behind Bruce‘s ear. He feels it roll over his neck, his left shoulder blade, then close to his spine like a solemn but ardent reminder of death. ”It’ll eat you up. It eats everything.“ He pauses, years caught in one halt of breath. “It ate me.“

It‘s a trap because everything‘s a trap these days, for better or worse. Bruce should know better than to encourage him, to stabilize the illusion they… are made for each other, as he once put it. He should take flight now in fact, hit Jerome in the unprotected pit of his stomach and reach the cell‘s entrance while he tumbles over in pain since otherwise he’ll never leave this circle of hate and sickened obsession they’ve built with their fists and half-deaths. But he can‘t find no reason to. He doesn‘t want to dig that deep. For once in his life, he doesn‘t want to strive for being any better than he actually is.

He’s the young hero Gotham sets its hopes on, and Jerome is a murderer who’s lost the wheel ages ago. That‘s the truth. That‘s all there is to it as long as you don‘t dive beneath the surface of a court case, bruises and the cursed hatchet of a cult.

What a terrible, terrific match we‘d make, he wonders, yanks Jerome back on his hair and kisses him with all the self-disgust and desperation he can muster. We‘d never get along. We‘d destroy each other to bits, and call it love.

… He‘s a sad, evil thing. What am I going to do with that?

Since my story got a little out of control concerning the length (over 15k after some editing now) I decided to split it into three chapters in total, posting the first chapter on 9th September (Sunday), the second chap on 12th September (Wednesday) and the last chapter on 14th September (Friday) to round it all up.
