Bodhicassian week!

Guys.  

This week has been amazing with all the new stuff coming out left and right.

If you were like me, doing all that creating pumped you up, and wore you out, so you might have missed some real gems that others worked on.  

So after a well deserved nap, I strongly encourage you to reblog the art and headcanons, making sure you tag (if you think I’m above looking at the tags you are sorely mistaken) and read the fic, and leave a comment.

Because that is what I’m doing.  

Look, as an author, a kudos is good.  I’m not knocking a kudos.  But words mean a lot to us.  Even if it’s a smiley face, a heart (you’ll have to go old school for that one <3), incoherent squeeling, or just saying “Love this,” you will make that author’s day.  They will squee, hold their comment close to their heart and smile. If you do it on enough of their stuff they will write more. Feed the author, please.

Just in time for Bodhicassian Week, Day 7, I am pleased to present the first three chapters of Five Years Ago. This is the prequel to Twelve Hour Shift, and the fact that it exists is pretty much entirely  @writinredhead​ ‘s fault. Thanks for encouraging me to write it.

They cleared the moon’s atmosphere, the mining facility spinning to a distant, coppery curve. The stars waned to ribbons of light as Cassian made the jump to hyperspace, K-2SO held tight to the flight controls as the shuttle creaked in protest.

“We’ve depleted most of our shield backup,” the droid informed him. One of his oculars was dimmed as a result of circuit rupture, there was a deep gouge in the metal plating at his chest. They’d barely reached lightspeed before Cassian had his field kit in hand, Kaytoo glancing up in surprise.

“Cassian…”

“Hold still,” Cassian interrupted. Standing gave him roughly the same height as Kay in the pilot’s seat, he could have the damaged wiring replaced before they were halfway to Yavin.

“Cassian-”

“Aren’t you supposed to be a security droid?” Cassian muttered, searching through his kit for a central fitting. “How’d those deathtroopers get round the back of the ship anyway?”

“Cassian,” said K-2, halting when Cassian fixed him with a glare.

“I’m not the one you need to talk to,” the droid said quietly.

Lmao the ride home is super long so here’re EVEN MORE headcanons.

It’s Bodhi’s mission to make Cassian laugh as much as possible

Honestly tbh Cassian also really really loves it when Bodhi laughs too so like…they have a bunch of inside jokes that legit don’t make sense

Kay and Bodhi get along super well and Cassian is outwardly unaffected but on the inside he’s melting because his best friends are friends with each other

There’s a lot of night time talks-they’re both slight insomniacs so there’s a lot of speaking to each other at night

I made a headcanon once that they love to stargaze and yeah…they do that a lot

The way they fall in love is slowly and then all at once. It’s not one realization but sort of multiple that snowball into a “wow I love you.”

@luminousfinn (who’s now @sithchirrut) once had a headcanon/fic that delved into Bodhi having to accept the fact that he’s in love with a man who’s in love with a cause/belief first and foremost and I feel like this is something he’d definitely have to grapple with

like Cassian would, without a doubt, give his life for the rebellion and Bodhi (who’s commitment is nothing to sneeze at) would have to come to terms with it

The two of them sharing bits of themselves that they’ve never shared with others. Cassian is private by nature and Bodhi sort of learned to be the more he’d been exposed to the Empire so a lot of their initial time together was navigating those channels and figuring out how to best communicate with each other

h o n e s t l y they don’t even realize that they’re doing this until they have some news and they find that the first person they want to tell is the other

They’ve kissed before, stolen moments that they told themselves didn’t really mean anything (even though it really really did).

They both had a hard time understanding that there’s someone that actually gives a damn about them. Sure there’s the others but it’s like…amplified when it’s for the other. So their relationship has a sort of push-pull quality to it

One time Bodhi caught Cassian telling a bunch of kids a story and he couldn’t help but stand there enraptured as Cassian held their attention. He couldn’t stop the errant thought of the two of them, long after the war was over, settling down on a planet and having a child.

he immediately tries to push it out of his mind 

it isn’t until later, after they’ve confessed their feelings for each other that he admits it and Cassian, almost shyly, admits that he may have wanted a child. Not now, of course, maybe not for a long while, but one day. Maybe. With Bodhi.

Aight so I won’t be able to knock out a chapter today so how about some headcanons instead!!!

They’re the pining “He doesn’t really like me like that” sort of couple

Both of them think they’re slick with their crushes but it’s super obvious to everyone

They act like a couple even though they swear they’re not

There’s a bet going around the base about when they’d actually get their act together and become a couple

Baze wins, surprising everyone

Neither of them have any idea what the hell they’re doing half the time

Honestly though? I could see them spending a lot of time denying their feelings for one another. Neither of them think they deserve the other which is utter bullshit in everyone’s opinion

They don’t actually confess? At least not at first. They express their appreciation for each other through little things (getting the other food when they know they haven’t eaten, letting the other rest against their shoulder, etc.)

Physical contact between the two of them is gradual

By this I mean that they’re both simultaneously touch starved but also shy away from contact with others.

It starts with sitting close enough together that you can practically feel their body, to gentle pats on the shoulder, to brushing hands, to lingering hugs and then….

Cassian is the one that initiates the hugging, surprising the hell out of both of them. He finds Bodhi tucked away in a corner, shaking and spends hours trying to coax him out. Eventually, Bodhi comes out and Cassian just wraps him up in a hug

No joke though the first time Bodhi made Cassian laugh he was mesmerized (it was at that point he admits to himself that he loves him)

he does nothing with this information

There’s a mission that Bodhi does that doesn’t involve Cassian (it’s a first in a long time for both of them). It’s supposed to be a routine mission, and Bodhi’s supposed to come back in a couple of days. Only it turns into a month and Cassian is lowkey freaking out. Unable to get the voice out of his head that whispers that all of this could’ve been avoided if he’d just stayed away.

Bodhi comes back a month later, extremely hurt and has to be immediately taken to the medbay. Cassian paces outside the door and finally admits to himself, during those hours where he didn’t know Bodhi’s condition, that he loves the man. 

He whispers it to Bodhi’s unconscious form and then proceeds to limit contact with him. 

Cue Bodhi being upset and deciding to ignore him back

Everyone else suffers

Cassian eventually breaks when Bodhi is assigned another mission and quietly tells the other man why he started ignoring him, why seeing Bodhi unconscious on that hospital bed terrified him more than he can admit. Bodhi looks at him, takes Cassian’s hands in his own and whispers that he loves him. It takes Cassian a minute to reply but he breathes it out like a quiet prayer.
