Daily Spread; Theme of the day, What Lies Underneath, Advice for the Day
I oftentimes struggle to interpret reversed cards. I think it’s an issue with my black & white thinking. I try to reword it entirely opposite, word for word, instead of inverting the meaning of the card as a whole.
Maybe the reason I think I struggle with it is because; What I interpret as the inverse of a card never quite matches what I find when I look the meaning up online. The meaning online, of which, I will be referencing for this reading.
The 9 of wands upright is quiet persistence, resilience against hard times. The man in the card is standing as upright as the wands surrounding him, despite his bandaged head.
To me, it feels like the man is looking over his shoulder, bracing himself for whatever is to come but also letting himself rest after what he’d already gone through.
So then, what the reverse of that?
The opposite of resilience is fragility, vulnerability, weakness. It’s being unprepared and without guts. I’ve been feeling like I lack guts lately, so I accept my interpretation at face value.
Labyrinthos suggests similar interpretations of the reversed 9 of wands. Being stubborn and refusing compromise, getting defensive and giving up—a heavy emotional cloud washes over me as I interpret this card more and more.
However, what’s a theme without a subplot?
I felt myself pulled to this card the more I looked at it. I don’t think I’ve ever pulled The Star. If I had, I didn’t appreciate it then as much as I do now.
This beautiful, giant, nude woman pouring from her cups into the earth. Fueling life and spirit and emotion—water. Life and maternity is an eternal cycle in nature, and I am a part of that. I can receive life and spirit by giving life and spirit.
I’ve been trying to be more appreciative of health, lately, which is hard seeing as I’ve not much valued mine these past 25 years. But time to time I get an itch and really lather on the skin care, up my oral hygiene, eat clean, and do what I need to do for my health.
Then I give up. That’s where the 9 of wands comes back to bite me. But The Star…is very compelling. She’s beautiful and contrasting and surrounded by the 7 chakras which also reside within her. Everything is balanced and renewed within itself and I aspire for that homeostasis.
I see why it lies underneath, because I really have to dig down deep to access that motivation!
A simple and clearly depicted card, the man in the 10 of Wands is burdened. He is carrying more than he should and his head is weighed down with the stress and pressure. What he carries is just as important as it was when it was quiet resilience in the 9 of wands, but that doesn’t make it any lighter a load to bear.
In the 9 of Wands, there was nothing but trees and skies in the horizon. In the 10 of Wands, past the struggle and heavy load, there is a glimpse of a town—civilization. Community. People will appreciate his work, but he needs to be cautious of being overworked.
Pulling this for advice today is extremely relevant to my day, as I have a work meeting later on. My new managerial position is great in some ways, but I feel under-trained and unprepared for the daily routines when running things alone. I am going to bring this up at my meeting, and will need to make sure not to seem unwilling or unable—as I am capable.
