The first rule of fandom is have fun. The second rule of fandom is find an enabler and become an enabler. Yes you should write that fic. What if it was even hornier? What if it was angstier? What if you wrote it just for me?
you can be both employed & way too online. itâs called âposting on the clock,â and actually, itâs praxis.
why do men have this eternal fear of being used for money they donât have lol

There was a reply on that last post (which I have deleted, so don't go looking) asking why I want to defend pedophilia, and I think the crux of the issue is that i don't think fanfiction is pedophilia
The reason why pedophilia is such a shocking thing to think about and such a strong taboo across cultures is because it can result in the harm of children.
No child is harmed when someone types words on a screen and posts those words to the internet.
Now, I have no idea about the real life habits of the person who did the writing and the posting - I admit that. But neither does anyone else. That person could be a criminal, but it's much more likely they're a teenager writing a fantasy about an older actor/character they have a crush on. Or someone grappling with what was done to them when they were a child. Or someone who enjoys the sensation of being horrified and writes horrific stories because of that. Or a bunch of other types of people who have other reasons all their own.
Writing about sex (even sex you find absolutely horrific and vile) is not the same as having sex or committing rape. Writing about murder is not the same thing as actually killing someone. Writing about being drunk is not the same thing as chugging down a mickey of whiskey. I once wrote a story about waltzing and I've barely ever danced in my life.
The reason why people like me make a distinction between stories and real life is because the people in stories (even if those stories are about real people!) are only as real as the Barbies I played with when I was a kid. I used to smoosh their faces together to make them kiss. I'm doing the same thing with characters, and the smooshing is happening with words instead of dolls, but it amounts to the same thing.
it's just really apparent that people think it's okay to want pain but morally abhorrent to want to give it. sorry but the sadist gets to have fun too. it's actually pretty crucial to the process.
if I said I was going to a taekwondo class would you feel the need to tell me kicking people on the street is bad or.
Image ID: A screenshot of a tumblr comment that says "yeah, its only abhorrent imo, when the recipient is non consenting, i've" the screenshot cuts off.
Will admitting to having a bit of a crush on Steve at times and Jonathan is just like, "Yeah. We all do. Do you have a crush on anyone you age? Can it not be Mike?"
And Will is just, "Can we circle back to 'we all have a crush on Steve?'"
"No."

my momâs trans allyship is on another level
she once called my friendâs deadname âthat stupid thing his mom calls himâ
I was once talking to my 75 year old Chinese dad in passing about a trans friend of mine not getting along with her family and he asked why and I said err, because she's trans, dad.
He asked: "Oh, was she the only son or something before *waves hand*?" and I was like, warily, no she has two brothers. And he responded with a great deal of confusion: "Then what's their problem?!?!"
Later on: "Anyway, even if she WAS the only son, that's not her problem, that's THEIR problem. They should have had more sons if they were going to be bothered about it."
Knowing what I know about chinese culture thereâs something so beautifully simple about his logic of âno son to carry on family name/look after them in old age/all the other stuff? Skill issue! Shouldâve had more sons! Shouldâve kept the family unit strong yourself! Blaming your daughter for your own failure of family planning is W E A K!â and then he learns there are more sons and it completely breaks his train of logic because if yes to more sons then why issue?? You have two others and youâre mad you donât have three?? Whack. Greedy.
I can already envision him as an ancient lord of a powerful house looking down his nose at the latest messenger bringing gossip from the house of his offspringâs friend and going ânow they have a daughter to marry into another family for powerful alliances and two sons to take over her former duties and somehow theyâre still complaining about their good fortune? They shall not survive the winter.â and then sipping his tea with all the grim satisfaction of someone about to watch an unnecessary soap opera of drama unfold from a safe distance or something
nathan you are elite employee esp for the philly shade
Blackout poetry exists on a dual axis from "banal" to "insightful" on the input side and "kind of deep" to "incredibly fucking dumb" on the output side, and while taking something banal and producing something kind of deep is well and fine, for my money taking something insightful and rendering it incredibly fucking dumb is where the real art is.
#i stuck the word 'banal' in there twice specifically so that 'anal' would be low hanging fruit#but i genuinely did not anticipate 'banana' --@prokopetz
For as much as they tell you about Stop Drop and Roll as a kid, I really expected to be on fire more times in my life.
All jokes aside, the real reason kids get drilled on âstop drop and rollâ so aggressively is because it needs to be a reflex. Sure, getting set on fire is unlikely, but if DOES happen, you will be terrified and in a lot of pain, and youâll need to handle it FAST. The default response your brain will have to that is the standard monkey brain instinctive reaction to being terrified and in pain - get the fuck away from the danger. Which is the worst possible response to being on fire, because panicking and trying to run will just fan the flames and make it much worse. But if youâve had âstop drop and rollâ beaten into your head a thousand times all your life, thereâs a good chance that in that initial moment of âoh fuck Iâm on fireâ, instead of panicking, your brain will jump straight to the trained response of âhit the ground and smother the flamesâ.
And the fact that itâs NOT a common threat is why we need to drill it so hard in the first place - instictive reactions to pain/danger are usually the correct response! Itâs survival instincts! Like, if you get a bad cut, your first reaction will be to slap a hand on it and keeo it there, because âapply pressure to bleeding woundâ is the correct response! But being set on fire just doesnât happen enough to be a serious concern as a species, so the instinctive reaction to that happening will actually cause horrific burns and/or death, because we donât really need a naturally programmed in response for such a rare problem.
But it does still happen sometimes, and the correct reaction is very simple, so basically programming kids to stop drop and roll if on fire is easy, harmless, and probably saves a fair amount of lives.

i will not lie, friends in my phone, i have been imagining affection from time to time
Iâm noticing an increase in new fic writers on AO3 whoâŚuhâŚmayy not know how to format their fics correctly..so here is a quick and VERY important tip
Using a random fic of mine as example..
The left example: â â â
The right example: âââ
Idk how many times Iâve read a good fic summary and been so excited to read before clicking on it and being met with an ugly wall of text. When I see a huge text brick with zero full line breaks my eyes blur and I just siiiigh bc either I click out immediately or I grin and bear itâŚitâs insufferable!
If a new character speaks, you need a line break. If you notice a paragraph is becoming too large, go ahead and make a line break and/or maybe reconfigure the paragraph to flow better. Iâm not a pro writer or even a huge fic writer butâŚpleaseâŚtyâŚ
This is a good thing to keep in mind! It is often and unfortunate that a really good fic doesnât get love because its formatting makes it too difficult to read!
I think I figured out why this happens!
AO3's posting form has two modes: Rich Text and HTML. the vast majority of people write in Rich Text editors, aka any normal word processing software (MS Word, Google Docs, Apple Pages, what have you). but when you first open it, the posting form opens in HTML view. if you paste formatted text into HTML view, it erases every piece of formatting, including paragraph spacing.
this is an easy fix. when you go to post your fic, make sure the posting form looks like this:
not like this:
and please spread the word! this is an important piece of computer literacy that nobody is teaching to the new generations and they deserve to know
