Putting on the finishing touches to my work for ‘What The Sea Left Behind’. Throughout my life I’ve had a strong connection to the sea. Both in my upbringing living near the sea, food gathering with my family, adolescence climbing through the mangroves and through to adult life spending time investigating rock pools, flipping rocks, poking through flotsam and jetsam while fossil hunting along the coast. Flotsam is defined as debris in the water that was not deliberately thrown overboard, often as a result from a shipwreck, accident or loss. Jetsam describes debris that was deliberately thrown overboard by people or the crew of a ship in distress, most often to lighten the ship or ones personal load.
