he was mid lecturing when you mentioned this; ace and deuce practically pressed to the wall as riddle yells—a normal day in heartslabyul in all honesty, yet no one was prepared for your compliment.

"...riddle, has anyone ever told you how pretty you are?"

the entire room froze, silence echoed louder then any yell or cry. ace and deuce stare at you while riddle whips his head in your direction.

"i beg your pardon?" he wasn't, mad, just flustered. cheeks slightly pinker then the flamingos.

"i said," you spoke again, readjusting in your seat, "your pretty~"

riddles whole face turned scarlet, he sputters for a solid thirty seconds before finally clearing his throat.

"well...i very much, appreciate your compliment, prefect." he adjusts his collar three separate times.

ace, immediately starts grinning—leaning close to tease his housewarden. "oho, you've got a little something on your face, housewarden—"

"OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!"

"WAIT, IM SORRY!"

you've entered the mostro lounge while azul was by himself, you find him sorting throughout different papers and contracts some poor unfortunate souls signed.

"azul," you spoke softly, appearing beside him while he hummed in response. "ah, prefect. what is it you need?"

you didn't say anything at first, just admiring his face and the way his hand held the pen, smiling gently, you finally replied.

"your...really pretty, azul."

the said pen stopped writing and the housewarden froze. "..come again?" he spoke flustered, "oh, i just said you look really pretty<3"

his glasses practically fogged up, cheeks hot and ears tinted pink. he's never once thought this moment would come, he's spent all his life worrying about his appearance that he can accept compliments usually.

for some reason, he wasn't prepared to be called "pretty..?" he echoed and you nod, still smiling.

he clears his throat, adjusting his glasses and clicks his pen closed. "well, you're quite pretty yourself, dear prefect." he tried to maintain business posture but his composure was slightly cracked.

you’ve found your place in their little society, as the outgoing prefect that’s friendly with first years and housewardens alike, and everyone in between

besides the whole magical realm thing, life is simple. you go to class, you take care of grim, you smile and wave as friends walk by, the works

it feels like there’s always a group of people smiling and laughing around you, from group projects in class, club meetings, scarabia parties, the lunch table, and everywhere in between, you’ve always got people casually chatting with you

it’s during one of these moments that you’re sitting with the other first years around a table at lunch, just letting the conversation flow between you

at some point, one of ace’s humble brags turns to the rest of the group teasing him about his ex “girlfriend,” quickly morphing into a lighthearted conversation of the boys’ nonexistent love lives

“well, y’know, prefect, i’ve never heard you mention dating anyone in the past?” deuce, being the clueless curious guy he is, turns to you, suddenly realizing that he’d never heard you talk on the subject

once the nods and words of agreement slow, you speak up, laughing at the group’s investment in your history with relationships. “well, i obviously haven’t dated anyone here, but i never really dated much in the past either. it just wasn’t that appealing at the time.”

various reactions appear throughout the group, finally setting into a shared air of further curiosity.

ace pipes up again, “but why, though?? that just sounds boring”

once the shared looks make their way through the rest of the group to turn back to you, you decide to briefly entertain him, “i guess i’m kinda just picky, honestly. i want the guy to come up to me and say how he feels and stuff. i don’t want ‘em to be all passive and stuff, cuz then i feel like i’m doing all the work otherwise. it’s kinda stupid, i know.” you just say it how it is to you, not really watching for any of their reactions in particular

that’s most of the reason why you don’t notice that ortho hasn’t been as talkative as usual. (it just seemed normal to you, he is a robot, after all, so he’s not particularly worried about the whole dating thing)

the conversation keeps moving, and lunch passes just as usual, along with the rest of the day.

as you’re walking back to the dorm, accompanied by another group of smiling faces, you’re blissfully unaware of two brothers talking about you, out of sight, out of mind

ortho happened to drop your preference onto a very nervous idia right at the end of a conversation, making the older of the two practically lose it in the moment

as he’s leaving idia’s room, ortho casually calls out to idia, “oh, yeah, btw, the prefect mentioned today that they prefer when people are more straightforward with their feelings. everyone was making fun of ace for…” ortho keeps going for a minute or two, but idia is no longer listening. you like people that are straightforward and brave enough to say what they’re feeling?? idia cannot do that.

he’s barely been functioning with this silly crush of his. you’ve really only interacted a handful of times, and never really 1v1. you’ve always been the center of the crowd, and the only reason idia ever met you when because he was forced out of his room by ortho!

he’s a nervous, anxious recluse, and he never interacts with you alone and for more then a few seconds. but, even under those circumstances, you were always so happy and kind to him, even when he so clearly is trying to escape.

idia is embarrassed that it took so little for him to start shortcircuiting over you, and he’s just been waiting for more of those little moments to randomly happen. he can’t take the initiative! that’s for extroverts, not shut-ins like him…

plus, who even know if you’d even like somebody so introverted like him. he really didn’t know what he’d do if he managed to muster up the courage to even talk to you, much less confess, only to be met by any form of rejection. he’s way too scared for that.

of course, if it were up to him, idia would rather secretly pine for you forever than tell you his feelings and risk rejection, or worse: public humiliation. but, alas, the universe has different plans.

(it’s ortho. ortho has different plans)

so, all of a sudden, after a mysterious “minor magestone power mishap,” idia finds himself outside of the safe haven of his room, and out in the real world (nrc’s campus). whatever will he do???

(it’s hide. he’s gonna hide)

but that never works forever, and ortho knows him too well. before long, he finds himself out in the open again, now joined by ortho.

so, now, idia is roaming the campus, after classes have ended, just dreading the moment he sees anyone. he’s not prepared to talk to people, especially not on such a short notice

he reluctantly follows ortho through the halls, staying alert for any unexpected npcs that may come his way

as the brothers turn the corner of the hall, ortho perks up a little, calling out to someone ahead of him. idia follows his gaze, only to find you, walking out from the last class of the day, dragging a clearly hangry grin by his scruff

“oh, hi ortho!! and idia, it’s nice to see you!” you give him the nice, kind smile, instead of looking through him as some others might. “i was just going to meet everybody at ramshackle. i thought you were already there, ortho?”

ortho fills you in on the whole minor maintenance thing back at the dorm, and how he’s bringing idia out. without a moment’s hesitation, you tell them both to come back to ramshackle and join the rest of your group for games n food

idia almost says no, almost sputtering out a stupid excuse about something fake, only to remember ortho’s words from earlier

in a small, nervous voice, he barely musters up the courage to accept the invite, saying something about not having any other option with the dorm closed

before anyone else can respond, grim escapes from your hold, sprinting away, yelling something about how “the great, powerful mage requires tuna” or some other hangry comment

and so, idia finds himself sitting on a dusty ramshackle couch, as ace, deuce, and grim are running around the common room, with sebek yelling loudly and jack pinching his nose while you just laugh at it all. idia’s definitely out of his element, but he can’t help but let a small, genuine laugh out at the sheer tomfoolery of the situation.

you turn to him, lips still curved into that signature smile, “hey! you finally laughed!” you’d been watching his reactions? why?

it was such a quick moment, quickly interrupted by a can of tuna hitting you square in the chest, making you join the fray of chaos in front of you

idia’s left to grapple with the idea that you’d been noticing him, even when he wasn’t a part of the immediate chaos at hand

he, naturally, keeps spiraling as time goes on, occasionally being interrupted by silliness around him, like epel going full country on sebek are the croc fae yelled something ? (idia has completely lost track of what’s happening here tbh)

naturally, the group settles down to chat over snacks, no longer running around and kicking up dust everywhere as a temporary truce is formed on the name of food.

somehow, idia finds himself pulled into the conversation by you, of all people, and maybe with some nagging from ortho

eventually he finds himself sincerely invested in one of ace’s (admittedly stupid and hard to believe) stories, once again laughing along with the group, and he even finds himself talking some himself

as time goes on, and faces disappear, whether because of curfews or guard obligations, or whatever, idia finds himself talking more, yapping with…. wait… oh crap… he’s talking alone… with you??? and you’re not telling him to shut up?? or giving him weird looks??

he even thought you looked a little… happy? interested??? no… it can’t be…

all of a sudden, he freezes, it’s like the blindfold has been removed and idia is suddenly realizing everything that’s happening

he’s panicking, what if he said something stupid, or weird, or you thought he was a complete loser?

the silence stretches on, until you finally start laughing quietly, a smile once again gracing your face

now, he’s quickly rambling and apologizing for talking so much, only to realize that you’re laughing just a bit more

“idia, it’s nice to see you taking so passionately. i didn’t know you could be so confident talking about things. i’m having fun just listening to you, don’t worry.”

he’s come to his senses, now realizing that he’s intruding in your home late into the night

“i should- umm… probably get going. i don’t wanna stay too long, y’know, max out the save file” he starts to move to leave, trying to plan out how the end scene for this will go

“well, idia, you should come out more, you’re pretty fun”

you found him fun?? that’s not what he expected at all… he thought you’d see him as tedious… he’s not really sure where to go from here…

ortho’s words once again flash through his mind, making him pause once more

“are you sure? i thought i’d be annoying or weird or something…” idia trails off, waiting to see if you’d take it back

“no, of course not! to be fair, no one really tops ace in terms of annoying, but that’s not what i think at all. i don’t see you out much, but i always enjoy it when you show up, even for a little while. you’re always welcome when i’m around” you give him that sweet smile once more, and idia’s brain short circuits and sparks a little

all common sense and prior knowledge goes out the window, and it feels like he just starts picking all the wrong dialogue options.

“i-i like coming out here and… being with you, too…! i-i.. u-umm… i think it’s really fun… a-and you’re really fun… and nice… and… u-umm…” he stutters, voice going small, talking real quickly until he trails off, until he finally, in a really small, high voice, quickly admits, “andiummreallylikeyouandiknowitsweirdbutummmyeahpleasedonthateme…!”

he hides his face, hair as pink as his hidden cheeks, and he quickly moves away and tried to step out ramshackle’s front door.

he’s almost successfully escaped, until he feels your hand on his wrist, both pulling his hand front his face and him back closer to you.

a small, gentle kiss is pressed to his red cheek, making him gasp, almost shutting down as you smile at him, starting to close the door.

“come by tomorrow, m’kay? i don’t mind. actually, i’d like you to.”

you give him that signature, bright, outgoing smile that everyone knows you for, your eyes squinting as you wave goodbye to him, closing the door gently

sevens, he’s so screwed tomorrow. he’s definitely used up his courage meter for the next week…

Idia’s room was your favorite place in all of NRC. It was cozy, filled with the soft glow of multiple monitors and the low hum of cooling fans. The bed was way more comfortable than the lumpy one in ramshackle, and Idia never minded when you curled up there with a book while he gamed. It was peaceful. Domestic, even.

Until it wasn’t.

You were halfway through a chapter when you noticed it, Idia was smiling. Not his usual small, concentrated smirk when he was winning, but a genuine, soft little giggle as his fingers flew across the keyboard. His shoulders shook with quiet laughter.

Must’ve just roasted someone in ranked. you thought, turning the page. But curiosity won. You set your book aside and leaned over to peek at his screen.

His avatar, the cool, edgy one he spent way too many hours customizing was standing next to a girl avatar with an adorable pastel skin. Cute pink hair, frilly outfit, and everything. The in game chat was open, and they were just… talking. Harmless stuff. Compliments on each other’s skin, jokes about the latest patch, nothing overtly flirty.

Still. Your eyebrow twitched.

It wasn’t that you didn’t trust Idia. You did. But some random girl in his game getting all that soft, giggly attention from your boyfriend? Yeah. No.

You slipped off the bed without a sound, sneaking behind his gaming chair. Idia was too focused on the screen to notice.

The second he leaned forward to type something, you struck, leaning down and biting the side of his neck. Not hard enough to hurt, but definitely hard enough to leave a mark.

“Eep!?!” Idia yelped, nearly launching himself out of his chair. His headphones slipped halfway off as he whipped around to stare at you, eyes wide, cheeks instantly flaming, hair turning pink. “W-what was that?!”

You straightened up, giving him the sweetest, calmest smile. “Affectionate.”

Then you turned around, walked back to the bed, picked up your book, and continued reading like nothing had happened.

Idia sat there frozen, hand pressed to the fresh bite mark, mouth opening and closing like a goldfish. His character stood completely still on screen while the girl avatar typed a confused “???” in chat. He didn’t even answer her.

“…What just happened?” he whispered to himself, utterly bewildered.

A few days later you were hanging out with Lilia in the diasomnia lounge. He’d dragged you over to show off his latest hyperfixation, a new game he started playing.

“Look at this adorable skin I got!” Lilia said cheerfully, pulling up the character screen on his tablet. The avatar had pastel pink hair, frilly clothes, and an extremely cute idle animation.

Your brain short-circuited.

Wait.

Pastel pink hair. Cute girly skin. The username. The chat.

You stared. Then stared harder.

“…Lilia…” you said slowly. “Have you been playing with a guy named Gloomurai lately?”

“Hm? Oh yes! He’s quite good. We’ve been running some dungeons together. Why?”

You put your face in your hands.

Lilia blinked innocently. “Is something wrong?”

“No,” you mumbled through your fingers. “Nothing at all.”

It was Lilia the whole time… it was not a girl… just Lilia….

Rielle Corallia • Love at first sight

• Everyone at RSA knows that Rielle is a hopeless romantic. So when he returned one day announcing that he'd found the love of his life, everyone simply waved him off. He'll get over it in a few days. (Or maybe not... in which case they'd start worrying.)

His friends had to stop themselves from groaning every single time he started wondering aloud what you might be doing at that very moment. They could probably provide a police sketch if you ever went missing — he'd described every single detail of your appearance to them countless times.

• Rielle has been collecting little treasures from the sea while waiting for your next meeting. It was impossible not to be charmed as he excitedly showed you every single one of them. On top of that, the idea that you're from another world fascinates him beyond words.

Truth be told, there are plenty of things about life on land that confuse him just as much, since it's so different from the sea.

• Rielle had absolutely no hesitation in confessing that he was smitten with you almost immediately. He's not the type to play mind games or dance around his feelings. His affection is completely genuine and wonderfully transparent. At times, his enthusiasm can be a little overwhelming, but it's impossible to deny his princely charm as he gently weaves tiny seashells into your hair, softly humming a beautiful melody by the shore.

Sebek Zigvolt • Sharing body heat

• Sebek is always cold. Let's be honest — no matter how hard he tries to hide it, he starts shivering whenever the temperature drops too much. So when snow clouds settled over NRC, he was already thoroughly displeased. Things only got worse when Diasomnia's magical heating system broke down.

• The Headmage, of course, promised to fix everything, but it took far longer than anyone would have liked. Sebek loudly protested as Silver, Lilia, and you wrapped him in layer after layer of blankets, forcing endless cups of hot tea into his hands. He kept insisting that he should deal with the malfunction himself for Lord Malleus's sake, but every declaration was interrupted by another sneeze echoing through Diasomnia's stone corridors.

"Are you cold?"

"Of course not! Do you really think something as trivial as — ACHOO!" "...I see."

• The moment you climbed on top of the enormous blanket burrito to keep him from getting any colder, he completely froze.

Normally, Sebek never runs out of things to say, but your sheer boldness left him speechless for nearly a full minute.

"W-What do you think you're doing?! Let me out this instant! This is completely improper!"

Lilia was laughing so hard from the ceiling that he could barely breathe, thoroughly entertained by how the proud knight had been subdued in record time.
