Bake Club

I recommend gathering any stuff you consider "gravy" and throwing it in a bag to bring with you. You never know what may prove to be an unexpected source of inspiration!

I’m teaching a Zine Lab at the Davis Arts Center starting June 16; read more and sign up. Here’s one of my first zines, Rock Paper Scissors, circa 2001. My friends and I wrote movie and music reviews, poetry, and advice columns, and we sold copies at our high school for $1, which was technically against school policy. This issue includes interviews with Hey Mercedes, The Appleseed Cast, and Rainer Maria (one of my favorite bands back then!). Does the line on the back cover sound familiar?

Stuff I made in October.

Yesterday my parents watched the eclipse from their Missouri yard, right in middle of the path of totality, but I made a fig tart.

Instead of starting with my to-do list, I spent the morning playing with watercolor letters and listening to the rain. I'd forgotten how time slips away when you're completely present for every step of a process. Now I'm wondering: has anyone written a novel with a paintbrush?

Here's the last of the brioche dough baked up into a braided cinnamon loaf. We're now nearly out of eggs and butter, so mission accomplished.
