i just saw somewhere that the untamed is dubbed by other Chinese actors and the casts voices are not used? Tf?
It is (except for Nie Huaisang, which was was voiced by his actor Ji Li)! I also remember Wang Yibo mentioning it in an interview that he was offered to voice Lan Wangji himself, except he was afraid he won’t do a good enough job.
It’s apparently a common practice in Chinese Dramas, though. Many of the voice actors they used also were the voices for the same characters in other adaptation; Wei Wuxian’s voice actor in CQL was also his voice actor in the audio drama, while Lan Wangji’s voice actor voiced him in the donghua. (Here is a list!) A big shoutout to Bian Jiang (LWJ) and Lu Zhixing (WWX) for their amazing performances too! I was only mildly surprised though because on my first watch, i did immediately feel like as if some lip movement didn’t match the acting or was out of sync with the voice being spoken?
In any case, I’ve come to embrace it eventually, even though initially it felt weird. Love those behind-the scenes videos we see of them doing their lines in the show without the voice over!
For Xiao Zhan:
at the Demon-Slaughtering Cave
talking to Wen Ning
at a mountain in Yiling, saying “Lan Zhan” in Gusu, and some other moments
saying MMH! while under the silencing spell
drunk Wei Ying having a pity party 🥺
with a nagging Wen Qing (also ft. Meng Ziyi’s real voice)
For Wang Yibo (i think the voice he uses for LWJ is quite similar tbh):
those commercials they did for the show while in costume (ft. XZ too)
saying Wei Ying
WangXian at the library, ft. another stern “Wei Ying!” (geoblocked for some areas, use a VPN!
another “Wei Ying” during the Sunshot Campaign + XZ screaming when shijie d-words (thanks @withingerly!)
that convo in the rain at Qiongqi Path
If anyone has any more links, i'm adding it here :DDD
Edit: here’s a short twitter thread about it!
