Synopsis: Ernie Macmillan comes out to his older sister, Victoria Macmillan. Things… don’t go exactly as planned.

Author’s note: I wanted to write something for pride, so I wrote this! It’s been in my head for a bit and I wanted to share it. I wrote this in like 30 minutes in the back of the car. Also. PLEASE FINISH THE FIC BEFORE COMMENTING I AM BEGGING YOU!
For two hours, the Macmillan siblings wandered around Hogsmeade, popping into various shops and acting as if everything was completely normal. In reality, things were not.
Everything was far from normal.
Ernie had shown a lot of courage with being a member in Dumbledore’s Army, especially considering the risk it put on his role as one of Hufflepuff’s Prefects. Sneaking under Dolores Umbridge’s nose was no easy feat. Every morning, he woke up with a feeling of terror that it’ll be the day she found out and he would be stuck doing the revolting lines like the ones Harry had done. Every day he lived with that fear.
But what he needed to tell his older sister was much more terrifying than any of that.
Ernie had heard horror stories of parents reacting terribly to their children coming out to them. Some families kicked their kids out to the streets, and some muggles, according to Justin, would send their children to a “conversion camp.” That was not somewhere Ernie wanted to be.
In his opinion though, the worst thing a family could do was make him hide who he was. Ernie very much doubted his parents would send him to any muggle camp, but what if they didn’t accept him? What if coming out changed the way they saw him?
That’s why he wanted to tell Victoria first. As a “trial run” as Noelani had put it. If Vic reacted alright, then his parents should too.
“Ern? Did you hear me?”
Victoria’s voice drew him out of his thoughts. Ernie shook his head, looking at his sister.
“Sorry, I didn’t catch that.” mumbled Ernie. “What?”
Rather than answering his question and repeating what she said, Victoria set aside the two dresses she was holding onto the rack. She took his hands into her own velvety, perfectly manicured ones and softly squeezed.
“Ernie, you’ve been stressed this whole visit,” Victoria said, gently guiding him to sit down on the velvety bench next to the racks of clothes. “I want to help you if there’s something going on, but you need to tell me first.”
Merlin, how did she always know what to say at the right moment? No matter what was going on, she always knew how to make things better.
Why would this be any different?
Ernie took a deep breath through his nose and closed his eyes for a few moments. He simply breathed, trying to work up the courage to just say it. That’s the whole reason he asked her to meet him on this trip.
“Alright.” Ernie opened his eyes, letting out a shaky exhale. “I-I’ve recently come to realize… come to realize something about myself.” Merlin, why was he stuttering? “Something that you need to know, because it’s important.”
Ernie met Victoria’s gaze, his eyes meeting her brown ones of the same shade. “Victoria, I’m pan.”
Victoria’s hands tightened on Ernie’s for a brief moment. Her brow creased and her body tensed. Ernie would have thought the world was completely frozen over if it wasn’t for the three, slow blinks that came from her.
“Ernest.” Victoria said after a moment, her tone slightly cold. “I love you. Very much. But as your older sister, I feel as if I need to tell you when you are being daft.” Ernie’s breath hitched. “This is one of those moments,” Victoria finished. “You are not a pan.”
No. No, this couldn’t be happening.
All throughout their childhood, Victoria had always supported him. Sure, they fought and bickered as all siblings do, but at the end of the day, they were always there for each other. Hells, Ernie was one of the first people to comfort Victoria after Weasley left her.
He had always been there for her, but she wasn’t able to be there for him? She wasn’t able to accept that this is who he was? She just couldn’t fathom that he was attracted to people regardless of their gender? What was so hard for her to understand?
Merlin, he wanted to cry as her words repeated themselves inside his head.
“You are not a pan.”
Wait a minute.
“A pan?” Ernie asked, his voice shaky.
“Honestly, Ernest!” Victoria’s voice raised to something close to a shout, very different than her usual quiet tone. “You realize how absurd that statement is, right? You are not a cooking utensil!”
He wanted to cry again, but this time from relief and laughter instead of anger and sorrow. She misinterpreted him. She didn’t hate him.
“No, no, Victoria.” Ernie tilted her face towards her, smiling with a small tear in his eye. “I’m pansexual. I’m not a pan.”
The look of irritation melted away almost instantly and was replaced with one resembling regret. Victoria pulled Ernie close into a tight hug, one he returned with equal fervor.
She didn’t hate him.
“Thank you for telling and trusting me,” Victoria whispered. “I’m so, so sorry for my initial reaction.”
“It’s okay Vic,” assured Ernie. He ran his fingers through her hair, a habit he had since childhood. “I’m just glad you’re not angry.”
She pulled away and took his face into both of her hands. They felt so incredibly soft against his skin.
“I wouldn’t ever be angry at you,” Victoria assured. “Not about something you don’t have a choice with. This is who you are.”
Once again, she knew exactly what to say and how to say it.
Merlin, he had the best sister.
“I don’t know Vic.” Ernie smirked. “You seemed pretty angry about me being a pan.”
Victoria sighed as he laughed. “You’re never letting me live that down, are you?”
“Never.” Ernie kissed her on the cheek, having to bend down significantly to reach her height. “What kind of brother would I be if I did?”

Waking up in bed without Percy was something Victoria didn’t experience very often. Her fiancé normally enjoyed sleeping in on Sundays because it was a day neither of them had to work.
So why was he up before the sun rose?
With a small groan, Victoria rolled off of the side of her bed in a less than graceful fashion. Her feet began to warm the cool panels of the hardwood floors of their apartment as she made her way out of their bedroom.
The shuffling coming from the kitchen gave her a pretty good indication of where Percy was. She made her way through the halls, her movements almost silent.
Standing in the middle of the kitchen, boiling a pot of water with his wand, was the very disgruntled Percy Weasley. His red curls went in every direction (which wasn’t unusual, even when he did brush his hair) and made him look as if he was a shocked character in a muggle television series. His green housecoat, which had begun to fray at the edges, made him look like some sort of leprechaun.
Merlin, she loved him.
“Good morning, Perce.” Victoria crossed into the kitchen, a small jolt going through her spine as her bare feet made contact with the cold tile.
“Vic!” Percy nearly dropped his wand when she suddenly appeared. The pale skin of his face began to heat up slightly as Victoria pulled him down for a small, quick kiss. “Why are you up? It’s not even five yet.”
Victoria leaned against the counter, looking up at him. “I could ask the same thing to you.”
“Well, I asked first.”
“But you adore me.”
Victoria let out a giggle as he softly kissed her neck, pulling her to the edge of the counter. His fingers gently gripped onto her side, bringing her hips against his. She almost forgot about the question as he attacked her neck.
Almost.
“It’s a muggle tradition to take your father fishing for Father’s Day,” Percy murmured, drawing away from Victoria’s neck to pepper her jaw with kisses. “I figured dad might want to go… even if it is with me.”
There it was. The self deprecating he had experienced ever since they got back together at the Battle of Hogwarts. Yes, he had made mistakes, but he owned up to them. He made an effort to make things right again.
And she loved him for it. He was willing to do so much for everyone he cared about.
Victoria gently placed her hands on his face and pulled him away from her skin, making sure to make direct eye contact with him.
“Percy.” Victoria tightened her grip as he tried to pull away. “Your father loves spending time with you. You know this.”
“But—”
She placed a finger on his lips, silencing his protests before he could get farther. “No buts. You are a delight to be around.” Victoria gave a tiny smirk. “Most of the time.”
Percy chuckled and titled his head to the side, gently kissing the palm of one of her hands. “I seem to recall you enjoying yourself last night very much, Miss Macmillan.”
This time, it was Victoria’s time to blush. She lightly smacked him on the stomach, causing him to laugh.
“You’re a prick, Percy Weasley.”
“But I’m your prick.”
“Just make your coffee.”
An hour later, Victoria found herself sitting on the edge of a boat as Percy and Arthur cast their lines out into the lake they were in the middle of. She gently ran her finger across the water as she watched them, sending ripples across the reflection of her pink sundress.
Seeing the two men laugh warmed her heart in a way only they could. Percy deserved to be happy. They all did. They’d been through enough in the war.
“See, the trick, Percy, is to release after you cast the line out,” Arthur Weasley explained, his face almost entirely covered by the comically large tan fishing hat he wore on his balding head. “And it’ll go farther out.”
Percy, for his part, was nodding along and doing his best to follow, despite the fact that Arthur knew as much about fishing as he did. On occasion, he would sneak glances back at Victoria and give her a smile that made her want to kiss him senseless.
Who knew fishing would be so attractive?
Most of the morning was spent between Victoria reading and Arthur telling Percy some strange fact about muggles he had learned. It wasn’t until it was nearly noon when something happened.
Percy abruptly got to his feet, making the boat shake. “Dad, dad! Your bouey went under!”
Victoria set aside her book as the half-asleep Arthur yanked backwards on the pole, his hands shaking with either excitement or nervousness. The boat began to rock even more with his frantic movements, making Victoria feel a little nauseated.
“I think I got it!” Arthur shouted, his tone reminding Victoria of the time Ernie had caught a toad in the Manor’s backyard when he was five. “I think I—!”
Arthur yanked back once more.
The small boat they were on couldn’t handle the rocking anymore and tipped over right as a large catfish emerged from the surface on Arthur’s line. Victoria let out a scream as all three of them were flipped into the cool water. The situation wasn’t unlike the one she experienced during her first year at Hogwarts, though this time the boat was not on fire.
In seconds, she felt a set of arms wrap around her waist and help guide her to the surface. Victoria gasped, her blonde hair plastered to her face as she looked into Percy’s dark blue eyes. A lily pad had somehow gotten stuck in his dark red curls, making it look as if he had a tiny hat. Victoria snorted, wrapping her arms around his neck.
“Mr Weasley, I think we should try to avoid boats from now on,” said Victoria, grasping onto the lily pad and tossing it to the side. “Our track record is just ghastly.”
“I’d be inclined to agree, Miss Macmillan.”
They began to move in at the same time, almost as if they were on the same brain wavelength. Just as their lips were about to touch, a large splash of water sprayed both of them.
Arthur tredded next to them, holding the catfish on his now broken line. Despite being soaking wet, he had the largest grin on his face.

Ominis's scarf, given her tendency to never dress warmly enough for Scottish weather.
Letters. From family, friends, and the occasional (but lengthy) love letter from Ominis
Books. For her coursework, reading, and her journal where she keeps track of everything for her phD. She'll wake up in the dead of night with an idea and write it down in an incoherent mix of Hindi and English.
A small container of powdered lipstick.

A copy of the Statues of Wizarding Britain, and the constitution of the Surya Empire. She is a firm believer in knowing your rights.
Pens. She's a busy woman and doesn't have time for quill and ink.
The signet ring of the Surya Empire, enchanted to carry messages overseas.
And finally, a kukri, or a dagger. She has impeccable aim, but she did add in a few magic modifications to make sure it doesn't miss. Just in case.

A single gobstone from her “grandmothers” set. She carries it with her to always remember to be strong but also a little stinker sometimes.
Random herbs she gathered while out walking by the lake. She likes to take them to her dad Severus to help him keep his ingredients stocked.
A broken quill that is probably way too sharp for her to be keeping, but it’s there for emergencies. You know like when you have to do blood magic on the fly.
A small worry stone for her to use anytime Harry or Draco gets on a broom. It’s way better to use that than to pick at her fingers.
Dirty napkins from the Great Hall. She likes to take sweet breads with her to classes just in case she gets hungry during the day.
Crumbs from said sweet breads.
Owl feathers from the owlet she adopted from the Owlery.
“Gifts” from her baby owl including but not limited to snakes, worms, small frogs, and yes mice.
A copy of the rules of blood magic translated into parsle tongue so less people can read it.
A hair tie she stole from Lucius Malfoy.
I had a lot of fun coming up with these and I think they really speak volumes about Alyssa. I opted not to include things like parchment, class books, and other objects like that because I figured they were obvious.

“You have got to be kidding me,” Alyssa groaned, a weary sigh escaping her lips as she looked out the window of her home. Harry, Alyssa, and Draco had settled into a small cottage in the countryside. It was remote enough that muggles weren’t a problem, but it was also close enough for Harry and Draco to go to work. Alyssa was hardly ever in the actual office, since she was a Dark Wizard Capture specialist who spent most her time traveling to the places wizards thought they could hide, like treacherous caves or precarious mountainsides. It was exhausting, and had earned her a two-month long break since her last assignment led to a two-week stay at St. Mungo’s while they regrew part of her spine.
Alyssa made her way outside, savoring the comforting feeling of the warm sun on her skin. It was always too cold in their house for Alyssa, no matter what they did. So, being outside was perfect, except for this moment when the two children she was babysitting were recklessly riding brooms.
“Spruce! Willow! Get down here this instant!” Alyssa shouted, her voice laced with an hint of panic. The two looked at her, instantly halting their game of broom tag.
“But Mom lets us!” Seven-year-old Spruce called, a mischievous glint in his eye.
“Yeah!” Willow followed, before slapping her brother on the arm. “You’re it!” Willow cried, then zoomed off. Radiant Wood was a beautiful, perfect soul who chose Quidditch as her career. She was one of Alyssa’s first older classmate friends. They had met during school shopping, and Radiant had been kind enough to get her a book that the bookseller wouldn’t sell her. Discriminating against a 12-year-old girl always looked great on people. But back then, she didn’t blame them; it was a risk letting her get her hands on dark arts material. But Radiant just saw a girl who wanted to learn, and she selflessly gave her the book.
Spruce rocketed after Willow, laughing loudly as they both soared through the air. Alyssa made a mental note to hide Harry and Draco’s brooms next time the kids came to visit. Seeing Harry plummet towards the ground in Quidditch matches didn’t help her get over her deep-seated fear of brooms. They could be wildly unpredictable, and she was not about to be responsible for her friends’ children falling.
So, like any paranoid auror desperate for control, she used Accio to summon the brooms to her. Both kids looked utterly disappointed as their brooms turned tail and shot towards Alyssa. Once they were both firmly planted on the ground, Alyssa took the brooms inside and set them up with a game of Gobstones using her grandmother’s set. They didn’t look as amused, but once the first marble exploded in a giant fart, they were laughing and giggling again, trying to make the other the King/Queen of Farts.

Y’all ever just wonder if Newt and Thomas or Sonya and Harriet—or whatever queer TMR ship you like—were queer before the trials but WICKED erased the entire idea of homosexuality when they went in?
