The EU Qualification Directive (2011/95/EU) says that persecution due to sexual orientation and gender identity can be grounds for refugee status. We've already received LGBTQ+ refugees from Russia for years.

So, if policy proposals such as Project 2025 come to be in the USA as they're now presented, transgender individuals from the USA could seek asylum in the EU. And I underline, not by finding a job and getting a visa first but as an asylum seeker.

The asylum process requires applicants to demonstrate a well-founded fear of persecution in their home country. Each case is assessed individually, considering the specific circumstances and evidence presented, so if anything starts happening, document everything. The more, the better.

The LGBTQ+ right recognition varies between the member states so it's the safest, if things come to this, to look for the countries that have higher established protection for LGBTQ+ people (ie. Malta, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Germany, France). The local LGBTQ+ organisations often have legal resources and can consult as to what is required.

I know this is a horrifying situation and no one wants to leave their country and home and start new in a country where they possibly don't speak the language or have any support network, but if things come to this, the EU should be mandated to offer asylum.

My name is Ali. I am a queer refugee living in a refuge camp xxx in east africa.

Because of who I am, I face daily threats of violence, eviction, and discrimination, together with my companions.we do not have safe housing, reliable food, or access to basic healthcare. Landlords refuse to rent to us, and others and medical clinics turn me or us away when they find out I am queer,or we queers.

The money raised will go directly to safe housing for 3 to 6 months, food and clean water, medical care and treatment after attacks, and emergency relocation costs if my safety is at risk,plus others.

Any amount helps. Sharing this page also helps us together stay safe and get the support we need need.

She told me,

Ashley is a trans refugee from Uganda who has been living in refugee camps in Kenya and Sudan for the last six years. She is a human rights advocate for and representative of queer people in East Africa and has been tirelessly working to fundraise for their continued survival, fighting hunger, providing shelter, and procuring medicine, including some who are living with HIV.

So it's wonderful to hear the news that everything is now in order to finally be able to resettle to Canada. She will be joined by 33 other LGBTQIA+ members of her community.

Before they travel, they will need some necessities, however. Particularly they would like to raise $200 per person to buy a suitcase, boots, a jacket, and clothes that are appropriate for Canadian winters. They have created a new fundraiser in order to raise these funds, so they don't have to take money from their other fundraiser, which is still needed to continue supporting the queer community in the refugee camp.
