I rewatched Off Campus again, and Iāve finally made up my mind ā TV show Garrett does absolutely nothing for me. Yeah, I know itās an unpopular opinion, but book Garrett is better. Sure, heās a bit of a dumbass (in that charming, exactly-what-youād-expect-from-a-student-hockey-player way), but heās got personality, heās driven, and he wears his heart on his sleeve for Hannah. Book Garrett knows what he wants, heās passionate about hockey, heās got a solid life plan, heās a genuinely good friend, honest with everyone, and no one ever gives him crap about his dadās money or name. Show Garrett, though? They turned him into this boring, moody, depressed nepo baby who barely speaks and is just obsessively hung up on Hannah.
And please stop saying adaptations canāt happen without changing the plot. Like, why even turn a book into a show if you donāt like the characters or the main story points? Bridget Jonesās Diary got packed perfectly into one movie, Heated rivalry was adapted almost word for word with so much love, and the first Twilight was handled super carefully. But this? They just slapped together a random mashup of 2000s rom-coms.
