Does the bsd fandom not get Dazai's ability or do I not get it?

correct me if im wrong which i might be since I haven't finished reading all the lightnovels and manga's yet but as far as i can tell it seems like a lot of the bsd fandom don't seem to really understand Dazai's ability because I've seen lots of fanfics and videos about how Dazai's ability activates the second he touches someone but isn't that just simply wrong? I thought he had to touch someone for his ability to work but he still has to actually activate his ability sepreatly ykim? Please tell me if I'm wrong because I don't know and I'm currently losing my mind

Hi there! So yeah actually Dazai’s ability is always active- he can’t turn it off. That means that the second he makes contact with someone—and it doesnt even have to be skin contact, it can be hair or a piece of clothing or anything that’s “on” a person—it nullifies their ability. He has no control over it, which is part of his whole “feeling unhuman” thing. He himself is simply a walking ability nullifier, a “singularity”- a self contradicting ability (these are explained a bit more in depth in stormbringer and BEAST).

No ability can be used on him, as long as his heart is beating- that’s why Yosano’s ability cant work on him, and he has to actually go to the hospital when injured. The only time it CAN work on him is when he’s flatlined (seen in 55 minutes light novel). Its only like a 0.5 second window though, so it’s a dangerous risk to take.

Hope this helps! Also, be warned, some of the details in the official wiki seem to be incorrect (ie Dazai needing skin to skin contact- we know this is false from the light novels). But yeah based on the novels and manga this is how Dazai’s ability works!
