Any lack of media literacy/reading comprehension! I am a teacher, and an autistic with a special interest in analyzing media, so I know my shit when it comes to reading and media analysis. I donāt like it when people are stupid about the things I like. Youāre allowed to have bad takes, or disagree with me, and I love to be corrected or discuss different takes - but donāt be stupid about it! Use your brain and think about the source material. I am so so sorry this one took so long, art block was kicking my butt and for some reason I decided to do a FULL background for this one, so uhā¦ yeah. I did get kinda lazy near the end (I was reaching the two week late mark and just wanted to be doneee) so if you see any obvious mistakes.. no u donāt. There are no mistakes in ba-sing se.
Still, I really loved getting to come up with all the details, especially the cards, gifts, etcā¦ even the mini photo strips lol. Drawing Dazai himself took half as long as the whole rest of the drawing.. ugh.
I am quite proud of the rendering and lighting on this one; I played around with it a lot and tried w lot of new things. Just for funsies, hereās the sketch and flats (there was another rough sketch layer in between but I deleted it rip)

Iām glad u love my rendering! Iāve been working a lot on it lately, I realized earlier this year that I absolutely DESPISED my past rendering style and resolved to learn to render how I like. Its taken a lot of studying others artwork and practicing various techniques, but I think itās going well! Iām not near the level Iād like but weāre getting there.
Iām so so incredibly glad you like all the background! You rly noticed all the tiny detailsā¦ I was wondering if anyone would see the crumpled note from Ango- its meant to look like Dazai initially crumpled it, but eventually chose to read it anyways. Its tossed to the side and out of frame, but still in the ālightā.
Meanwhile, Chuuyaās flowers are half in the light, with the one Dazaiās holding being at the X of the window frame.. I played around a lot with symbolism here!
As for why Fukuzawaās note is in the darkā¦ perhaps he has yet to accept himself as a member of the agency? Hmmā¦ or maybe i just accidentally made the window too small whoās to sayš
