Patrick Bear by Boyd Glass

Boyd Glass (1978-2013) was a family owned and operated glass studio based in Cambridge, Ohio. The family patriarch had been in the glass business since the turn of the century (1901) working for other companies and passed on knowledge through the generations of his family until they were able to establish their own studio. Sadly now it has completely shuttered (2013-2014) but their collectibles remain in circulation.

Mixing glass particles, melting, pouring into molds they designed with no automated machinery, many glass figurines were also hand painted by family members and signed. Depending on the year their figurines were produced there is a corresponding Logo stamped on the back. From my understanding too the majority of their figurines are named after family members and/or other people who worked in the studio.

I only recently became aware of this glass company and the Patrick Bear is my favourite of their designs. Looks familiar?
