Little sneak peak to a fic I'm working on. This was inspired by the song "The Cure" by Olivia Rodrigo. It's kinda bad because I haven't edited it. I realllllly need to edit but I dread editing. Also this is Steddie despite Nancy and Steve being in this part.

“You’re bullshit,” a very drunk Nancy exclaimed. Her sharp features turning droopy as the alcohol from earlier seemed to blur her mind.
Steve’s eyebrows furrowed, his eyes glazed over with tears.
“W-what…?”He barely got out, mouth slightly agape as his eyes stared helplessly into Nancy’s glassy ones
“You’re… you’re pretending like, like everything's okay, like it's great…” She started, little hiccups her lips as she spoke “Like we’re in love and we’re partying..”
The phrase repeated in Steve’s mind as he reenacted the scenario in his head, balling his hands into ghost-white fists, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill out.
The concept of forever love deluded his mind for so long that the thought of it all being over was so surreal.
It healed him in a way, an antidote to his pain and agony. A chance at something other than just “king Steve”.
Nancy's sharp -beautiful- features infected his mind as the conversation kept repeating, making his heart burn and ache.
It's not like he can stop it, it's like his brain is wired to hurt him, forcing him to think about how Nancy doesn’t love him over and over and over again.
The love he had for her was so strong and the thought of that same love never being returned made his whole body shake.
The mattress shook slightly as Steve’s fist met his tear-soaked mattress. The churning and heaviness of his heart and his stomach made him feel sick.
Why would Nancy love him…?
Why was he so stupid to ever think that?
Love was the string that held him up, controlling him, restricting him.
The amount he had to give just to receive nothing back was exhausting, it's like he didn’t even know how to love.
The dopamine of the occasional praise and love he got back from Nance felt like a drug, he felt so hopeless without it, he needed more.
Despite him being a wreck, needing love just to get by, he can never have that.
But it doesn’t matter how her love feels anymore, it truly will never be the cure to how pathetic he is.
