[Kris telling a story about how they survived being possessed and being forced to manipulate people and act against their desires in a timeloop for a year] it was crazy
[Susie who once got a text from them where they accidentally called the shelter the sjelter] did you go to the sjelter there?
For all that the 1800s etiquette guides are--obviously--derangedly sexist from a modern perspective? They're also mindblowing in how casually they will assert things that MODERN DAY CONSERVATIVES would scream and cry and shit their pants about.
"People back then always married young it's natural!!!" Every single 1800s guide I've ever met casually mentions that, of course, you really shouldn't get married before you're at least 20, and waiting until 25 is usually better.
Or, like. Okay here's a long segment:
Just firmly going "it is crazy sexist to blame The Wife for overspending when thirty seconds of asking questions will immediately establish that her husband was outright lying to her about how much money they had. Talk to your wife like a normal person."
Or--okay, here. A section on being honest and not writing love letters in secret, because that's usually a good sign that there's something untoward going on....
....except that he then immediately acknowledges that sometimes, the reason you're hiding this from your parents is that your parents suck. That there are parents who frankly have not earned the right to approve or disapprove of your partner.
(I realize the phrasing there sounds a lot less strong than my summary, but--trust me on this. When you're familiar with the narrative voice of these kinds of books, this passage is downright radical. The mere acknowledgement that if you treat your kids badly, it's your own damn fault when they don't talk to you? I've genuinely never seen that before in this genre. Don't freak out over "properly trained", either. It's just a linguistic shift--at the time, "training" was used the way we would say "raising" a child today. )
The House Investigation
Henry, your not helping
Something Wicked got that other attempts to copy its formula didn't is that there really is a lot of shady elements regarding the Wizard that just get glossed over in the original Oz books. I once read an interview where Gregory Maguire stated that Dorothy should have doubled down and told the Wizard "No, listen to me: you are a bad man" instead of just accepting his "I'm a good man, just a terrible wizard" statement. Even if the original novel the musical is based on dials up how vile he is, it's clear that there is a lot of overlooked details about him in the Baum books. The problem is that everyone kind of just goes "Who else but the Wizard?" in later installments and the Wizard just gets to go "Oh gee, guess I kind of was a stinker" despite the fact that he literally hid Ozma away so there would be no one to contest his claim to the Emrald City's throne (though he lucked out thanks to retcons getting rid of his involvement).
Contrast this with, say, Disney's Maleficent (which was said by one of the producers to be Disney's attempt to cash in on Wicked's success), where King Stefan is basically an entirely different character in backstory and motivation. Or even something like Once Upon a Time which really runs with the idea that all the villains in the setting have sympathetic motivations (to the point that it's a twist when some of them are revealed to just be awful people). These latter works have to work overtime to add in details that weren't in the source material; personally, I enjoyed both works, but it isn't quite the same as taking what's already in the original text and expanding on it, if you get what I mean. (Meanwhile, Oz the Great and Powerful just glosses over all the Wizard's misdeeds by reinterpreting him as a hero and was also admitted by the screenwriter to be an attempt to make a Wizard of Oz origin story to rival Wicked. You tried, man.)
Iβd kill to be a fly on the wall and watch Nikkiβs interview with the cops after she calls them and gets released from the hospital.
Nikki wouldβve had to be inside and call the cops but way more likely she wouldβve ran outside to the first person she called or to a place she knows to beg them to call. The police show up and find a woman covered in blood, and wounds (if they canβt see the glass in her head wound the hospital will inform them later), wearing another womanβs hair, and has strange drawings scribbled all over her as sheβs almost incoherent.
They GO to Bearβs house and thereβs a man at the front door whoβs been executed, and then thereβs a body of Sarah enshrined, naked, and has her face beaten beyond recognition with no wounds on her body that arenβt post mortem. A glance at the body shows tattoos that match the living victims scribbles and dna collection is gonna show the hair on her is from the body too later on. Then you have a body which clearly ODed with zero wounds on him, gunpowder on his hands, and was pushed off the couch from someoneβs lap before rigor mortis set in.
The later investigation will show that Nikki and Ian are exes before Nikki suddenly and inexplicably became fixated and attached to Bear. Sheβs telling everyone sheβs relapsing, Bear showed no signs of caring about her relapse during, and they all recount her suddenly freaking out and trying to kill herself the last time they all met. Some will even confirm the OD victim had no reaction as it happened besides frowning, and didnβt even look at her. Ianβs phone will confirm text messages from Sarah long after she died, but theyβre not gonna be able to tell whether theyβre from Nikki or Bear. Theyβll also be able to search Sarahβs car and find the acceptance letter from Luther if not in the house if Bear took it with him. They find gunpowder on Nikki AND Bearβs fingers (Bear man handled that damn gun during his suicide pondering). Even if they drug test Nikki to see if she was drugged if she took anything in the last 6 months (unlikely since the whole group stopped doing drugs for at least a year by Sarahβs comment, and she relapses because her friend group is falling apart and she doesnβt think sheβs getting into her art college). If that shit DID come back positive it would only help Nikki? I donβt think whether it comes back positive or not matters for the evidence.
The story that paints is Bear wanted Sarah, forced Nikki to play the girlfriend role for her, then when he found out Sarah was going to be leaving to art school he snapped and killed her. He then made Nikki dress up as Sarah and wear her hair and clothes out of regret. Ian came in to confront Bear (about Sarahβs whereabouts or as to where Nikki is and why heβs still keeping her drugged without helping her recover at all), and Bear executed Nikkiβs ex to keep her. You canβt tell whether Bear or Ian died first so you have to assume Bear killed Ian then killed himself out of guilt for everything and loss of his love. (Which is also a really good point to the romance trope of βI was here the whole timeβ).
Now Nikkiβs INTERVIEW and account of what happened? Thatβs gonna be the insane shit. I said in the last what happens after post that Nikkiβs going to match all of the baseline descriptions and patterns of a hostage victim. We see touch screens in the film! Criminology started considering the psychology and patterns of killers and victims decades ago! Sarahs body alone and the nature of her being found stripped naked and presented while her cause of death is so insanely violent puts a crime of passion and fixation on the absolute top of the list for whatβs going on. Too many people know Nikki and what sheβs like to point to her being capable of doing I tout of jealousy for a rival love interest as much as Bear being the socially awkward guy who doesnβt have deep friendships snapping and killing the girl who he talks with the most.
Nikkiβs account of things is that she asked her friend Bear who she knew was crushing on her to drive her home. She got in her house then everything went pitch black, she woke up outside and wasnβt acting like herself as she talked to Bear. She blacks out again. She wakes up naked and in BED with Bear and making out. Sheβs conscious during sex and canβt ask him to stop or do anything against him. At this point sheβs mostly blacked out, she regains control at night and begs for Bear to kill her. She HEARS him walk away. Now every time she regains control she tries to kill herself because itβs so miserable to live terrified and flashing in and out of consciousness. Then suddenly she wakes up surrounded by her dead friends with a gun in her hand pointed to her head, and she finally feels full clarity alongside the fear of whatβs going on

Deltarune Chapter 5 Reading Comprehension Quiz
1) Why do you think that Flowery called Ralsei "princess" after suggesting that they did not need to follow the prophecy? What part of the prophecy do you think he was referring to?
1a) Why would the author specifically choose to make Ralsei's drink of choice blue and pink?
1b) Do you think the status screen using "their" instead of "his" after this scene is relevant?
1c) The secret boss of the chapter is Mad Mew Mew, a character from Undertale who is a trans woman. Do you think her placement in this chapter specifically is important?
2) Despite their romantic relationship, Noelle and Susie seem intent on keeping Kris with them during the festival, and mention things being "easier" with them around. Why do you think that is?
2a) When telling Kris to say "Noelle and you will work out", Susie says they mumbled the answer. What could cause them to respond this way?
2b) Even in the weird route, where Noelle has become obsessed with Kris because they "changed," she still is clearly shown to have feelings for Susie. Do you think this has relevance to the main route?
2c) Why do you think the author chose to include multiple examples of a "throuple" in previous chapters and this chapter?

something I really enjoy is that I've now seen like 4 or 5 variations of roughly this same video, all slightly different in their angles and timing while obviously being the exact same bunny and room, implying that this is a consistent and frequent behavior for this bunny instead of just a funny thing it did once that got caught on camera. I wish I could have as much raw unfiltered enthusiasm for anything as this little rabbit has for its dinnertime
I have a bunny who really likes food, and this is something I could see him doing lol
the amazing digital circus is a show about empathy and what it does to you if you go too long without a support system so the show starts with sympathizing with Pomni (the most empathetic person, easy), ep2 is empathizing with an NPC in a game (no flaws), ep3 is empathizing with a man who has dementia, ep4 is empathizing with someone who annoys you when they're unmasking, ep5 is asking you to empathize with a rich white woman and so on....
so it all works up to the empathy boss - a bush era edgelord millenial trans girl who thinks she's Max from Sam & Max and is inherently unworthy of love
and some people failed the empathy test
Exactly the show is not asking you to forgive her the show is asking to empathize with her those are different things
