I know everyone is talking about the snapw hire and i am gonna weigh in a bit. Lwts start with three warnings, i dont give a fuck about his race and my issues with casting has jothing to do with the actor. Leave him alone. And I will not be watching the show either way bc i dont supposed jkr and the idea of her getting richer sickens me
My biggest issue is that heβs the only person kf color weβve seen casted in a main role. And it feels like a diversity hire. I have no problems with diversity it was what i was most excited for in the new series. HOWEVER this was not the character to diversify.
It adds a new layer to the trauma heβs had thaf I think actually takes away from his complexity. Used to be that he was bullied as a child for being a wizard and weird. Now its cuz hes black. He used to not be picked by his best friend because she found someone better. Not its cuz hes black. It used to be that he was bullied at hogwarts bc james was a dick and snape was a racist asshole. Now its cuz hes black.
Also EVERY SINGLE YEAR harry suspects him of being the villain behind that years events. Now this eleven year old is suspecting the only black adult near him to be the bad guy. That feels racist.
It feels like it counteracts the idea of diversifying tye cast.
And maybe the filmmakers will choose to ignore his race for his backstory, but i doubt they will.
It would be way less of a topic if we had ONE other professor be someone of color. I mean we have sprout, mcgonagall, or flitwick.
Also hes constantly described as ugly and gross and greasy. That man takes 3 showers a day and it shows. He looks like he smells good
So yea. Theres my 2 cents
