your ex is a narcissist? so he must struggle with close friendships, right--oh, he's respectful to his male friends? he only acts this way around women? that's crazy, they should invent a word for such a phenomenon
in the end any ideal future where the status of the Immigrant continues to exist but people are Cooler about it is a proof of how invisible the violence on the periphery is
its like that super cool queer positive utopia where homophobia doesnt exist but the nuclear family and private property & title given through kin exist
except the author doesnt even know what homophobia is. only that sometimes people are mean to the gays
Analyzing the politics of a work that's meant to be apolitical is actually a really interesting exercise because it asks you to critically examine what the creator considers to be "political" in the first place. Which ideas are just How Things Are, and which ones are Political, and how is that influenced by the creator's beliefs?
Usually this just ends up with you looking like a moron btw
Angrily lashing out at the suggestion that it's possible to do basic media analysis was foundational to the ragebait ecosystem of the 2010s, from which we got basically the entire culture of modern far right politics, btw.
I genuinely believe myself and others are being so sincere and literal when we say TOUCH GRASS
I went outside and got an education, that's where I learned that you can obtain knowledge and insight through analytical methods, then noticed that some people who sit on the internet yelling at strangers get really mad about that constantly.
Don’t make me point to the Omar Sakar poem
every major structural social problem right now is basically "we don't have enough skilled workers on the ground" and the reason is always "well we've been intentionally underpaying and understaffng them for decades to increase corporate profits" and somehow the news always just mentions the "shortage" without digging into the cause
air travel is a mess? shortage of air traffic controllers - for some mysterious reason
logistics a mess? shortage of truck drivers - for some mysterious reason
public transit can't meet demand? shortage of bus drivers - for some mysterious reason
We even mysteriously have shortages of doctors, nurses, teachers... FOR SOME MYSTERIOUS REASON
FUCKING PAY PEOPLE AND HIRE ENOUGH STAFF

Helen Frankenthaler.
daydreaming of quitting my job like everytime i got a long vacation and have to work for the first time in 2-3 weeks...
as someone who was a trans teen very recently, i just can’t help but sneer at all of these “concerned parents” spreading the social contagion narrative and think, like, where were you? at that age i was a therapist, a suicide hotline, a friend, a confidant, and a mentor to other trans kids, and they did the same for me. trans community saved my life at that age. and you’re gonna stand around and what, bitch about it? in my experience, other trans kids are trying to keep your kid alive in spite of you. and you think that community safety net is the problem? lmao okay. go fuck yourself.
to any trans kid/teen reading this, listen to me. i am holding your hand rn. it’s not your fault that your parents want a doll instead of a child. i am telling you from experience that it gets better. one day your life will be yours and you’ll be glad you survived long enough to get to that point. just hang in there. it’s gonna be okay. i promise.
Something on my mind is how there was a fucking year and a half of post-9/11 consent-manufacturing before we invaded Iraq. With Venezuela, there hasn't been any of that. There have been some paranoid jabs on campaign trails, a little bit of half-hearted news media shit, internet rumors, all that, there's been blowing up random civilians on the water. But there hasn't been anywhere near the same degree of justification that was needed for past illegal wars. They're just doing it. There's no illusion of consent. They don't feel that's necessary. They don't care about the consequences. This is a nightmare.
Realize that the USA bombing Venezuela is not the result of pointless evil or the desire to simply cause chaos and destruction. These attacks are planned to the letter, that is the result of being under the boot of an imperial empire that seeks to exploit the natural resources of another country; more specifically Latin America. As much as people say that Trump is a uniquely bumbling idiot, he’s operating just as those before him have in the past (see Obama and his drone strikes on the Middle East).
The USA is functioning as intended. This isn’t the first time the government has attempted to or has staged a coup in order to gain control.

Hello, guys. I know I haven't been active in this blog for some time, but I guess I just needed to write about this and I'm not sure where else to do it.
As some of you know, I live in Venezuela. For the last hour or so bombs have been falling over my city, Caracas. Some people say it's a coup d'etat, others that it's the US military. We are not yet sure what is happening.
A bomb fell over La Carlota, a military air base a few blocks away from my apartment. We can still see the smoke through the window. As I understand, bombs have also fallen on "strategic places" like Fuerte Tiuna and Miraflores.
The neighbors are speaking about leaving but me and my parents haven't decided what we are going to do. We don't really have a place to go. I'll keep you updated if I can. Thank you for taking the time to read.
Notice there hasnt been a wednesday this year
something incredibly powerful is how healing these encampments as community spaces have been for so many. I’ve seen undergraduates get tutoring from graduate students, students who are food insecure receive three meals a day, students share their art and exchange gifts…. Seeing students put aside these typical structures of power aside has been incredibly fulfilling to watch. So many different people from many different backgrounds have learned from each other and exchanged their resources. I wish student protestors all over the US the very best. There is so much selflessness and passion in these spaces
at this point I've seen this being mentioned quite a few times.
That the reason Israel gets to do everything they do is because they're a jewish state so they can always claim the victim card.
And I feel like that is misleading. Like yes the Israeli state does use that excuse, but in the end it's really just propaganda.
The real reason Israel gets to do what it does is that it's beneficial to the west. Western countries have done all the same things.
It's not a product of Israel being given too long a leash. Because I can pretty much guarantee that this was the intent from the start.
It doesn't feed into some grand conspiracy that jews control the world. Because, well. They don't, at all.
The second Israel isn't beneficial to the west, and especially the US, then Israel is done for.
Like don't let yourself get hooked into anti-semetic talking points just because you hate Israel and want the palestinian people to live. Keep to the facts remember your love for people, and remember that many many jews across the globe and even in Israel oppose the regime. Remember that the world doesn't suddenly love jews. It's just been given an excuse to openly annihilate another group they hate, which in this case are the arabs.
We all have to be motivated by love rather than hate, it's the only way this whole situation can be anything but pure loss. It's the only way we can keep any humanity

people are like “everyone has different levels of tolerance for risk ❤️ no one can tell you to take on a risk that you don’t want to take on” and while I generally think that’s true, I also do think there are risks slight enough and stakes high enough that it is in fact morally encumbent on you to take them
I’ve been wanting to talk about perception of “risk” in general and the expectation of safety and comfort (including social comfort / “civility”) more broadly after the failure of Stop the Boat Washington brought these things to the fore—
—The fact that there were people saying things like “getting arrested while interfering with the military would have carried federal charges” as though that automatically meant that it was literally impossible to interfere and so people might as well not be told that the military was loading the ship (rather than “people should be told about what is going on and also informed of potential risks to interfering”)—
—I also thought of a panel on actions to take to combat the genocide in Palestine wherein not one but several white-collar professionals said things such as “we can’t forget that it’s a privilege to be able to protest, peoplr who are early career can’t speak out,” as though taking the risk of losing your career is one which it is literally impossible to take on—
Do you understand what this is? Do you understand what we’re in? Do you understand how the world works? Do you have any idea what’s going on? Do you have any idea of the conditions people all around the world are living in? Do you care that these atrocities prop up your sense of “safety” and “comfort”? Do you have any heart or brains or guts in you at all?
Communists and revolutionaries and activists and freedom fighters the world over accept the risk of prison and torture and death. Colonised people the world over have no choice but to face the reality and possibility of prison and torture and death.
No one is saying that you have to be a revolutionary! You don’t! But to pretend that it is impossible to be one, that there is no such thing, that everyone lives in the same world as you do where comfort and safety (and, what’s more, the ‘feeling’ of comfort and safety) are guaranteed and any action that jeopardises them is inconceivable, is just cowardice of the worst and most dishonest sort
