I’d say there are two steps when asking this:

1. Is the joke making fun of people having the disability?

and 2. Is it made by someone with that disability?

Why do people have such an issue with non-binary terminology? We have our own words USE THEM!!!

people associate wheelchairs with old people, people associate canes with old people, people associate back problems with old people. i can go on.

old doesnt equal disabled, young doesnt equal able-bodied. this is just stereotypes.

I totally understand, and it is ableism and ageism.

A lot of my friends who are cane users have gotten awkward questioning, as people associate canes with older people.
