y'know one of the things that bugs me about magical thinking and treating characters as anything other than dolls is that i genuinely think one of the most interesting and fun things about writing is the question of "how do i simulate a person?"
but more than that, i think it's "how do i accurately simulate this person". "how do I accurately simulate Jenny Short given circumstances x, y, and z?" "how does that simulation differ from simulating Nina King in the exact same circumstance?" "how do i want them to feel and why?"
and acting like they're not dolls i'm playing with takes all the fun out of it.

not using AI genuinely feels like the rest of the world is experiencing some kind of mass amnesia. if someone says they never use it, the immediate response is that can't be true because "everyone" uses it to write their emails or answer their questions. saw a comment suggesting that not using chatgpt to write an essay is "like the 90s". girl I graduated in 2021 and we weren't doing that! how is it that everyone has suddenly forgotten that they were entirely capable of doing these things all by themselves for their entire lives up until the past few years!! am I going crazy!!!
Kind of crappy doodles of Tragedy, Comedy, and Mystery so I could at least make an Art Fight profile. We'll see if I do more.

i love writing out numbers and then putting them in parentheses like "one (1)" even when i dont need to i think its funny
I still think redesign/rewrite videos are creatively dishonest and rub me the wrong way
The thing that Kikuo and Stomach Book have in common, to me, is the sensation that everything is a little off-kilter, a bit wrong, a sort of artificial feeling, but also organic in a way.
They both give off the sensation of walking through a wood made of cardboard trees but then you snap a branch off the cardboard and the tree starts bleeding. The lighting clearly isn't natural but you don't notice because you're too in it, the landscape is tilted, you can't see quite far enough.
as a person who likes fantasy romance (admittedly mostly manga and manwha as opposed to novels) i loathe the phrase "romantasy"
it sounds really gross and annoying and stupid and weird
screenshot because I do not want to start shit, but
in most cases they clearly aren't actually different species
in dungeons and dragons and pathfinder all of these groups can interbreed and produce fertile offspring. if they are genetically similar enough to produce fertile offspring they are the same species
ryoko kui with dungeon meshi is the only writer around who actually had the guts to make all of these creatures literally different species. the fact that half elves are sterile because tall men and elves are different species is an important plot point.

went to barnes and noble the other day and actually got a look at physical copies of Aurora, and I was right that the author commentary is distractingly obnoxious. i wish there was a way to get a print copy without it.
one of the important things about dvd directors commentary is that it's optional. i can even ignore the commentary text on the website easily. you can't do that with a physical book.
Iβm curious what exactly you mean by that. By author commentaries, do you mean the pages with extra notes/sketches/content at the end of the chapters? What exactly do you find distractingly obnoxious about extra content at the end of a chapter, and how is that any harder to ignore than the alt-text and page notes on the website, genuine question?
The stuff at the back is literally fine. I said that in the tags.
THIS
is an unclose-able pop-up that completely kills the tension of the scene. I can't ignore it because it's literally covering the art. It's intruding on me actually being able to read the comic by covering the art. It's intruding on the pacing. It's intruding on the tension of the scene by distracting from what's actually happening.
The tension of this scene requires that I, the audience, be able to see and process the fact that I know what's coming and the characters don't. This requires that I see the image without anything interrupting Alinua's dialogue or trying to break me out of looking at the sentinel's hand.
Also one of the appeals of buying a physical copy would be getting a closer look at the art. I can't do that if it's covered by pop-ups.
My problem is the pop-ups wreck the diegesis of the comic and kill the tension by making it impossible for me to actually look at and concentrate on what's going on. It's easy to ignore the author's comments (safely under the comic page in its own little window) and alt-text (only viewable if one intentionally hovers over a page, which i can just not do) on the site because they're separate from the page itself and I can therefore ignore them. I cannot ignore a pop-up ad covering the art.
