this is difficult for me to answer because if I don't like a book, I mainly just DNF it and move on with my life, forgetting it entirely. thinking a little longer, the books I finished in the last couple of years that left a sour taste in my mouth were R. F. Kuang's Babel (I was having fun with the magic system until the last third when it gets nauseatingly didactic) and Kaliane Bradley's The Ministry of Time (my first experience of ruining a novel for myself by suddenly realizing halfway thru that it was lightly edited y/n self-insert fanfic).
