I think it would be so cute if on their first date, Buck gets to the restaurant sooner than Eddie and as he is sitting there, waiting for him, it suddenly hits him that holy shit I’m about to have a date with Eddie! My best friend, Eddie!
Eddie gets there not five minutes later, apologizing because the sitter came by late. But five minutes was enough for Buck to overthink everything and panic.
So the whole date, Eddie talks about their usual conversation, the team, Christopher’s new favorite game, discovering a new way to get Theo to eat his vegetables, etc. because to Eddie, nothing’s changed, really. They’re the same people, doing the same thing. They just decided to kiss sometimes too.
But for Buck it’s a huge difference. Because what if it doesn’t work? What if he screws up? What if they break up? Worse! What if they broke up and can’t even be in the same room together anymore? He has to prevent that, right?
So halfway through the date, he pulls out his phone, keeping it under the table, out of Eddie’s sight, and starts googling tips on how to act on the first date. He starts asking questions that sound way too basic for them. But at first, they’re casual enough that Eddie won’t suspect a thing. If you could eat one type of food for the rest of your life what would it be? Or would you switch lives with a celebrity for one day and if yes, who?
Things that Eddie has gotten used to by now. But it’s Buck’s fifth question that makes him arch a brow.
Do you have any fun hobbies or passions you like to spend your weekends on?
Buck immediately regrets it because of course he already knew the answer. He knew Eddie’s weekend schedule by heart. He was part of that schedule for god’s sake!
Eddie finally catches the phone on Buck’s lap and lets out a huff of laugh. More with affection than in mockery. He takes the phone from Buck and place it on the table, taking Buck’s hand instead, and placing a soft kiss on his knuckles.
He assures Buck that he doesn’t need to find an interesting topic to talk about because he’s already got so many interesting fun facts and stories.
Because they’re way past getting-to-know-you stage.
So Buck finally relaxes, locks his phone and spends the rest of the night listening to Eddie. They talk about the most boring things and at the end of the night, Buck realizes this is exactly how all their dates should go.
