Just spent a day talking to people and answering questions about myself (whyyy do I hate it so much?) and listening to noise and touching people and standing around uncomfortably. I want to cry. I should want to cry because it was my grandfatherâs funeral. Instead I want to cry because of all the aforementioned reasons.
I swept and swiffered my room! The slightly more involved version where I moved rugs and chairs around, and then also vacuumed the rugs. I got sweaty, had a slight headache, and my legs are inexplicably sore now, but I got it done! It still knocks me out of doing much the rest of the evening, but a number of months ago I couldnât complete even a cursory sweep of a portion of my room. Progress!
I used to hear the advice âyou need to learn how to say ânoâ to peopleâ and I thought I understood what it meant. I thought people were saying that you need to learn that itâs okay to say ânoâ to things, and let yourself say ânoâ and overcome the fear and whatever other barrier has been keeping you from doing so. And it does mean that; I wasnât wrong.
But the advice was not just that you need to learn to say no, but that you need to learn HOW to say no. And thereâs a little more that goes into that beyond just giving yourself permission to say no, or overcoming fear. Thereâs also the ever complicating calculations that go into deciding when to say no, or maybe, or yes. And there are different ways to say ânoâ as well, and you need to learn how to best communicate your âno.â
Thereâs the factor of timing, as well, that Iâve found is pretty important. Iâve learned that telling someone ânoâ early on (or at least telling them âmaybe but likely noâ) is so much better for everyone than giving a âyesâ that turns into a ânoâ at the last minute. You may feel bad about letting them down, and want to gamble on the possibility that you might be able to make it and avoid that. But itâs better for them to know as soon as possible so they can plan accordingly. Whatâs most inconvenient is to drop out last minute and leave people unexpectedly in the lurch, or needing to alter plans last minute. Best for the solid ânoâ up front.
This got more rambley than intended. Thesis statement: itâs better give a ânoâ up front than to give a âyesâ that turns into a ânoâ last minute. Also, there is more to saying ânoâ than just the willingness to say it; it is a skill to be developed and exercised.
Bought some pretty fake nails the other day, been waiting to use them on a special occasion. đ đ đťUnfortunately, the next special occasion I attend will probably be my grandfatherâs funeral. đĽđŤ¤ not very festive.

My favorite bit recently is toâpreferably while no one is paying me much attentionâpick up an object and balance it on my head. Then just leave it there, behave as normal, wait for someone to notice. When they do, very casually and with a straight face, ask âdo you like my hat?â My family has grown equal parts tired and fond of this joke. My mom doesnât even wait for me to ask anymore, just says âI like your hat.â
As with most bits, it is generally more fun for the person running the bit than for the people on the receiving end. It hasâŚnot the greatest success with most adults. It absolutely kills with kids up to the age of like, seven or eight, though.
About ten years ago I decided that the next step I needed to take in my life was to accept and explore what it meant to be a failure and to have failed. This infuriated almost everybody in my life and clearly terrified a lot of people. People do not want you to accept failure. They dont want you to like... Sit with and think about it and pick it up and turn it arpund in your hands and really examine it. They want you to keep throwing yourself against the impossible walls until your body explodes! They do not want you to say "alright then, I've failed. What does that mean for me? Im still here. What does the life of someone who has failed look like?"
This makes people very angry and panicky.
My mental health improved in ways it had not in the previous DECADE once I stopped. And. Sat. With failure. And thought about what my failure ... Was. And looked at the structures that produced it and examined them critically.
It is so taboo to fail and admit it openly and talk about it. It is so taboo to talk about or think about failure in an accepting way rather than hiding it shamefully until you experience a degree of success in some area which allows you to present the past failure as "a stepping stone" to your current situation. Fuck that. We are put in positions of guaranteed failure by society every day and then punished and shamed for it. Lets fucking talk about failure
When I was a kid, my favorite bit to do was to go âcâmere, I have a secret, Iâm gonna tell you a secretâ and wave the person closer so I could whisper the âsecretâ in their ear. Then Iâd whisper âhi!â and pull back and be all âbut shhh, donât tell anybody! Itâs a secret!â And usually that would be the end of the bit, but sometimes they would say hi to someone briefly after and I would like, smack them on the arm a little and be like âthat was a secret!! I told you not to tell anyone!â And anyway, no one ever enjoyed this bit as much as I did, even if a couple of friends would sometimes join in.
Changed my bed sheets đŞ right after cooking dinner and feeding the pets. Trying not to sweat on my fresh bedding
love saying shit like "i think" and "maybe" and "a bit" #doubters #mypreface

Does anyone else struggle (more) to eat hot food when nauseated? Like, itâs hard to get myself to eat at all, nothing really sounds (or looks, or smells) appetizing. But itâs easier to make myself eat something cold than it is with something warm.
Cleaned floors and now I feel siiiiick booooo. Horizontal time, now
Met my brotherâs roommate, who is currently mostly living with his boyfriend, and is in the process of slowly moving his stuff over there. Important note, before they became friends and roommates, this guy and my brother briefly dated. The roommate also brought his boyfriend, and yâall. He looked SO much like my brother. At one point, they both bent down at the same time to pet my brotherâs dog, facing each other, and it was like looking at a fun-house mirror. Someone has a TYPE.
the rumors are true: i dont feel very good
saying âyou are a burden on societyâ is just such a weird framing of priorities Itâs like saying âwow, think how much better gas mileage your car would get if you werenât sitting in itâ or âthink how dry that umbrella would be if you werenât holding it in between you and the rainstormâ. the things we create? theyâre for us. they are meant to carry us. they are meant to protect us. we are meant to hold them up to keep us dry.Â
why do we even have a society if not to take care of each other?
Yeah, like I think itâs so odd when people say someone is âtaking advantage ofâ something (the system, social programs, etc.) becauseâŚthose things were created to give people an advantage. To be taken advantage of. If no one is taking advantage of them, then whatâs the point of them. (And I know this sort of phrase is used actually when they think the people donât NEED those programs, accommodations, etc. That theyâre âtaking advantage ofâ things that arenât for THEIR advantage. But thatâs a whole other fake-claiming can of worms conversation.)

Iâve had a headache threatening to get bad on me for the last couple of days, and this afternoon it finally did, but thank god it actually responded to Tylenol. It did the last couple of days, as well, but I wasnât sure it would since it was so bad. I was worried it might be a migraine, and me without any migraine medicine. But yay! Tylenol kicked it. For now, anyway. Might come back tomorrow. Itâs been a persistent thing.
Sometimes you just gotta drink 30 ml of soy sauce like itâs medicine.
