A fair maiden knocks on the goth lady’s door and says she’s here to find love.
The goth sighs, points across the road and says, “Witch is over there. He doesn’t do love potions because consent but he might be able to make you prettier, although 90% of the time it turns out the spell didn’t do anything but make you more confident.”
The maiden blushes and sheepishly explains that she knows he’s the witch, she just talked to him and he sent her over here.

I was at our local bakery recently and came across a loaf of bread quaintly branded as a “Peasant Loaf”. It was selling for over $6—the irony of this was not lost on me.
In retaliation I have decided to post what I actually think of as a peasant loaf, but with the luxury of finely ground modern flour which is less likely to break your teeth because actual peasant loaf bread is like chewing rocks unless you’re soaking it in soup or stew.
This is a very simple loaf, it requires no special tools and is a fairly forgiving dough for beginners to work with. Also it has the added bonus of looking like an expensive artisan loaf, but costs literal pennies to make once you invest in the basic ingredients.
So what do you need?
Ingredients:
Plain flour (or wholewheat if you prefer)
One sachet of active dry yeast.
Salt.
Water.
Tools:
Bowl
Mug
Prep and bake time total: 2 hours 45 minutes.
Yep, that’s it. You’ll notice that there’s no quantities listed up there, and that’s because you’ll be using the mug to measure everything. This helps to make sure your quantities are consistent, and means that so long as you have a mug and your ingredients, you can make bread. Heck you don’t even need a bowl, it just makes clean up easier.

291/365. You know, I didn’t do it every day, but I did it roughly 4 out of every 5. That’s pretty damned good in my book. Keeping my kitchen clean certainly helped my mood and general happiness in my surroundings.

192/365. This was not great. And as was probably obvious, I just gave up trying about halfway through the year. I need to figure out something better than this.
Do morning face routine every day (+sunscreen if leaving apartment)
305/365. This number would be even higher if I’d been a little better about sunscreen. Still, I’m pretty pleased with this result.
Do evening face routine every day
352/365. I think I can say that my skincare routine is as close to a daily habit as it will ever be. (And I got complimented on my skin last night, so that was nice.)
Try 30 new recipes
#20 Cinnamon Pecan Sandies. These cookies are really easy to make and freeze beautifully after cooking. I’ve been eating my way through a batch all month, and I adore them.
#21 Creamy Spinach Artichoke Chicken. Decent, but I don’t think it’s my favorite version of a dish with spinach, artichoke, and chicken. I served it over the last bit of couscous I found in my pantry.
21/30. The first half of the year was pretty rough, but I did a pretty good job expanding my recipe collection after that. Budget Bytes was a lifesaver in this regard, and I found a number of recipes from there I love and make repeatedly.
Read 30 books
16/30. Okay, this one really didn’t go well. I’m not exactly sure how to react to this, honestly. I...basically only did my required reading for RIC, which doesn’t make me all that happy in retrospect.

Earn $2,500 from freelance/side jobs
$3,729.45/$2,500. I did not expect to do this well, holy shit. I don’t feel like I was particularly good at being consistent with my freelance work, at least when it came to regularly pitching/reaching out to ask for assignments. Still.
