Ace: just saw Narvin crying in his office for five or six minutes and then his phone alarm went off and he just?? stopped crying?? and went right on back to work??? Narvin: It’s called time management.
Someone should emergency order Narvin to get some sleep
i say "character of all time" a lot but know that title is meant for Bernice Summerfield and no one else. she's a pacifist military brat. she's an archaeologist who faked her credentials. she wrote a book called Incredibly Bad Jokes of the 20th Century. she's lost everyone in her life that's ever mattered to her. she lived in the woods for months as a teenager with a pet turtle to escape authority. she has a complicated relationship to motherhood. she keeps making friends with the most powerful people in the universe. she's chronically broke. her clone became President of Earth. her bestie is a mass murderer. her life revolves around resisting fascism. she's the first person to canonically sleep with the Doctor. she threw a seance for her dead pet turtle. Sherlock Holmes went to her wedding. her timeline has been re-written over and over again. she's a functioning alcoholic. her middle name is Surprise. she lives with the constant guilt of all the people she couldn't save. she's even bisexual. no one will ever do it like her.

on the topic of disabled characters, though, i think a LOT of artists give characters mobility aids that their character wouldn't actually benefit from using.
i'm sort of having a mild brain fog moment rn so i can't fully articulate what i'm on about, but i think a lot of able-bodied artists view things like canes and crutches as interchangeable. and they often don't know enough about the wide range of mobility aids to make an informed decision about what their character might actually use based on their disability
i also think that aids like walkers and rollators are sort of viewed as "cringe" on some level, and many people view them to be "just for old people," so many artists will opt for giving a character who has full-body pain and fatigue a cane (which, in many cases, can potentially WORSEN full-body pain) instead. and a lot of people don't realize that most wheelchair users are able to walk, so they don't consider it an option for characters with chronic pain
idk it's kind of frustrating. i've genuinely never, ever seen a character that uses a rollator before. not once. i cannot name a single one. i know of multiple ocs who are described to have full-body pain, dizziness, and fatigue that are drawn as cane users and are never shown with wheelchairs or walkers, though
it's also sort of sad? i've been diagnosed since i was twelve years old, and i only heard of rollators LAST YEAR. and that was only because i saw one irl and immediately asked what it was. i wonder how many disabled people out there don't even know it's an option solely because they're completely underrepresented online and in media
if you're a creative with a disabled oc, PLEASEEE check out this link. it's a very nice and detailed guide for telling which mobility aids suit someone's needs best. it's incredibly important to make the right choice for your character! mobility aids tell you a LOT about someone's lived experience. picking the right one will communicate to your audience #1 what your character goes through #2 that you UNDERSTAND what your character goes through!

send me ☕️ + [topic] and i’ll tell you my opinion on it!
Anyone else thinking about how when the Doctor Who Cebeebies thing comes out next year, it will be the mainline Doctor Who show by default since there won't be any other Doctor Who show?
Like, not that I wanted Doctor Who to go into limbo, but this is infinitely funny to me.
There's an idea that I've probably mentioned before, but I figure it might be worth talking about directly - the concept of a Doctor Who spin-off having its own identity vs being a tv tie-in.
Like, I think there's a spectrum to this. We have EU projects that have basically no identity outside of the tv show and function very primarily as tv tie-ins (e.g., the New Series Adventures) to things that have some solid identity and iconography but are still fully dependent on the tv show (e.g., the DWM comics), to being its own thing that draws on the tv show lore but can generally be approached as an independent storyline from the show (e.g., Gallifrey), to functionally a completely separate thing from the tv show (e.g., Faction Paradox).
And what makes this interesting is that this spectrum doesn't feel to me to be connected to quality or licensing or anything else. Like, for a wild example, the Cwej series is to me kinda in the same category as the DWM comics, even though its not directly licensed - for me, a lot of the enjoyment of Cwej comes from its connection to Doctor Who as a whole. I wouldn't ever hand a Cwej book to someone who wasn't a fan of Doctor Who.
Another nuance I can think of is Big Finish. Big Finish Doctor Who is kind of unique in the EU in that it is big and varied enough to exist as a sub-franchise within the EU, and Big Finish tends to be fairly meticulous in feeling like a cohesive universe with itself - and with 25+ years of audios, that's a pretty vast universe. I would say Big Finish as a whole has a very strong independent identity, but I also thing Big Finish's different series run the full spectrum here.
Do you think butter and margarine are basically the same?
Yes
No
Like, functionally or flavour or texture
☕ Brax of the bennys! (Or your impression of him so far) (this is ivq)
I’m really liking him so far, I honestly think he’s better in the books than the audios (was especially a fan of him in life during wartime) (and the books give us the opportunity to see that this man apparently can not sit properly in chairs which I love)

You know I just wanna say. Doctor Who EU isn't cohesive. But given how Not Coordinated any of this is, I'm kind of shocked how cohesive it can be sometimes.
Like there are just certain ideas that seem to always happen. Like, no matter what continuity you're looking at, Romana becomes President. Ace and the Doctor have a large scale falling out is a very common idea. The concept of Gallifrey being destroyed was being fucked around with in like three different EU places before NuWho was even a thing.
