the illusion was always that we just had to do it. just âdoâ the homework. the meal prep. the college application. just write the email, send the homework, follow up with that interview, clean your room. these are easy things, one-click things, two-hours-max things. we had so many people in our lives shout it at us. âwhy didnât you just do it!âÂ
often my answer was a soft i donât know. an i-got-tired when actually it was more like - i couldnât. i just couldnât. it feels like everything is covered in snow. donât you know that iâm mad at myself too? i want this stuff just as much as you do. i want to live in a clean house with good food and have an okay job and know iâm not disappointing the people iâm coming home to. i donât like missing opportunities and having to scramble in a panic about last-minute things.
iâm a fully grown adult. she is posing for a pic on insta. if you want a life like this, go out and get it. itâs 2pm and i havenât eaten breakfast. i am staring at the space where i should be working.Â
her video has a laugh. âjust do it!â

okay but I did not know that there is a story about f. scott fitzgerald nervously showing ernest hemingway his penis because zelda said he couldnât satisfy a woman with it and ernest hemingway was like âlol no dude youâre fineâ
what are the modernists even
the best part of that story in context is that before they pull out their dicks, hemingway spends the better part of a chapter physically describing fitzgerald in great detail, claiming to be grossed out by him but obviously, obviously uncomfortably attracted
oh my god, it got better. I just went to find an excerpt and
Scott was a man then who looked like a boy with a face between handsome and pretty. He had very fair wavy hair, a high forehead, excited and friendly eyes and a delicate long-lipped Irish mouth that, on a girl, would have been the mouth of a beauty. His chin was well built and he had good ears and a handsome, almost beautiful, unmarked nose. This should not have added up to a pretty face, but that came from the coloring, the very fair hair and the mouth. The mouth worried you until you knew him and then it worried you more.
ernest hemingway calm down and control your thirst a little
âThe mouth worried you until you knew him and then it worried you moreâ is a hell of a lineÂ
No Homo: A Literary Masterpiece
Whatâs amazing about this is that Hemingwayâs writing is never this good in any other situation

Ditch Value judgments
What are value judgments?
We place value judgments on our emotions, our bodies, the food we eat, or what movies we relax with. This is built into the way we talk and think about our lives. Itâs generally based around word connotation or the way we are taught to view everything in our lives.to see things.
A few examples of value judgment languages:
We act as though itâs âbadâ to be angry or sad and âgoodâ to be happy or calm as  "good".Â
Eating Oreos is somehow a âcheat foodâ, âuncleanâ or that itâs somehow a personal falling that you didnât choose carrots.
Calling part of our bodies âproblem partsâ
Saying when we watch the notebook or watch reality TV itâs a âguilty pleasureâ.
These value judgements seep into the way we describe our whole self. Framing our sleeves as âdisgustingâ, âhorribleâ,âlazyâ, âbadâ etc.
Why is this harmful?Â
This language affects us so much. It changes how we view our choices and actions. Attaches shame to things that arenât shameful, causes fear around being who we are and it reinforces negativity and sets unattainable goals This is especially harmful because it throws the whole way you interact with yourself and the world out of focus and can cause you to stagnate. It becomes if I am âa gross personâ then integral to you instead of a passing thought your having. Now itâs âI canât feel better, Iâll always be this wayâ.
So how do we break out from this?
When you find yourself using value-based language switch it up.
Instead of  "Donât to be angry" try and reframe it âIâm angry and thatâs my emotion and itâs valid, now let me find a way to deal with itâ
Instead of âI cheated and ate the cake god how could I make that mistakeâ reframe it as âI ate cake today thatâs fine.â
Instead of âI didnât do X so Iâm just a lazy personâ can become âI was tired today and I didnât get it done, thatâs okay I can rest and mak a plan tomorrowâ
Instead of âIâm a disgusting person because X thing happenedâ Â replace it with âThat happened and it was upsetting but it doesnât change my worthâ
Placing value judgments may feel right in the moments either were upset with ourselves or weâve been trained to see things as good or bad. When we stop judging everything and learn to view things with acceptance it improves our self-perception and makes it easier to move forward and even improve when we need to.
Okay so this is bullshit advice, and a perfect example of how tumblr validates dysfunctionality. Sure, itâs a great way to tell yourself that all your negative behaviors are fine and itâs perfectly acceptable to eat garbage and be unproductive today, so long as you âmake a plan tomorrow.â Thatâs called procrastination and itâs not beneficial AT ALL. I agree that excessively beating yourself up for making mistakes is unproductive, but sooner or later you have to be frank with yourself and acknowledge that NO, eating cake and being angry are NOT healthy behaviors, and doing them today was NOT acceptable, even if you have âgood intentionsâ or whatever for tomorrow.
Disagree entirely. Eating cake is fine, provided you do it moderately. Being angry is healthy and valid in certain circumstances. I can see where you're coming from, but given the title of the source blog, I think you're misunderstanding the intention of this advice. To me this is aimed at people who are constantly belittling themselves over every action and whose self talk is so negative that it is the most toxic aspect of their mental health. Sure, anger, bad diet and procrastination CAN all be pathological, but I think acting like this advice is aimed at those kinds of behavior is a misunderstanding at best and disingenuous at worst.

bnha is fucking stupid bc bakugou should be the one who got bullied for being a stinky fucking freak who sweats all the time and deku shouldve been the most popular kid in middle school for his dope kicks and ability to draw everyoneâs ocs really well. also howâd grape diaper rat baby pass the entrance exam. just watch mob psycho
butâŚ.mob psycho ugly
Iâm literally going to come to your house and individually remove every single bone in your body this is not a joke
Ok but I can't be the only one who low key feels the same way about bakugo...
I fucking hate it when youâre in such a fantastically giddy mood and then you see one simple little thing that makes you think, âohâ and then you just get this empty feeling in your chest and you get nauseous and the world just crumbles and you want to just lay under a blanket and close your eyes and fall asleep and never wake up.Â
From what my therapist told me, this happens because our emotions arenât really on the âoppositeâ ends like we tend to think of it. Happiness is not âupâ and sadness is not âdownâ-. In a way theyâre actually right ânextâ to each other.
If youâre super happy, it can turn into super sad very easily, because your emotions are already highly elevated and itâs only a very minor shift as far as your brain is concerned.
Knowing this can help you fight it, and it can help you be more aware of whatâs going on while youâre happy and help avoid shifting towards misery.
I used to always wonder why it seemed like my happy days âcouldnât lastâ or that bad things would âalwaysâ happen when I was happy. Itâs not that happiness is doomed to fail, itâs that emotions are volatile. I hope that helps people who experience this too- when you understand whatâs going on more itâs easier to manage.

Happy Pride Month Eleanor Roosevelt was queer, the Little Mermaid is a gay love story, James Dean liked men, Emily Dickinson was a lesbian, Nikola Tesla was asexual, Freddie Mercury was bisexual & British Indian, and black trans women pioneered the gay rights movement.
Florence Nightingale was a lesbian, Leonardo da Vinci was gay, Michelangelo too, Jane Austen liked women, Hatshepsut was not cisgender, and Alexander the Great was a power bottom
Honestly just reblogging for that last one
Probably not historically backed but fuck yes
Eleanor Roosevelt wrote love letters to Lorena Hickok
Love letters Hans Christian Anderson wrote to Edvard Collin contain elements that appeared in The Little Mermaid, which he was writing at the same time
Several people who knew James Dean have talked about his relationships with menÂ
Letters and poems allude to a romance between Emily Dickinson and at least two womenÂ
Nikola Tesla was adverse to touch. He said he fell in love with one women but never touched her and didnât want to get marriedÂ
Freddie Mercury is well known for his attraction to men but was also linked to several women, including Barbara Valentin whom he lived with shortly before he died. Friends have talked about being invited into their bed and walking in on them having sex (documentary Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender)Â
Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera are two of the best-known activists who fought in the Stonewall riots
Florence Nightingale refused 4 marriage proposals and her letters and memoir suggest a love for womenÂ
Leonardo da Vinci never married or fathered children, was once brought up on sodomy charges, and a sketch in one of his notebooks is 2 penises walking toward a hole labeled with the nickname of his apprenticeÂ
Condivi said that Michelangelo often spoke exclusively of masculine love
Jane Austin never married and wrote about sharing a bed with women (Jane Austen At Home: A Biography by Lucy Worsley)
Hatshepsut took the male title Pharaoh (instead of Queen Regent) and is depicted in art from the time the same way a male Pharaoh would have been
âAlexander was only defeated onceâŚand that was by Hephaestionâs thighs.â is a 2,000 year old quote

I was walking behind a woman for five minutes and she got catcalled three times.
I usually walk everywhere with my headphones on, but I had them in my bag and I was reading a book on my phone instead (I do that when the foot traffic is light). Â A young Latina was coming down the street as I was coming up the avenue, and when she got to the corner a few paces ahead of me, she turned to walk in the direction I was going. Â We were traveling at the same speed, but since she was like ten paces ahead and itâs bright outside in the middle of the day, I didnât feel the need to fall back or slow down to give her more space. At night, I try not to walk too close behind women just so they donât feel like Iâm any sort of threat.
We got to a corner and this dude standing outside of the bodega was like, âSlow down mama where you goin? You donât have to work today, you can stop and speak.â
She didnât break her stride. âIâm going to the gym.â Â The Walk sign was on, so I didnât break mine either. Â
A block later, a young guy was coming toward us on the sidewalk riding his bike.
âWhatâs good shorty?â
She didnât respond.
âWell you was lookin, you can say something, stuck up bitch.â
We kept walking.
In the middle of the next block, an older man was walking toward us and he put on a friendly smile and said, âSmile young lady, itâs a beautiful day.â
I donât know if she smiled, but we kept walking. She went into the gym and I kept on toward where I was going thinking about how that was just five minutes of her day. Â How many other blocks of five minutes are just like that? Â
Only one of them was truly aggressive. The other two guys seemed nice enough and it felt more like a pleasant compliment. It felt like the kind of thing a guy says who argues with women online about catcalling. âWeâre not all bad guys. We canât even compliment women? We canât even say something nice?â
No. Â You really canât. Â I was annoyed in that five minutes and I just happened to be walking behind her with no headphones on. Â Can you imagine those five minutes over and over every day of your life? Â Nobody wants to be spoken to by strangers day in and day out forever regardless of what theyâre saying. Â
So no. Â You canât say anything. The quality of your life has not decreased because you arenât allowed to say nice things to strange women on the sidewalk, but your silence greatly increases the quality of hers. Â So just be quiet, and let her go where sheâs going.

Got it, my dudes?
you can make nearly any object into a good insult if you put âyou absoluteâ in front of it
example: you absolute coat hanger
as well u can just add âedâ to any object and itâs sounds like you were really drunk
example: i was absolutely coat hangered last night
#i was gazeboed mate #i was absolutely baubled
Meanwhile, âutterâ works for the first (e.g., âyou utter floorboardâ) but somehow âutterlyâ doesnât seem to work as well for the second (âI was utterly floorboardedâ).
Utterly doesnât work for drunk because itâs the affix for turning random objects into terms for *shocked*, obviously.
⌠huh.  I thought that might just be the similarity to âflooredâ, and yet âI was utterly coat hangeredâ does seem to convey something similar.
I have to tell you, I am utterly sandwiched at this discovery.
Completely makes the phrase mean âsuper tiredâ.
âGod, itâs been a long week, I am completely coat-hangered.â
