we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)

as a former escape room host i highly recommend doing an escape room as a first date. its a great way to learn how ppl react under pressure and how well they collaborate with you right off the bat. also more than once ive seen people enter an escape room as a couple and exit broken up LOL its a fantastic litmus test

sorry to broadcast ur tags but this is also a valuable part of the litmus test! it seems like you learned a lot about how this person makes you feel in their social group. they didn't go out of their way to include you, and neither did their friends. therefore you can come to a pretty good conclusion about how you might feel being part of their life outside of an escape room; someone who doesnt include you or your feelings in a game is likely going to do the same in other situations

children's movies love to set up parents and guardians as being cruel and unreasonable up until the child character is instructed by a third party to apologize or tell the truth or confess some kind of secret about themselves, and then all of a sudden the parental figure will learn empathy be like "wow... I didn't know you felt that way... don't worry, I'll always love you". and it really set some unrealistic expectations for me as a kid, where when I tried to follow that script irl I ended up getting told something more along the lines of "wow... you're really manipulative and spoiled... do you want me to apologize or something? I won't. it's your fault if you decided to feel 'unloved' or something. and if you don't start following my demands perfectly soon, you're going to ruin your life beyond repair and never be happy again. so consider that :)"

basically I think more movies should end with the parental figures continuing to be unreasonable instead of having a sudden and unrealistic change of heart, and then I think their kid should kill them. mhm. this would be good to teach kids what their backup options are if their attempts at diplomacy fail, and it'd be good as a cautionary tale for parents. I see no problems with this.

as a kid matilda was one of my favorite movies and it still is to this day for many reasons (danny devito, weird little girl power fantasy, etc). but the ending always stuck with me in particular because matilda is asking to be adopted and her dad is just like "sure idgaf" but theres this moment where her mom goes "you're my only daughter and i never understood you" and its not an apology or an attempt at redemption its just sort of an acknowledgement. theres just this pause where maybe forgiveness should be, like where another movie would have matilda say "aww mom its ok, i love you, i understand" but she doesnt say a word. and the mom just goes "where do i sign".

its a recognition of wrong and a form of absolution, not forgiveness. like shes not saying sorry but she is in a way protecting her daughter from future harm. it was honest and it gave matilda so much agency in a way that so much kids media shys away from because it would mean acknowledging that children arent just like. their parents property.

there will never be anything as funny as the mutual disbelief between long form and short form fic writers about each other's style.

short form writers look at people writing 100k+ fics as though this is some sort of talent given as part of a fae bargain, that the commitment required shows some sort of ungodly mental fortitude.

meanwhile long form writers look at people writing 1000 word one shots like god I would cut off my left nipple to be able to say anything concisely. i would love to play with multiple ideas. free me from the shackles of this child I have birthed. i love them but I now must take them to t-ball and doctor's appointments and they're going to destroy everything I own.

WIP Wednesday

I am three for three in writing during the month of June.

the story I'm working on feels so messy. Not just for the irl reasons of it being a wip that has been started and tossed aside several times since fall. but for the actual story being told. It take place between several stories I've already uploaded to ao3 and shows issues that aren't apparently in a few of them.

like i can't tell you how many times in the course of writing this that I've had this conflict in my mind:

Summary: Devon is torn between two Masters. Maul trains her by day, while Daki still visits her from the other side.
