Look at me. Look me in the eye. On November the 8th, 2016, one of two things will happen: Hillary Clinton will become president, or Donald Trump will become president. These are the only two possibilities. The superdelegates aren’t going to switch. An indictment isn’t coming. There is no third possibility. There is no space between the spaces where you can hide. Every vote for Donald Trump requires two Hilary Clinton votes to overcome. A Hillary Clinton vote can only be overcome by two Donald Trump votes. If you stay home, a Donald Trump vote doubles its power. This is the real, actual reality of the situation. There is not one other option.
And there’s no ctrl-alt-del for the election. Read up on 2000 if you doubt this.
And to those of us who supported Bernie, he WANTS you to vote for Hillary. If you believe in him and his mission you will follow his advice. He knows that writing his name in, or voting for anyone else besides Clinton, is effectively voting for Trump.
Refusing to vote for Hillary is a vote for Trump, no matter how much you scream and say how it’s not. And if you’re standing by to do nothing in regards to taking down Trump, then you ARE grouped along with the rest of the people in this country that ruin things for everybody else.
No, seriously, go read about the presidential election in 2000.
If you weren’t old enough to remember and/or understand the ramifications of the 2000 election, I WILL TELL YOU.
Do not let Trump win. Please. I beg you. I went to grad school with people who voted for Nader in 2000 and my FB feed is full of them begging others not to make the same mistake they did. Bernie has his priorities straight, and the priority is stopping Trump.
And if that doesn’t do it for you, this is the Republican platform 2016. It calls for:
Conversion therapy for queer kids. Let me repeat that. CONVERSION THERAPY FOR QUEER KIDS.  Some members of the RNC even wanted to endorse it more explicitly than they did.
Zealous opposition to same-sex marriage. Here’s the quote: “Our laws and our government’s regulations should recognize marriage as the union of one man and one woman and actively promote married family life as the basis of a stable and prosperous society. For that reason, as explained elsewhere In this platform, we do not accept the Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage and we urge its reversal, whether through judicial reconsideration or a constitutional amendment returning control over marriage to the States.”
Reversing the Obama administration’s order to grant trans students access to restrooms, locker rooms, etc. The Republicans feel that such things should be based on biological gender, not gender identity.
Treating internet porn as “a public health crisis.” Quote: “Pornography, with his harmful effects, especially on children, has become a public health crisis that is destroying the life of millions. We encourage states to continue to fight this public menace and pledge our commitment to children’s safety and wellbeing[.]”
Gender discrimination. To quote Time magazine: “[T]he platform committee voted against including the word “gender” in a list of types of discrimination that should be opposed.  On Tuesday, one member described the attempt to add that word to a list including qualities like race, sex and creed as a “sneak attack.”
Repeal of the Johnson Amendment. The Johnson Amendment currently prevents churches and other tax-exempt organizations from organizing politically, endorsing political candidates, etc. Repealing it would throw separation of church and state out the window…not to mention that it would give evangelical churches and televangelist organizations much more power, driving the country further to the right.Â
If you vote for Trump, these are some of the planks of  the platform you’re voting for.Â
You 👏🏻 can’t 👏🏻 stop 👏🏻 Trump 👏🏻 unless 👏🏻 you 👏🏻 actually 👏🏻 vote 👏🏻

It’s full of plot holes and really unnecessary twists designed for shock value that the audience never really asked for…
BREXIT and the myth of the “good” referendum
Last year, I had a long discussion with someone I went to graduate school with about referendums.
He was quasi-horrified at my assertion that I fucking HATE referendums, and couldn’t figure out why I was so against them given most of my work has been in the area of democracy and democratic participation.
I reminded him that, actually, I wrote extensively on how to modify democratic institutions after ethnic conflict.  Basically, I wrote on how democratic institutions - and in some ways democracy itself - are fucking TOXIC in an post-conflict era when you’re dealing with the persecution of minorities.
Translation: democracy allows majorities to consolidate their power and repress minorities.  Sometimes violently.  Democracy is only as good as the people who exercise it, and call me a cynic, but a large chunk of people are not good and can’t be counted on to make good decisions.  Even GOOD people can make terrible decisions based on ignorance.
Don’t get me wrong… I don’t believe that democracy is inherently wrong or that we should replace it with something else, but the idea that the more democratic something is, the better it is is fundamentally flawed.  We need to recognize that there are some things that the masses shouldn’t make decisions on because they don’t understand them.
Referendums are the fucking WORST WAY to make large scale policy decisions for a number of reasons.  And in some ways, BREXIT is a perfect example of this.  Most people have absolutely no idea what the EU is and how it impacts their lives on a fundamental level.  They have no idea what benefits they see from the EU because benefits, like privilege, can be invisible to people.  It’s easier to identify and complain about the things we don’t like.
People love simple ideas.  They love that the source of their problems is some woman dressed in a hijab or a man that doesn’t speak English or a child that is “illegal”.  They love when the problem is The Other.  The Other makes a problem easily solvable.  Get rid of them.  Drive them out.  It’s why ethnic conflict is so prevalent and bloody.
People listen to racist pieces of trash like Nigel Farage because it’s easy.  Because they don’t have time to understand the nuances of the EU and how it benefits them, they just have to believe the village idiot who runs around giving them easy answers about how the EU IS A WITCH WHO NEEDS TO BE DROWNED!
I fucking hate the idea that policy and politics is something that anyone can do, that anyone can make decisions on these topics with no expertise needed.  Ignorance and stupidity in politics can have the same disastrous effects as ignorance and stupidity in law and medicine.  It impacts people’s LIVES, and understanding policy and its impact on society is serious fucking business.  Leaving decisions of this magnitude to people who don’t understand them is dangerous, especially when you have dumb politicians who look to exploit their ignorance to further their own gains.
And this is why referendums are bad.  There are times where there are necessary evils (The EU isn’t even ONE OF THEM, which is what makes this so particularly flagrantly stupid) that countries need to endure in order to survive.  There are times where the beliefs and values of people are so toxic that the most vulnerable in a country needs to be protected from the majority.  And while it’s problematic and dangerous, there are times where the people need to be protected from their own ignorance and that of radical politicians.
What this referendum did was allow the ignorance of a sizable chunk of the population to destroy their economy and political standing in Europe. Â Perhaps the UK itself.
Basically, the UK just made such a stupid fucking decision that two of their countries are seriously eyeing seceding from it to remain in the EU, the value of its currency has fallen so low that its economy has dropped below France’s, and it all has incredibly frightening consequences for their domestic political and economic future. Basically the rest of the world thinks that it is dumber than a bag of fucking hammers for doing something so CLEARLY COUNTER-INTUITIVE TO ITS OWN SELF-INTEREST.
Meanwhile, the 52% of UKers who voted to exit are like, IMMIGRATION! WE CAN STOP ALL THESE ~~FOREIGNERS~~ FROM IMMIGRATING!  AND ALL THAT MONEY THAT WE CAN SAVE BY NOT BEING IN THE EU!  Except no they fucking can’t because they still need to be able to trade with fucking Europe.
See what I mean about PEOPLE BEING FUCKING STUPID? Â Half of the UK voted yesterday to shoot itself in the kneecaps and barely understood why.
Hi there. If you’re just waking up
Brexit won
The ÂŁ plummeted to a 30-year low
Japan has stopped trading
Scotland is pushing for independence
Ireland is considering re-unification
The Dutch Freedom Party are calling for their own EU referendum
Well, this took off whilst I went to sleep for a couple of hours. An update:
David Cameron has resigned, a fact I’d never thought I’d be sad about
Donald Trump just landed in Scotland, because we haven’t suffered enough
Nicola Sturgeon says EU folk are “still welcome in Scotland” and “their contribution is valued”
She’s thrown down the gauntlet re: staying in and is petitioning the EU for membership. The result is “democratically unacceptable”
“I intend to take all possible steps to give effect to how Scotland voted. In other words, to secure our place in the EU”
Statement officially made that second independence referendum “highly likely”
The financial markets are a shitshow
Vote Leave have ALREADY backtracked on their two defining campaign promises (more money for the NHS, less immigration)
A motion of No Confidence has been leveled at Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who honestly lasted longer than I thought he would
The UK have lost ÂŁ350 billion so far
Spain could re-take Gibraltar if they wanted to make a move
Morgan Stanley have started the process to move 2,000 investment banking staff from London to Dublin/Frankfurt
EU leaders are calling on the UK to get out ASAP
The New York stock exchange is down 500 points
From the amount wiped off shares, so far, divided by 32m voters… the cost is already at £6,000 per voter
Donald Trump has come out in support of the decision to leave, which is how you know we messed up real bad
Everything is fucked
I’m so sorry
Jesus fucking christ

Somewhere in the Leverage universe, there is a conspiracy theorist trying to prove that a certain minor league baseball player, a Canadian hockey player, and an American country music singer are all the same person. They have a file with various news printouts, and keep trying to upload them to a website, but every time they do, the site mysteriously crashes, threads go missing on discussion boards, and all electronic records of this man have simply vanished.

An Appaloosa mule foal
The “REAL [parent]” trope
You know that trope where an adopted person finds out who their biological parent is, and the writer keeps using the term “REAL [parent]”? Yeah, it’s super gross, and I wish it would stop.Â
It devalues adopted parents, step parents, legal guardians, and parental figures, and puts all the emphasis on biology, which is a terrible message to give to non-biological parents, AND to their kids. It’s also a terrible message to give people who’s biological parents are terrible parents. It also often perpetuates the narrative that parents somehow own their children, when it’s used in scenarios where a parent gave up or lost custody of their child, and now wants custody back on no other basis than a biological “right” to the child.
The importance and value a parent has in a person (or character’s) life should be determined by the effect they have on their child, not genetics. A biological parent is not more “REAL” than any other type of parent, ESPECIALLY if they’ve been absent for much/most of the child/person’s life, and it’s genuinely awful to perpetuate the harmful narrative that they are.Â
