I'm alive. Kinda.
Okay, so I'm still living.
I also had a kind of crazy idea for an actual novel (thanks dystopian reality for helping me craft the fucked up universe it exists in), but I'm realizing how much easier it is to write fic. There's so much universe building in my brain that it gets stuck in the logic of the universe instead of developing the story. And this one is magic/witchy so there's a LOT.
I also have a hard time writing shit when no one sees it because I kind of need that feedback loop to keep going because my ADHD ass needs something beyond my meds to keep it going. I was thinking about posting this on AO3, but it's... not really an AU? I mean, it could be, but I'm not really in any fandom. And it has set characters, though I do have some faces of the characters in my head (hello Jon Bernthal).
Also, is it weird that I kind of want to see if I can actually try to get this published? Even though I have no idea how? I feel like maybe that's the way to keep me going?
Then I have like 12 unfinished fics that drive me nuts because I HATE unfinished things.

This is the 11th time -that we know about- this dog has bitten a Secret Service agent. He has only ever bitten Secret Service agents.
What does Commander know that we donât?
GSDs are absolutely bred for temperament and commands* due to the legacy of the breed as a working dog in law enforcement, and I assume that the Secret Service, like all other law enforcement is trained on how to engage with GSDs and other working dog breeds and training where the presence of dogs is considered a security threat or liability. Aggressive and reactive dogs are pretty much aggressive and reactive towards all humans/animals.
Signs absolutely point to dangerous/aggressive/and therefore incompetent behavior by Secret Service agents specifically.
*also prevention of hip displasia** **one of my community college professors is one of the top breeders of GSDs for both law enforcement agencies and civilian owners so I wound up learning a lot about the breed
The Biden dogs - Major and Commander - haven't eaten the cat in the house or even bowled over the two elderly people. No other staff report bites. The president can afford the best dog trainers in the world.
The secret service is absolutely doing anything from teasing the dogs to abusing the dogs. Or just lying about play teefies. Secret service is pretty heavily maga and there have been occasional articles hinting Biden doesn't trust them.
I repeat, the fucking cat is still around and the old lady hasn't broken her hip being jumped on. Secret service's fault
Those dogs know. They *know.*

I sense a new children's book in the works.
Her name is Katalin KarikĂł. Hungarian. Daughter of a butcher. Her thesis work became the basis of the mRNA vaccine technology. Read the article here.
My favorite bits from the article include how Dr. Kariko celebrated the fact that the vaccines that used her mRNA research worked
âOn Nov. 8, the first results of the Pfizer-BioNTech study came in, showing that the mRNA vaccine offered powerful immunity to the new virus. Dr. Kariko turned to her husband. âOh, it works,â she said. âI thought so.â
To celebrate, she ate an entire box of Goobers chocolate-covered peanuts. By herself.â
I sincerely hope she is recognized more than she currently is.
She won a Nobel Prize! (02 October 2023)
CHRIS EVANS as STEVE ROGERS CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (2014)
ABBOTT ELEMENTARY | 2x07 â âAttack Adâ I do not agree with anything in that commercial. I just think that we need to find a different way to get what we want. If we stoop to their level, weâre no better than they are.
Wow, I genuinely hated season 2 of Shadow & Bone. I don't even care about the reason I suspect most people will dislike it.
Everything about it was just... miserable. The only part I cared for was Nikolai and his crew, but that was overshadowed by just the pure misery of everything and how it felt pointless. Logic was thin af.
WTF was the Matthias storyline even? Every single storyline just butchered and unfulfilling.
And the end? Just like, ERASE THE POINT OF AMPLIFIERS ANYWAY.
They should have just made it two seasons long (which it's going to be anyway) and tied things up a bit better UGH. SO DISAPPOINTING.

Thatâs completely fucking awesome!
I have complicated feelings about marine mammals in captivity but (a) this sealâs tango ability deserves recognition and (b) Iâm inclined to think that this level of coordination suggests the seal legitimately enjoys it.Â
@gordonthesquid
ok, so Iâm not at all an expert, but what Iâve learned from visiting various marine research centers and talking with people who work with these animals:
1) At this point in the US, all of the large marine animals like this you see cannot be released into to wild, and they come to the centers from things like injury and rescue. We do NOT just go out to the ocean and capture random animals. That is super illegal.
2) All performances like this are purely voluntary on the animalâs part. If a seal or sea lion twice the size of a person doesnât want to do an activity with you, there is nothing you can do about it. You can encourage behaviors through positive reinforcement, but in the end the sea lion does what the sea lion wants.
3) This kind of training is actually very necessary for proper care of large, intelligent animals! The more intelligent an animal is, the more important it is to have sufficient social and mental stimulation, and training with keepers provides both. The displayed behaviors that these tricks utilize are often seen as play and/or social behaviors in the wild.
4) And perhaps most importantly, training large animals to move and position themselves in certain ways is necessary for minimizing stress during routine medical care! You canât safely manhandle a large sea lion into showing its belly, so if you need to do a medical check without tranquillizing the animal (which carries its own risks and stresses), you need to be able to ask the animal to roll over on its own. If you watch the dance in the above post carefully, youâll note that a lot of the different âdance movesâ are effectively presenting different parts of the body. So what this performance does is take all of the stances/actions you might need it to do for a health checkup and sets it to music!
