If I’m being honest, even if Karmi could be annoying at times, the whole “bully” argument that people use to justify hating on her falls flat because even if she WAS a bully…she’s honestly not the worst one I’ve seen in fiction. Amity Blight, Sunset Shimmer, Katsuki Bakugo, etc. They were bullies to the MC too, worse than Karmi in more ways than one. But post redemption the fans practically fawn over them and have no problems shipping them with their former victims. Why is Karmi given hate when she’s the least harmful fictional “bully” you can find compared to these people (one of Bakugo’s first scenes had him daring Midoriya to commit suicide just because he was angered over Midoriya wanting to apply to UA alongside him). Literally the worst thing Karmi ever did with Hiro was posting embarrassing videos and pics of his failed projects online, and Hiro treats her as a nuisance more than a threat to his well being. Sorry if you don’t know any of the other characters btw, I was just making a point on how ridiculous the double standards in the fandom are when it comes to redeemed bullies.
Hi!! Ty for this, you make such a great point and it's honestly one of the things im so annoyed at with this fandom. Not posting much bh6ts anymore (thank goodness) but in short, the reason why the fandom have these ridiculous double standards to her are just straight up —
racialized misogyny.
I mean, think about it, Hiro's other love interests aren't that much hated compared to her (even though i dont consider megan as one since their relationship began and ended on a platonic note). Trina doesn't even get hate the same ad Karmi's when she was literally a villain. Half if not most of the fandom jump in to Hiro's defense everytime, only looking at things his way instead of trying to understand other characters. I get it, he's the main character and alot of fans go crazy over him, but sometimes they take it to the extreme and make him out to be some sort of baby. Like when Karmi took a picture of him as Captain Cutie, I was SO annoyed when people where saying Karmi took advantage of him for that, acting like she committed a whole ass crime for just that.
