A contributor's role in the zine, is to create a singular piece centered around plurality to be featured in the zine.
A piece is an artistic work of some kind. Some examples of what a piece could be are: A drawing, a short fanfiction, and a poem. Of course there can be different types of pieces, but that's just a short list of examples to help people understand.
Pieces are usually made by one contributor, however, if you find another willing contributor after being accepted, you can make a collaborative piece.
In this zine, there are two different contributor roles, for two different general types of pieces.
First, there are visual contributors. They create pieces that are visual in nature, drawings, crafts, ectera.
Secondly, there are writing contributors, they create pieces that are text based, such as fanfiction, poetry, analysis etcera.
You may apply for both roles, but you'll only be accepted for one.
While we do not want to limit contributor's creative freedom in this zine too much, there are some things we do not want depicted in the zine, which are as follows.
Sexually explicit content. Content that discusses it without being explicit is fine. (Feel free to ask whether something would count for this, as I'm not sure if I'm explaining it well.)
Positive portrayals of romantic or sexual relationships between children and adults.
Positive portrayals of romantic or sexual relationships between family.
In terms of visual piece guidelines, the only specific limit is the size, which should be 1080x1980. For visual pieces that could take up multiple pages (Like comics), each individual page should be that size.
In addition, for visual pieces that take up a single page, credit will be shown through a tag, somewhat like this (Image taken from Pixabay)
The design of the tag is a work in progress, but this is the rough idea. If you are accepted as a contributor, you will be provided with a image of it, in order to make sure it doesn't block anything important in your piece.
For multiple page pieces, how credit will be showed will be discussed with the contributor making it, to best show it without disturbing the piece.
For writing pieces there are no specific guidelines, but there are things we want possible writing contributors to keep in mind.
Firstly, you should try to keep your page relatively short. There's no word limit, however, by keeping it short it'll make it easier for you to complete, and helps it not overshadow other pieces.
Credit will be shown in a header above the beginning of the piece, which will be created by the zine team.
(Headers will include the name, or pseudonym of the writers, and can include a title, summary, and warnings, depending if the writer wants to include them, or they are necessary)
Contributing Requirements & Expectations
In order to contribute, you must meet the following requirements.
You must support systems without dissociative disorders, and systems created through things other than trauma.
You must be familiar with plurality.
You must read the zine's schedule (Which you can see here), and be able to commit to making a piece within that time.
Additionally, if you are chosen to contribute, you are expected to submit your check-ins and finished piece on time, without needing to be reminded by the zine team, and to communicate if you are unable to do that, or any other unexpected difficulties that are relevant to your ability to create your piece occur.
Plural Vs Singlet Applicants
Due to the fact one of our goals when making this zine is to uplift plural artists and writers, while singlets are allowed to apply, in choosing who to accept, plural applicants will be prioritized over singlet applicants.
In addition, the pieces of singlet contributors will be reviewed by our team during the process. This is to avoid uninformed singlets creating pieces that promote pluralphobic stereotypes and tropes.
This is not to discourage singlet applicants, simply to be transparent with how we're going to handle them.
In this zine, you can contribute anonymously! This option is available specifically so systems who aren't out can contribute without outing themselves.
You can contribute anonymously for other reasons, of course, but that's why we decided to make it an option.
If you decide to contribute anonymously, unlike other contributors, you'll contribute under a pseudonym, used to differentiate you from other anonymous contributors and no other information will be shared about you. (Unlike non-anonymous contributors, who are credited under a name of their choosing, and social media or some kind of personal website).
Additionally, if you want to contribute as a system who isn't out, but don't want to contribute anonymously, there is an option on the application to specify that you aren't out as a system. If you click that, we won't share the fact you're a system, and treat you as a singlet that got accepted if you do get accepted.
Where do I apply to contribute?
Contributor applications are not yet open, but they will open on June 15th, and there'll be an announcement of them opening on the blog itself.
