Raphael having the time of his life on a Mediterranean holiday.
All of this was prompted by ONE quote from the game where Raphael says "adieu" to the player even though French/France does not exist in Faerun. So the only logical explanation is our little princeling would use Dimension Doors to go across universes of course!
You can get some of these as prints here!
Click on the images for clearer detail!
Edit:
For anyone wondering where he says "adieu", it's when you tell him to leave during his Shar temple scene. He says to you, "As you wish. [...] Until then... adieu." and then bows goodbye.

I saw a prompt that said the love interests are accidentally in close quarters and they're hiding from something. So ofc i did a fem!shep x garrus of it. Hiding from husks, yeah this wouldn't happen but it does in my heart.
Your gun is jammed and Garrus is hurt with Kasumi scouting ahead for an exit. The husks were starting to overwhelm you guys, so you told Kasumi to go for back up while you pulled Garrus's hulking body with yours between some crates. Now you're crushed against him, counting his gasping breaths as he clutches the wound at his side. He has to lean over you, his head resting on the crat behind you while you get some medigel from your omnnitool.
You move back a bit to see the wound on his waist and glance up at him. "Um, is it okay if I put this on? Or do you want to do it?"
"Heh, I usually ask for dinner first," he scoffs between a ragged breath. His dual tone voice sounds so seductive when he's whispering, it's almost distracting. "Go ahead, Shepard. I won't take it personally."
You roll your eyes and slither your hand to his side, gently brushing the thick gel across his wound and tensing when he hisses at the sting. Down below, there's a rolling grumble from the few husks left and the two of you hold your breath and wait for them to settle.
Once it's quiet again, except the hum from a generator, you try to give him more room to settle and ease the pain, but he catches you with a hand on your back. When you give him a questioning look, he gestures to the stack behind you then easily lifts you onto the crate. You hold your breath to stop a surprised yelp from escaping you.
Sometimes you forget just how strong he is and how much bigger he is compared to you. Being eye level with him makes it difficult for you to concentrate on the problem at hand, a common occurrence lately. You hold your legs together and angle them to the side, allowing him more room to lean towards you and put less pressure on his wound from his armor.
"It's not deep, right?" you whisper, worried about the hushed keen from his subvocals.
"No, just burns," he rumbles a reply. "Are you worried?"
You nudge him with his legs, flinching when he does before opting to shove his arm a bit. "Just don't want you bleeding all over me again."
His shoulders shake with a silent laugh, as he looks up whatever retort stops dead in his throat as he realizes just how crushed together the two of you are. His outstretched mandibles brush against your chin, a warm and surprising gentle feeling that startles you for a second. Ice blue eyes gaze into your own as the world seems to still and you don't want to move.
Your breaths mix as he leans to put his right hand on one side of you and keep the other braced against the crates on your right. A similar scenario has played out in your head multiple times in the past few months when you think of Garrus and now your mind charges down those same paths. He would easily trap you into a kiss, human or turian, and you'd melt right into it. He watches you as if thinking the same thing, his eyes darting down to your lips and then back up to your eyes.
Does he know how humans kiss? Would that disgust him?
You don't get to find out as the compound suddenly vibrates with the familiar explosion of back up. Garrus leans away, offering a hand to help you down before you take over and pull him close to help him walk back out. Neither of you speak, though your blushes are evident, as you each take a pistol to shoot the husks from the opposite side.
"Anything fun happen while I was gone, Commander?" Kasumi asks with a certain gleam in her eyes afterward.
You do your best to play it off, but the flush returns and she practically skips away with her own ideas of what happened.

Hi! Can you do one with Azriel finding out your mates with him/ meeting him? đ
(Photos courtesy of Pinterest)
Authors Note: Love this request! I chose to go down a rom-com vibe, as I absolutely adore scenes like this.
The first snowfall in Velaris always made everything feel softer.
Quieter. Gentler.
The upcoming Solstice celebration usually had the residents in festive cheer, especially with the added knowledge that the High Lady's birthday was also at Solstice. Residents decorated outside their houses and storefronts, the smell of cinnamon and cranberry would waft through the markets and the Rainbow was also bustling with festive cheer and spirit.
You would have appreciated it more if you weren't currently running late.
"Gods, I'm going to be so late-" you muttered under your breath, clutching your coat tighter as you hurried down the street, boots crunching over fresh snow.
Your focus was entirely on getting across the Sidra in time, mentally running through excuses that didn't make you sound completely incompetent to your friend you were currently running late to meet.
All because of the one stubborn section of your hair at the back of your head that you could never get the annoying kink out of.
Which is precisely why you didn't see him.
You hurried down the street and turned a corner too quickly, keeping an eye on the ground to avoid any icy patches-
-and slammed straight into a wall of solid muscle.
"Oh-!"
"Shit-!"
Strong hands caught your arms on instinct, steadying you before you could fall. You were staring at a chest of black leather, a blue siphon glowing faintly. For half a second, you thought you'd be fine.
And then-
Ice.
Your foot abruptly slid out from under you.
His did too.
There was a split second of shared, horrified realisation before everything went spectacularly wrong.
You both went down in an undignified tangle - arms, legs, and wings -snow flying everywhere as you hit the ground hard.
A breath left your lungs in a rush as you landed flat on your back with a handsome stranger above you.
One hand planted beside your head. The other gripping your waist to keep from crushing you completely. His wings flared slightly, shielding you from the worst of the fall, even as snow dusted dark leathery membrane and talons.
For a moment, the world just...stopped.
You blinked up at him.
He was-
Beautiful, in a way that caught you completely off guard. Shadows curled faintly at his shoulders, like they had a mind of their own. His hazel eyes were already on yours, sharp and assessing-
And then they changed as your eyes met.
His eyes dilated. His nostrils flared. His jaw tightened.
Something deep, ancient, and unyielding snapped into place.
It wasn't gentle. It wasn't soft.
It was a jolt - like something invisible had reached into your chest, zapped you and tied itself to him.
Suddenly you could feel him.
You were aware of nothing else, but him. The world faded around you. The centre of your universe was this stranger above you.
Your breath hitched.
His did too.
The shadows around him surged, then stilled - before slowly, almost reverently, drifting toward you.
Oh.
Oh.
Well, fuck-
Neither of you moved.
Neither of you spoke.
But you felt it - him - as clearly as your own heartbeat.
And judging by the way his entire body had gone rigid, the way his grip on you had tightened ever so slightly-
He felt it too.
"Well," an amused male voice drawled, "this is one way to meet someone."
The moment shattered.
You froze.
Slowly - slowly - you became aware of everything else.
The street. The snow.
And the two males standing a few feet away, both very clearly trying - and failing - not to laugh.
Your stomach dropped clean out of your body.
The High Lord of the Night Court was watching you, violet eyes gleaming with poorly concealed delight.
Beside him, a male you could only assume was the General of his armies had already given up trying to hide his amusement and was openly snickering.
You stopped breathing.
You were on the ground.
If the High Lord and his General were there, then that meant you were-
Under the Shadowsinger.
In front of the High Lord.
Covered in snow.
"Oh my gods," you squeaked.
The male above you seemed to come back to himself at the same time.
Of course the one person in Velaris you could collide with, like an absolute disaster, was the Shadowsinger himself.
He pushed up slightly, clearly intending to give you space - but his hand hesitated at your waist, like something in him resisted letting go.
That bond - still thrumming, insistent - didn't help.
"Are you hurt?" He asked, voice low, steady - warm and controlled.
You tried to contain the shiver down your spine at the sound of his voice.
You shook your head quickly. "No-no, I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going, I just-"
You stopped.
Because he was still looking at you.
Not annoyed. Not even embarrassed.
He looked...amused, and incredibly focused.
Like he'd suddenly found something he hadn't been searching for.
Your heart did something deeply unhelpful.
Behind him, the High Lord made a soft, thoughtful hum. "Interesting."
"Rhys," The Shadowsinger warned quietly, though he still hadn't taken his eyes off you.
That only made things worse.
"Right," you said faintly. "Yes. Brilliant. I'm just going to...get up and stop lying on the ground in front of-"
You attempted to sit up.
He immediately offered his hand as he - seemingly reluctantly - got to his feet.
You took it without thinking.
The moment your fingers wrapped around his, that bond flared - warm and undeniable, like it was settling more firmly into place. Although his hands were clothed in leather gloves, the warmth as his large hand enveloped yours was almost scorching.
You both felt it.
You both knew you both felt it.
He pulled you gently to your feet with ease.
And didn't let go.
The General snorted. "You planning on keeping her, Az?"
You nearly choked.
The Shadowsinger didn't even look at him.
Instead, he said quietly, "I'm Azriel."
You swallowed.
Your name came out almost breathlessly.
His grip on your hand tightened just slightly, like he was committing it to memory.
"Nice to meet you," you managed, even though your brain was still somewhere on the ground where your dignity still lay.
The High Lord - Rhysand - stepped forward then, smile far too knowing for your comfort. "Well, seeing as fate has decided to be particularly efficient today..."
You had a bad feeling about this.
"...you should join us for dinner later."
You blinked. "I-what?"
The General grinned at you, eyes full of mirth. "You're going to be seeing a lot of us now anyway."
Your face went hot.
"Cassian, shut up," Azriel almost hissed.
You glanced at Azriel - half expecting him to shut this down, to say something sensible-
He didn't.
If anything, there was the faintest hint of something softer in his expression. Something almost...hopeful.
And he still hadn't let go of your hand.
"Only if you want to," he said, voice quieter now. For you alone.
The bond pulsed between you.
You were absolutely, completely doomed.
"...Dinner sounds nice," you said.
Rhys's smile widened like he'd just won something.
Cassian looked delighted.
And Azriel-
He finally, reluctantly, loosened his grip on your hand.
But only just.
Like he already knew, he wouldn't be letting go anytime soon.
Sooooo, are you still taking writing prompts? What about a Starborn PC (aka Shephard) heading into Nishina station and Sam canât figure out what the hell sheâs so worried about? the world can wait
Youâve done this before. More than once. Itâs not complicated but it is tedious. Worth it to save both realities again and again. Shifting between the sterilized facility with robot defenses and its survival horror counterpart, complete with alien monstrosities. You make quick work of it all, overriding the obstacles blocking your way to get to the lab. To the artifact.
Only this time, Raphaelâs body in the sterilized reality doesnât contain the slate thatâs needed to save everyone. Padding him down, you check every pocket, sleeve, boot, anything you can find. But thereâs nothing.
âShit, Raph, whereâd you put the damn slate?â The search spreads wider.
You rifle through lockers and under desks and chairs. You even check the bathroom. Maybe he dropped it behind the toilet? But itâs nowhere to be found and time is ticking. Shifting back to the reality colored apocalyptic horror, you find Raphael, alive and well.
âHey, do you have the slate?â
âWhat slate?â he asks and his confusion has your stomach in knots.
âThe one with the degaussing instructions.â
âI don't have that.â
If only youâd taken time to memorize it. The regret pools in your gut. Learning the hard way, again.
With a sigh, you thank him and head back to the sterilized reality. At the very least, you can save this version. But new questions arise in your head with the turn of events. Is it a mercy to leave Raph, protecting him from the crushing weight of being a sole survivor? Or will he slowly starve to death, coming back for you in another universe, angry and vengeful?
Thereâs no time to dwell. You make your choice. Scientists over Raphael.
You disengage every power interlock as quickly as you can. Power down the central control and grab the artifact.
Spinning and swirling and swimming in a sea of stars, the unity touches your mind, showing you the latest thread spun in your particular tapestry of fate.
You wake up, only one thing on your mind.
Sam.
Did this new decision cause a disruption or a disconnect? Will you leave Nishima and find him standing just outside the facility where he said heâll be?
How badly is this world fucked?
Panic rises, festering and oozing out through your sweating palms. You fret and fumble, stumbling your way back to the main entrance. You donât even bother to check up on the scientists. Theyâre obviously fine. Their thank yous roll off your back as you pass them by. You see the exit.
The door hisses and it feels like an eternity before they pull apart enough for you to squeeze through, eyes searching for the place he should be.
âSam?â You call, your voice dry, rough and cracked.
But heâs not where you left him.
Your heart races. Youâre mumbling ânoâ under your breath, over and over again, like a penitent sinner. Pleading with the heavens, and bargaining with the stars.
âSam!â You scream.
His name is a choked back sob burning at the back of your throat.
âYou better be here,â you croak, eyes searching the horizon and all the places around you.
He shouldnât be back at the ship but what if he is? What if heâs safe? A glimmer of hope. You need to see. Need to know.
You take another step forward, the tears drying as you tell yourself that heâll be there.
But then that little worm named worry inches in, whispering to you, what if he isnât? Then youâll have to explain to your crew mates. Explain to Cora.
Oh, noâCora.
You slump to your knees, the voice of worry growing louder. A cacophony of horrible what-ifs brings your heart rate up so high your hands are shaking. You canât go back to the ship without him. You canâtâyou wonât. You know you havenât searched everywhere. There's one last place before youâll give in and go to the ship, to face whatever might be waiting there. So you turn around, retracing your steps back to the facility, heading up the stairs and toward the cliff edge. You pass by a tree on the right and pause to watch as the sky awakens in an ambient peach glow. Itâs beautiful but itâs not Sam. You hang your head, hopeless.
âOh Sam,â you whisper to yourself. âWhere are you?â
A hand on your shoulder has you reeling around, gun in your hand.
âWhoa, whoa! You alright there, darlin,?â
Sam.
Heâs okay. Heâs okay! The weight lifts off you and just one look into his baby blues is enough to carry you down from that panic driven high. The air is breathable again as you toss your gun aside, throwing your arms around Samâs neck. You cling to him, fingers grasping at the bare skin of the back of his neck, tears flowing freely down your face. âWhere were you? I looked everywhere and you werenâtâyou werenâtââ
Then your hands are on his cheeks, fingers to his lips as your eyes map out the entirety of his face. You wrap your arms around his midsection and squeeze, ear pressed against his chest. His heartbeat is a steady thrum inside your head.
He holds you tight, smoothing his hand up and down your back. âShh, Iâm right here,â he says. âIâm right here.â
âI thought Iâd lost you.â Again.
âYou havenât lost me,â he says. âIâm here.â
He gently removes your hands from his neck and holds them, studying your face.
You grasp his hands tightly, and bring them to your lips. One kiss for each knuckle and one kiss for each scar. Then you flip his palms over and kiss those too.
The lines of his eyes crinkle when he smiles at you. âYou okay? Need to talk about what happened in there?â
You shake your head. Youâd rather forget it all.
âI justâI need you.â
âOkay,â he says in his familiar and calming drawl. He presses his lips to your forehead. âOkay.â
You lift your chin, searching his eyes. Drink up his soft and gentle smile. Then you kiss him. Deep and devoted. His tongue slips into your mouth, hands roving your body, urgent and insatiable.
You back him against the nearby tree, out of sight for anyone that might come along. No one will, though. Youâre confident of that. Itâs just you and him and the wide expanse of land meeting sky embracing the two of you in a morning haze.
Your fingers are undoing his belt buckle and his hands slide up your back, to your shoulders and then cup your face. His eyes are askance of your audience.
âWe donâtâyou donât have to do this.â
âItâs not a matter of obligation. But of want. Of need,â you tell him.
Itâs a matter of finding some solace in the sighs you can invoke. You want to hear him, revere him, touch him. Immerse the entirety of your essence in him.
âWho am I to protest then?â he says with a chuckle.
How youâve missed that. Missed him. Those few moments without him were just minutes but felt like daysâno millennia.
His belt buckle loosens. Button unsnaps.
You relish in the soft zip mixed with the quiet hush of wind at your ear, kneeling before him as the supplicant pilgrim. Heâs already shirking out of his jacket, tossing it on the ground beside you. Your fingers inch under the hem of his shirt, exploring the skin of his body and brushing over the hair of his belly. Sprawling hands out to his sides, finger pads pressing into the black inked tattoos, you rest your forehead against him.
Three deep breaths and youâre grounded for a moment.
One of his hands pets your head, soothing and calming before you press your lips to his belly button. Plant a plush path of kisses down to the elastic of his boxer briefs. Then you dip your hand past the band, tugging, and freeing his cock. Gently you massage his balls, while wrapping your other hand around his length. You pump once, careful not to pull the sensitive skin.
He murmurs something sweet, calls you darlinâ as you slide your hand down his shaft. You lick your lips as you eye his excited cock, bobbing slightly and eager. You kiss the veins and make use of your tongue, testing and tasting. Having a bit of fun.
With satisfaction, you envelope him with your lips.
He shudders under the sudden shock of warmth from your mouth; a flood of sensations to his nerves. You draw him in deeper, massaging him as you delight in his tip touching the back of your throat. You pull free, with a smack of tongue to lips while releasing his balls. A string of saliva catches fractals of light as you swipe it from your bottom lip, glancing up to meet his adoring eyes.
âYouâre a sight to behold,â he says, voice deep and gravelly.
He doesnât realize that heâs the true sight to behold. But you will show him. Show him that heâs all that and more.
You close your eyes, those words washing away all that worry. Lips pressed to his tip, you open your mouth wider to be filled with the entirety of him. Your cheeks hollow out as you suck. Your other hand, snaking around his ass and gripping, steadies you as he hisses a profanity.
His hand has slipped from your head to the back of your neck where he holds you tenderly. Though his cock twitches and hips jerk, begging to thrust, he remains self-controlled.
Your own arousal heightens under his strained moans and self suffocated cries. And you take more of him. More of those muffled sounds and praises that keep tumbling out of his mouth with every lick of your tongue. Every languid drag.
You quicken the pace, driven by the urge to please him and a bit of precum spills. You withdraw, lapping it up with a lewd swipe of your tongue.
Stealing another glance up at him, his eyes are closed, head falling back against the tree bark and that self control wavers with a desperate, âplease,â and squeeze of your neck.
You oblige happily, losing yourself to his shudders and sighs. Ravishing his length in your mouth, setting a rhythm that pushes him to the precipice, guides him to the edge. His nails dig into your shoulder as you draw him in and out of your mouth. One great sigh and the grip of his hand loosens. Salt and warmth slide down your throat and you still your lips, gently sucking the remainder of his spend.
You swallow each and every last drop. With one last suck before release, his hands pull you away, drawing you up to his lips as he bends over you. Kisses you, urgent and besotted. After a few moments lost in the taste of one another, you break apart. Breathless. Come together again in a desperate embrace. Suspended in time, the sky brightens to almost blinding within the next hour. You never want to let him go. But the others will start to wonder. Unlessâ
âWe should get back,â you say. âWe need to check on the others.â
âWhy?â Sam asks, tucking himself away and adjusting his pants. He buckles his belt.
âI had to do things differently this timeâin Nishina. Itâs why I was so worried I couldnât find you. I was terrified something happened andâwhat if that something happened to the othersâto Cora.â Thereâs that little flutter of panic again.
âShh,â he says, pulling you back against his chest. âTheyâre alright,â he reassures.
âHow do you know?â
He pulls away, placing his hands on your shoulders and squeezes. âIâve already checked in on them through the comms. Theyâre okay. Weâre all okay.â
You can feel the moisture in the corner of your eye but you wipe it away.
âI love you,â he says, kissing your forehead, then your cheek. Finally your lips. âImmensely and totally.â
And you know this in every fiber of your being but it is a relief to have it spoken. After everything.
You snatch up his jacket from the ground and dust it off. Hold it open as he stuffs an arm in, shirking it back on. Taking his hand in yours, you squeeze it once.
âI love you Sam Coe, and when we get to a quieter place, Iâm going to spend a whole day showing you just how much.â
âHolding me hostage for a day, then?â
âMake that a week.â
With a chuckle and squeeze of your hand, he says, âIâm all yours, darlinâ.â

The first time he calls you bird, it isnât planned.
It slips out low and rough over comms, threaded between gunfire and static.
âGot eyes on the east stairwellâtwo hostiles,â you murmur, voice steady despite the chaos crackling through your headset. Your fingers move fast across the keyboard, pulling feeds from three separate cameras, stitching angles together in your mind like a map only you can see. âThird one lagging behind, limping. Might be wounded.â
A beat.
Then, in your earâgravel and smoke and something almost amused.
âChrist⌠you see everything, donât you, bird?â
A dim operations room buried somewhere deep in the base, humming with electricity and recycled air. The overhead lights are always too soft or too harshânever just rightâso youâve taken to leaving only your desk lamp on. It casts a warm, golden pool over your workspace, leaving the rest of the room in a kind of permanent twilight.
Screens line the wall in front of youâsix in total, each flickering with different feeds: satellite imaging, drone footage, helmet cams. One is always reserved for him.
Ghost.
Though you never call him that out loud. Not really.
To you, heâs just a voice. A presence. A constant thread in your ear during long nights and longer missions.
You know the cadence of his breathing when heâs crouched and waiting. The way his voice drops half a register when somethingâs wrong. The quiet, almost imperceptible hitch when heâs injured but refusing to say it.
You know him in pieces.
âTalk to me, bird,â he says one night, softer than usual.
You glance at his feed. Heâs tucked behind a crumbling wall, dust coating the camera lens. Thereâs bloodâdark and dryingâon his glove.
âTwo tangos left,â you reply. âOne on your six, slow approach. Otherâs posted near the exit.â
A pause.
Then, quieter.
âYou always watchinâ me that close?â
Your fingers still for half a second before you recover.
Late hours. Your voice guiding him through shadows. His voice grounding you when the silence between updates stretches too long.
Sometimes, when the mission lulls, he talks.
Not much. Never too much.
But enough.
âYou ever leave that room, bird?â he asks once.
You glance around at your little corner of the worldâhalf-empty coffee mug, a blanket thrown over the back of your chair, a sticky note peeling off your monitor with scribbled doodles and coordinates.
âSometimes,â you say. âI think.â
âThink?â
âItâs⌠easy to lose track of time in here.â
You imagine the man underneath. The lines of his face, the thoughts in his mind, the way he probably looks at a room before stepping into it.
You build him from fragments.
From silence.
From the way he says your nameârare, but it happens.
From the way he says birdâlike it means something.
The first time something goes wrong, really wrong, your hands shake.
âGhost, you need to move. Now.â Your voice is tighter than youâd like, eyes darting across the feeds. âTheyâve reroutedâthereâs a squad heading straight for you.â
No response.
âGhost.â
Static.
Your chest tightens.
âSimon.â
The name slips out before you can stop it.
And suddenlyâ
âIâm here.â
Relief hits so hard it almost hurts.
âI lost visual,â you say quickly, forcing yourself back into focus. âCameraâs down. Youâre blind to me.â
âNot blind,â he mutters. âStill got you, donât I?â
Your throat goes dry.
You guide him anyway. Off memory, off instinct, off the rhythm youâve built together over countless missions.
Step by step.
Breath by breath.
Until heâs out.
Safe.
They tell you later it was close.
Too close.
You stay in your chair long after the room empties, screens dimming one by one until only your desk lamp remains.
Handlers donât meet operators. Thatâs not how this works. Youâre voices, not faces. Ghosts in different ways.
So when your door opens one eveningâquiet, deliberateâyou donât look up right away.
âRoomâs off-limits,â you say absently, eyes still scanning reports. âYouâll needââ
You stop.
Because the room feels⌠different.
Heavier.
You look up slowly.
And there he is.
Filling the doorway like something pulled straight out of shadow. Broad shoulders, tactical gear, the skull mask stark in the low light. Real in a way that steals the air from your lungs.
For a moment, neither of you speaks.
Thenâ
ââŚBird.â
Itâs quieter in person. Rougher. Real.
Your heart stutters.
âYouâre not supposed to be here..â you manage.
âYeah,â he says, stepping inside anyway, boots barely making a sound against the floor. âGot that impression.â
He looks around your spaceâyour screens, your notes, your carefully controlled chaos.
âThis where youâve been watchinâ me from?â
You nod, suddenly very aware of how small the room is. How close he is.
âAll of it,â you say. âEvery mission.â
His gaze shifts back to you.
You canât see his eyes. Not really. But you feel them.
Heavy. Intent.
âThen I figured,â he says slowly, âitâs about time I saw you back.â
Something tightens in your chest.
âYou didnât have toââ
âWanted to.â
The words land heavier than they should.
Silence stretches between you, but itâs not uncomfortable. Not like before. Not like the empty kind.
This is⌠full.
âYouâre quieter in person..â you say softly.
A faint tilt of his head.
âAm I?â
âYeah.â You hesitate. âBut less⌠hidden.â
A low exhale. Not quite a laugh.
âFunny..,â he murmurs. âWas gonna say the same about you.â
Your lips twitch.
âGuess weâre both a little different off comms.â
âMaybe.â He steps closerâslow, deliberate, giving you time to pull away if you want to.
You donât.
Up close, heâs overwhelming. Not just in size, but in presence. Like standing too close to a storm.
But thereâs something else, too.
Something familiar.
âYou called me Simon.â he says quietly.
Heat rushes to your face.
âIâthought I lost you.â
A pause.
Then, softer..
âDidnât.â
Your breath catches.
For a moment, it feels like youâre still on commsâlike this is just another fragile thread of connection stretched across distance.
Except thereâs no distance now.
Just him.
Just you.
Just the quiet hum of the room thatâs held your voice for so long.
âGuess Iâm not just a voice anymore.â you say.

Simon counts time to the rhythm of your breathing. You're so still it's the only thing he can focus on, the only thing that gives any sign that you're not just a corpse laying in front of him.
Just taking a while to wake from the anesthesia, they said, People respond differently to it sometimes.
That does little to calm the shake in his hands that started up the moment he heard your squad request medical once you arrived back at base.
There was never a doubt in his mind that it was for you. Who else would it be for? You were the only person he ever said those words to. The warden of his heart, the keeper of any goodness he has left. The moment those words left his lips he had marked you, the black mark of the curse that sits buried in his ribs like meat hooks locking onto you like he had placed you in the crosshair of his sniper.
Except this time it was someone else who had pulled the trigger.
An ambush, it would later be called. Simon is more apt to call it a major intelligence fuckup. What was supposed to be a weapons cold, milk and cookies mission turned into nothing short of an active war zone. Somewhere there was a leak of information, and you ended up paying for it with a bullet in your ribs.
A through and through. They stabilized you and kept you that way during exfil, but the surgeons still needed to cut you up to put you back together again. No lung shot, no shattered bones. Just a clean exit wound and a lot of blood loss. PT will be a bitch.
Lucky, they called you.
Damned, he thinks. All because of those two words.
He scoops up your hand and lays it in his like it's made of glass. For a moment he wishes his gloves were off, but the idea that if he does, if his skin touches yours, you'll fall through his fingers like smoke seizes him with a such a severity that his chest tightens.
Instead, he runs his gaze over your hand like it's the last time he'll ever be able to. The texture of your skin, the scars and marks, its bends and curves. The way it fits in his. The dried blood in the edges of your fingernails.
When he looks back up he sees a sliver of your eye peeking through heavy eyelids. His grip encases your hand.
"Mornin' sunshine." His voice is barely above a whisper. You blink blearily at him. Your drug-sleep heavy voice rumbles through your throat.
"Sim'n."
"Yeah, darlin'." He watches as you start to come back bit by bit from behind the propofol haze. You look at him with fuzzy eyes for a moment until you suck in a sharp breath. Simon's heart jolts in his chest and he's about to flag down a nurse until you raise your hand and slap it onto his chest, your coordination shot.
"Simon," you say again as if you just remembered something.
"Yeah, baby, what is it? What'd you need?"
"L've you t--"
He covers your mouth with his finger. And he holds it there as his eyes scrunch shut. His heart having never felt so light and heavy at the same time. He takes it from your lips only when he can open his eyes again and not immediately embarrass himself.
He slides his hand to cup the side of your face, more gentle than you would expect of a man like Ghost. The gentleness that's only there because of you.
"I know," is all he can say. You are his Polaris, the singular point of light in the ever expanding dark that will always guide him home. You are the red in his blood, the marrow in his bones. You live in the stillness between every beat of his heart.
How can he not know?
As you relax back down to the pillow, your precious face a soothing weight in his hand, he runs his thumb over the curve of your cheek. He says it back through the motion, what you realize he's been saying for far longer than when he first gave the words voice: I love you.
simon riley when he has a crush on you is almost hilarious from a bystanders point of view.
the man from manchester first began crushing on you just by a mere interaction. you didnt even do anything extraordinary, the two of you met in a meeting room, John Price introducing you to the rest of the team, and amid your introductions with the all five men, you made brief eye contact with them all, including ghost.
during that brief moment of eye contact, lasting no more than three secondsâ when your own shiny and curious eyes met his dead onesâ simon quite literally an arrow shoot through his heart. to simon, you unintentionally imprinted on him.
from then on, the rest of the men have noticed a theme between the two of you.
whenever you walk into a room, ghost's hard-to-get-attention is suddenly fixated onto you. he goes quiet, quieter than usual, and stiffens up entirely. the man sometimes even shushes others when you are talking with a harsh glare or a sharp "shh" that is too quiet for you to notice but loud enough for others to hear.
in social events, the man follows you like a puppy. youre always wondering why men dont approach you anymore and youve yet to figure that maybe its because theres this 6'4" 250 lbs man looming behind you like a menance, but his eyes are quite literally shiny and alive just by being around you.
the best of all is the bold caring side of him that hes eager to share with you. whether itd be him insisting that he be the one to carry you when youre injured amid a mission. its him who takes all the heavy lifting and just looks at you with a deadpan stare when you complain.
its him who drives you late at night home when you suddenly want to leave the bar, its him who always answers your call at the wildest hours when you need someone to pick you up from whatever trouble you got yourself in. its him who listens intently to you yap off about your niche interests and concerns, and its even him when youre upset and crying and want a hug even though he hates physical contact.
and if someone dares to slander your name? well, if they are a man, simon just gets to add the guy to his list of people he scares out the country.
so if its clear simon adores you with every might of his being, then why hasnt he asked you out? even soap is scratching his head.
the answer? nerves. youre just too good for him. simon rather watch you from the sidelines, from the view of being three steps behind you, he'd eagerly wag his tail in secret at the sight of you, just to be able to appreciate your presence a minute longer without losing you like the rest of them.

~ ~ ~
There were many things you hated about being human.
Every day that passed in this entirely foreign and ethereal world seemed to chip away another brittle piece of your exterior, revealing another mundane flaw hiding beneath your skin. Another weakness.
You wished you had been tossed into that Cauldron.
It was a selfish thought, perhaps. One that used to claw at you with guilt every time it flit through your mindâevery time you watched your sisters crawl deeper inside themselves as they grappled with all they had lost. As they mourned what the Cauldron stole from them.
Feyre was decidedly not a shell of herself, though, and she was fae. She was beautiful, strong, more sure of herself than you had ever seen her. She had a mate.
Mate.
They all had mates now.
They all had friends.
A purpose.
Bile rushed up your throat as you lurched for the toilet, the porcelain icy against your feverish skin. Your body heaved, violently expelling whatever illness had weasled through your measly defense system.Â
When the overwhelming wave of nausea finally abated, you slumped against the hard porcelain, only slightly cringing at where you had rested your head. At least it was your own bathing chamber.
In a magic house.
You huffed a half-delirious laugh, your ribs aching and throat burning as you slowly pushed away from the toilet. Your movements were sluggish, your limbs heavy and trembling as you fully lowered yourself onto the cold floor. Your cheek pressed against the chilled tile, eyes fluttering shut at the momentary relief. You curled in on yourself, exhaustion curling around you like smoke, and you begged it to take you away.
~ ~ ~
A gentle brush against your cheek made you twitch, your face twisting as you turned away from whatever had broken through your momentary reprieve. The touch still lingered, a featherlight caress that followed along your jaw up to your forehead, pressing gently against your sweat-damp skin. Their touch was cold and soothingâa harsh contrast to the bitter chill running up and down your spine.
You tilted your head up, chasing the touch you had turned away from seconds ago. Everything felt heavy. Hot. It was so hot.
âY/N,â a deep voice murmured. Their tone was cool like their touch, a soothing balm over your inflamed mind cascading into hazy delirium.
You sucked in a breath, your face turning toward the voice. âY/N,â they said again, this time a little louder, firmer.
You forced your eyes open, your lashes fluttering as light from the window made you wince. It took a moment for your vision to focus, for shapes and blurs to regain their sharp lines and definitionâfor you to recognize the massive figure kneeling beside you.
âAzriel?â you rasped. You swallowed hard, wincing at the burn in your throat and the acidic taste clinging to your mouth. âWhat are you doing here?â
There was a little crease between his brows as he looked at you, his gaze otherwise eerily still. âYouâre burning up.â
You huffed a pitiful laugh that sounded more like a cough, your ribs flaring with pain. âI didnât notice.â His palm was still pressed to your forehead, and you were still lying on the floor of your bathroom. Next to your toilet. The mortification that flooded you was almost hot enough to dull the chill nestled deep in your bones. âDid one of my sisters send you?â
Azriel scowled, the crease between his brows morphing into a deep furrow, his lips forming a flat line as his eyes flared with indignation. He pulled his hand away, leaving your flushed face entirely exposed to the stale air around you. You shivered, as if your body wanted to physically remind you that it was currently at war with itself. As if you had forgotten.
Azrielâs scowl disappeared as quickly as it had formed, even the crease between his brows smoothing out as he slipped a hand behind your back. âCome on,â he coaxed. âLet's get up.â
You let him guide you up, not that you really had to let him do anything. He was so large. Even kneeling on the floor with his wings pulled tight behind his back, he still dwarfed you. Everyone here looked like they could crush you with the toe of their shoe.Â
The change in position sent a rush through your head, your blood pulsing in your ears as your vision danced with spots. You grabbed the edge of the toilet as another violent wave of nausea roiled through you, heaving your body over the bowl just in time to expel whatever little remains lingered in your stomach.
Azriel didnât leave. As much as you wished he did, as much as you wished you could fall through the floor and weather this alone, he stayed. He stayed with a steady hand on your back that rubbed up and down your spine, the thin fabric of your nightgown a weak barrier between your skin and his.
It was ugly, and disgusting, and you felt like a frail shell of yourself when the heaving finally ended and you sucked in shaky desperate breaths. Azriel brushed the errant strands of hair plastered to your skin away from your face, the tie you had sloppily pulled it back in failing at its job.
âHow long have you been like this?â he asked, voice quiet and restrained, as if worried about breaking the fragile stillness that had fallen over you.
You opened your eyes, still sucking in breaths with more effort than you would have liked. You glanced at the window, the sun streaming through with bright beams. You shrugged, sort of, and answered weakly, âIt was dark.â
Azriel murmured under his breath, his ministrations on your back faltering. âWhy didnât you call for someone?â
Your mouth was dry. Your throat hurt. Your head ached. You really werenât in the mood to be chastised. âWho?â you bit out. âHow? No one is here. Cassian is away. Nesta is away. Youââ
âI would have come. I did come as soon asââ his words cut off, Azriel seeming to think better of whatever he was about to say. You slowly moved your head toward him, lifting your head from where it was cradled in your arm still resting on the toilet. He met your gaze, his eyes wild with emotions you didnât have the energy to tease apart. âI gave you that pen and paper. Told you my shadows would deliver any message.â
You remembered. Remembered the pitiful safeguard your sisters had likely forced upon Azriel to give to you as a sad Solstice gift. âThatâs for emergencies.â
âItâs for anything,â he argued, his voice rising a bit. He sighed, shaking his head as his hand came up to cup the nape of your neck, the touch sending goosebumps across your skin. âAre you done?â he asked, voice much softer.
You blinked at him, your mind swimming from the fever and pain and his touches and his voice and the way you just noticed his shadows licking softly at your bare feet. You grimaced as you glanced at the toilet, reaching to flush the contents away as you pushed yourself up. âFor now,â you murmured.
Azriel didnât move, barely gave you space to sit back on your heels. You felt a bit detached from your body, your limbs shaky and heart racing as you struggled to keep your mind tethered to your arms and legs that were meant to carry you through this wretched illness.Â
âGood,â Azriel said, his voice incredibly close to your ear. âLetâs get you back to bed.â
You shook your head, immediately protesting at the thought of walking to your bed just to inevitably have to hurdle yourself back in here soon. âCanât.â
âI will get you a bowl,â he said, like a man that was used to plucking solutions out of thin air without being challenged.Â
Your bed would be nice. You were suddenly freezing after suffering through the wave of heat you had awoken to, and your ostentatious but undoubtedly soft mattress would inarguably be more comfortable than this hard bathroom floor. Your blankets, your sheetsâ
Your sheets. Embarrassment curled in the center of your chest, almost mistakable for another bout of nausea if you didnât know better. Your sheets were uninhabitable after you had awoken from your sleep so suddenly, so violently, you didnât have a chance to do more than throw the covers off your body before the nausea won over you. âMy sheets areââ
âClean.â
Your eyes snapped toward Azriel. âWhat?â
His lips curved slightly, into what might have been a smile if he was not kneeling beside you on your bathroom floor after watching you throw up in your toilet. You shivered again, a mixture of your self-disgust and the fever sending another chill through you.
His hands squeezed your arms. âCome on.â
You really didnât want to stand up, but you did want your bed, and something told you Azriel wouldnât leave until you got up off your bathroom floor. You nodded, head lolling a little too far forward as your vision swam and your ears buzzed.
âOkay?â Azriel asked softly.
You took a slow breath, willing the dizziness and fatigue away for just a few seconds. âFine.â
Azriel had moved onto his feet at some point, but he was still crouched beside you as he watched you pitifully push yourself up using the toilet as leverage. Whatever blood and tension that had pooled in your head, making it feel heavy only moments ago, vanished once you stood.
You stumbled, reaching blindly for something to stabilize yourself with before two arms curled around you. âOkay,â Azriel huffed, then lifted you with startling ease. âThatâs enough of that.â
He was still in his leathers, you realized, only once your cheek was pressed against the dark fabric across his chest. Where did he come from? How did he even know to look for you? Why did he care?
Your chest prickled with indignation as he carried you into your room, an undercurrent of anxiety running through your veins as you thought about just how vulnerable you were. Anyone could have found you in that bathroom. Sure, you were safe here, in this mountain you could never leave unless you asked someone. They said you were safe.
But you were still a human in the fae lands. You were a human in an enchanted house that was your only company for sometimes days on end, and you were weak and alone. You could never defend yourself if it came down to it. Let alone when you were sick and unconscious on your bathroom floor.
Azriel could have done anything he wanted. He could haveâhe could have touched you. He could have taken whatever he wanted from you, like the males in your village had once triedâhad almost succeededâand they were mere humans. Azriel was not only fae, he was a warrior, a spy, and he served alongside the most powerful high lord. He couldâ
He sat you gently on the bed, crouching in front of you as his hand came up to cradle your face with so much gentleness, his thumb hovering before wiping away a tear you didnât know had fallen. âHey,â he said, voice a gentle hum. âWhatâs wrong? Are you in pain?â His eyes ran over you, a little frantic. âDid I hurt you?â
Azriel would never. You knew that.Â
You knew that.
A sob forced its way through your lips. Azrielâs eyes went wide, and before you knew what you were doing, you were falling into him. Your forehead pressed against his leathers, your nose inhaling the faint cedar scent that lingered around him. His arms immediately wrapped around you, one of his hands cradling the back of your head as you cried into his chest.
âSweetheart,â he murmured.
The name weaved in between your ribs and coiled around your heart, squeezing tight as another ugly sob broke free. You wanted this. You wanted him. You wanted a life with your sisters. You wanted a mate, a love, like they hadâand you never would.
âHey,â Azriel murmured, holding you tight against him as he came up to join you on the bed. He pulled you into his lap, holding you in a way no one ever had before. Even as a child, you couldnât remember a time someone just held you. âBreathe, Y/N,â he soothed, the words soft and gentle. âTake a breath. Youâre okay. Itâs okay.â
âIâm scared,â you admitted through broken and shaky sobs. âIâm so scared.â
Azriel held you tighter. âYouâre going to be fine,â he murmured. âMadja is coming. Iâm not going to let anything happen to you.â
You shook your head, sniffing as exhaustion made your sobs die out, but tears continued rolling down your cheeks. âOne day I wonât be,â you whispered, the soul crushing words burning your throat.Â
âWhat?â Azriel asked softly.
âIâm human, Azriel.â You sniffed, turning your face into his chest. âOne day, I wonât be here, whether because of illness, or age, or a stupid accident, because Iâm human. Iâm weak, and Iâm alone,â you choked on the word, trembling as anxiety and exhaustion and lingering nausea scraped their claws through your chest. âI donât want to die,â you whimpered, shoulders shaking. âI donât want to die while everyone I love gets to keep living. I donât want to grow old without my sisters. I donâtâI canâtââ
âOkay,â Azriel murmured, rubbing his hand over your head. âOkay,â he said again, the word sounding fragile. âYouâre not alone,â he finally said, the words a soft rasp against the top of your head.
You scoffed, starting to protest, but he cut you off. âYouâre not.â He squeezed you tighter. âYouâre not alone, Y/N.â
âThey have mates,â you argued brokenly, âI will never have that.â
âThatâs not true,â Azriel assured, the words sounding a little strangledâlike they might mean as much to him as they would to you. âI promise, thatâs not true.â
You wanted to argue. You wanted to get mad, to yell, to tell him he couldnât possibly know that. You wanted to push him away, you wanted to hide from whatever feelings you felt toward the manâmaleâwho currently held you in his lap. You wanted to protect yourself from another inevitable heartbreak.
But like you said, you were alone, and you so desperately wanted not to be. You were sick, and shaking, and the fever was still clouding your mind in a dense fog, even as your volatile emotions started to evaporate under the pressure of exhaustion.
âIâm tired,â you murmured weakly, head lolling against his chest.
âI know.â His hand rubbed up and down your arm, and you might have been falling into delirium when you thought he pressed his lips to the crown of your head. âDo you want to change?â he asked, softly.
You nodded, hating the thought of climbing into bed wearing the same gown you had spent hours lying in on the bathroom floor. It was also thin, and short sleeved, and you were freezing.
âOkay,â Azriel said, shifting you gently off his lap. You might have whined, or whimpered, your body aching from the movement and your heart throbbing at the loss of him. He ran a hand over your head as he left you leaning against the many pillows along your headboard. âYouâre okay,â he soothed. âIâll be rightââ His breath caught, his eyes snapping toward the foot of your bed. He blinked, his shadows pulsing once, twice, and you thought his ears might have turned pinkâit was hard to tell in the dim light of your room thanks to your closed drapes.
âIâm not going anywhere,â he said instead, the words releasing some of the tension that had held your shoulders up to your ears. He reached toward the end of the bed, a navy sweater folded neatly at your feet. âPut this on,â he told you. âIt will be warmer.â
You glanced at the sweater he had lain on your lap, the fabric absurdly soft and plush against the exposed skin of your thighs. It wasnât yours.
And as much as you wanted to engulf yourself in Azrielâs sweater, to swaddle yourself in the lush fabric that would feel worlds better than the scratchy nightgown that was beginning to suffocate your skinâyou didnât want to move. You didnât want him to see how your arms would undoubtedly shake, and you didnât want to use every last ounce of your strength just to change out of a single article of clothing.
âI can help you?â Azriel asked, a gentle offer with only a hint of hesitation, his hazel irises dripping with sincerity and concern that made you flush all over despite the chills still crawling under your skin.Â
This wasâit was too much. You couldnât ask him to do this. He should leave. He had done more than enough for you already, more than enough just by caring enough to check on you, for whatever reason that had been. You werenât his to take care of, and he wasnât yours to want him toâeven if you did, with every fiber of your being.
You were human.
And heâ
He wasâ
He sat down on the bed, his wings draping gently behind him, one covering your lower leg. He didnât seem to notice.
You dragged your gaze away from the sight of his wing against your skin, forcing your eyes to meet his. He smiled softly, his lips turning up so gently at the corners. âLet me help you,â he nearly begged. Your eyes started burning again, and he reached up to wipe away the moisture that quickly escaped from your waterline. âNo more tears,â he murmured. âNot tonight.â
You nodded, taking in a shaky breath as you stared at the sweater still on your lap. Tan and scarred fingers picked it up, setting it beside you on the bed. âIt will take seconds if I help,â he said.
âYou shouldnât have to,â you whispered.
His hand cupped your face, your eyes immediately meeting his again. âI want to,â he murmured. A shadow crawled up his wrist to stroke your cheek alongside his thumb. âIf you let me.â
âOkay,â you whispered.
Azrielâs hands immediately went to the hem of your gown that was already rucked up embarrassingly close to your waist. Then he paused, his eyes meeting yours, waiting for one last confirmation.
Something in your chest fractured. A fissure branching out from your heart and all the way down to your soul, another hit with the startling reality that this could be your life. If things were different, you could have had this. Him.
You could pretend to have him tonight.
You nodded, and Azrielâs lips pulled into another tiny smile as his eyes stayed on yours, and he pulled the gown up and over your head with gentle ease.
The soft sweater went over your head in quick succession, Azriel guiding your arms through the sleeves as the fabric fell down your torso and pooled around you on the bed. Only then did he let his gaze wander below your shoulders. âOh,â he murmured, âhere.â Then he gently coaxed you forward, and the pads of his fingers brushed the skin of your back as he did up one of the slats in the back of the sweater.Â
Because it was his sweater. Meant for large, magnificent wings.
âThere,â he said, satisfied, and then guided you to lie back into the pillows before standing up. He pulled the covers back, gently tugging them out from underneath your legs just to pull them back up to your chin as you scooted further down.
It had been a very long time since someone tucked you into bed.
Azriel brushed some stray hairs away from your face, and you didnât even have the energy to care how you must look. He leaned down, his lips pressing to your forehead, and you were fairly certain you were not hallucinating this timeânot when his kiss lingered, and he pulled away just to press a second quick peck a little closer to your hairline.
You watched him closely as he pulled away, watched how his shadows seemed to pour from his body and seep toward your bed, watched the way his wings twitched before he refolded them behind him. Watched the way his throat bobbed and his cheeks tinted the same shade of pink you thought his ears had earlier.
âYouâre still pretty warm,â he murmured, the back of his knuckles tracing gently over your cheekbone, as if he couldnât quite pull himself away.
When his touch finally fell away, and he took a half step back, panic squeezed the air from your lungs. âAzriel,â you rushed out, your panic poorly hidden in the rough and breathy words. âPlease,â you said, swallowing once. âPlease donât leave.â
His face turned softer than you knew was possible, and you wanted to keep this version of Azriel to yourself for an eternityâeven if your chest hurt at the reminder that his eternity would span centuries beyond yours. Tonight then. Tonight, maybe you could keep him, just until you were well enough to stand without crumbling to the floor.
âIâm not leaving,â he assured.
He kicked his boots off, soft thuds on your floor as they fell over. Then he started unbuckling sheaths and straps that heldâŚwho even knew what close to his body. âIâm not leaving,â he said again, before disappearing into your bathing chamber.
Your heart was racing. You glanced at the large bowl that had magically appeared on your nightstand, and you desperately hoped you wouldnât need it. For the first time, you wondered if anyone else knew you were sick.
Probably not, unless Azriel told them somehow. You still didnât understand how exactly they all communicated with each other.
You hoped no else knew, and that Azriel would stay.
He came out in a new set of clothes, his leathers traded for soft lounge pants and a plain t-shirt, his sock-covered feet carrying him back to you. You didnât know where he got the clothes, just like you werenât sure where his sweater you were wrapped in now came from, but you had learned to stop questioning every little thing since living here.
This time, he crawled onto the other side of the bed, his back leaning against the headboard as his wings flared out on either side of him. One of them grazed your cheek as he tried to extend it, then bumped the top of your head as he moved around. âIâm sorry,â Azriel murmured, almost embarrassed. âDo you want me to move?â
âNo,â you answered a little too quickly. You shuffled closer to him, closing the distance between your bodies and making more room for him to rest his wing. âYouâre warm.â
You had not meant to say that, not really, but Azriel seemed to preen from the possible half-compliment, if you could even call it that. Then his wing draped completely over you, a second cover that offered immediate warmth you were craving. The edge of his wing rested gently against your cheek, the membrane silken and smooth against your skin, and you wanted to touch it with the tips of your fingersâbut you were not entirely lost to your illness, and still had some decorum, so you kept your hands tucked beneath the covers, and let yourself finally drift off into sleep as you breathed in the soothing scent of soap and cedar.

Later, when your room was darker and the sun no longer creeped out behind the edges of your curtains, you awoke with your head in Azrielâs lap, and his fingers gently drawing figures along your collarbone. His wing still covered you, an extra layer of protection from the outside world that you never wanted to leave.
Your head was spinning as you shifted around, sleep still clinging to the edges of your mind. Azrielâs fingers came up to lightly trace your jaw, the motion gentle and soothing in a way that had you melting back into him, allowing sleep to slowly creep back in.
Exhaustion reclaimed you, and you were dreaming again.
You must have been, when you murmured, âIn another life, maybe you were mine.â
And he said back softly, âI am in this one.â
