Origin story
can i speak my truth. i think zoro and luffy have absolutely disgusting freaking it sex (yes they can be tender sometimes but this post is not about that) with absolute disregard for the crew and just like public decency. like sanji needed a week to recover the first time he witnessed them doing it and chopper questioned his understanding of human anatomy and flexibility
oh our petty zoro LOVED hearing that
Do you think Zoro has ever looked at Rayleigh and felt his insides freeze from fear? Do you think he sees a version of his own future where despite everything he’s tried, despite all the blood he’s shed and would go on to shed, his captain would still slip away from his hold — and he’d be left adrift for the rest of his days, drinking to oblivion, alone, bereft of any and all purpose?
Or do you think Zoro would be filled with contempt instead, and disgust at how the peerless Dark King failed to save his own captain’s life, even though it was no fault of his? Do you think Zoro, possessing the stubbornness and bravado of a much younger man, would insist that if it were him, nothing — absolutely no man or force in the universe — would be strong enough to rend him from Luffy’s side, and if Luffy had to die like Roger had to die, that Zoro would simply follow him to the afterlife?
Or do you think perhaps he’s unable to picture it at all — a life without Luffy’s warmth — so he ignores the many parallels between them and avoids contemplating the matter entirely? Perhaps he rather pities Rayleigh, because the former right hand man of the Pirate King should be free, but Rayleigh will never again know the meaning of the word, haunted as he is by a ghost he can’t bear to exorcise.

Every time Luffy and Zoro bring up the marriage Baratie vow, it feels like we're watching a couple recalling some fond memory between them that only they can understand. It feels so intimate and although we, as viewers, watched it happen, it still felt like we're third wheeling their moment.
X
Look at them reanacting their Baratie promise in the middle of a fight. Doesn't this look like low-key flirting? GotAProblemWithThatKingOfThePirates?heeheeNope. Ughhh. They are so cute disgusting. Get a room!
Also, Luffy during Dressrosa. I love it when Luffy does it. He has so much faith in Zoro's words that he was never worried about leaving Zoro behind. Telling some randoms Zoro made a promise to him so they shouldn't get worried must've sounded gay to them lol
And of course the guy who started the marriage vow. Yes, he will bring it up when opponents are getting tougher to beat. He has to remind himself his husband is waiting for him
It's a moment only the two of them share and for them to suddenly bring it up out of the blue makes me physically ill.
Luffy really enjoys mocking and annoying Zoro, huh?
saw this post again finally recided to redraw
Zoro always seem to sense when there's something wrong with Luffy

Honestly one of the things that make LuZo so very funny to me is that... There's not a sexuality crisis happening there. They don't question if their relationship/feelings are appropriate. Luffy just decided that Zoro was his and his alone and he'd have him in every way possible. And Zoro accepted that with zero hesitation and went forward with his life because he has already committed his loyalty and life to Luffy.
Literally the only thing about them that hasn't been dramatic is them agreeing to be in a relationship.
couldnt have said it better myself (i really couldn't, i wander too much in my thoughts)
the only thing about them that hasn't been dramatic is them agreeing to be in a relationship.
YES so well said
its the best. agreeing to a romantic and sexual relationship is a step DOWN from the extreme they started with, its LOWERING the degree of intensity from "you are mine forever and only mine because i don't share - and you are fully and entirely mine because I don't do things in moderation" and "I'm yours entirely, i was lost, not knowing what to live for, i thought i knew but i was aimless but i have you now and where you go I'll follow and ill die if i have to to keep up with you because i believe in you like i never believed in anything in my life"
is all SO psychotic that Luffy wanting to tear into Zoro and chew him up is 1) natural for Luffy 2) would be completely logical turn of events to Zoro since he GETS how Luffy is and agreed to fully devote and dedicate himself to such a man - Zoro knew what he signs up for, if he at any point was surprised, it'd fit for him to berate himself for being surprised - what are you surprised by? your gut wouldve told you - now if you chose to ignore it thats a different story Zoro..
So if Zoro hesitates/resists which i do find very cute if done right - its fully him fighting himself. his gut told him, but its his fault if he didnt listen. we can be sure he felt the vibe, he saw the signs. he is good at people and he got GOOD at understanding Luffy from the moment they met - Zoro can only lie to himself that he doesnt see it before Luffy jumps him - of course he caves with little fight, lie or not subconsciously he already accepted everything
yes you are
A personal favorite dynamic of mine is ‘I would die for you’ and ‘Die? Who said you could die!? No! I will drag you back from the afterlife my self!’. Like yes the ‘I’d die for you’ energy is great, but when the other person responds with basically a ‘like hell you will!’ It’s probably one of my favorite things.
Close enough

Imu vs Luffy (+ Zoro) prediction 5
What I really don't understand is why, when Luffy is regarded as such a great character for aroace representation, Zoro is so often just tossed aside, like they are not the same in this regard.
While Luffy gives vibes of a person that really does not understand what you all have going on with all that (sex, romance, whatever) and does not give a fuck (or rather he's so beyond these things on some transcendent level that us poor mortals with wisdom stat lower than nat 30 cannot comprehend), Zoro is a learned individual that knows what this is about, but is decidedly not interested.
Aroace people are not some pure naive little flowers that do not understand what's sex, romance and love is. If you look at it that way, 'don't know - don't care' position is more likely to turn into an interest than 'I fully comprehend, but it's not for me'.
Mother-darkness forbid, this is not anti-shipping. I adore ZoLu as a ship just as much as I enjoy the aro-ace relationship representation. I just can't get why push so hard for Luffy being aro-ace and deny the same thing for Zoro, who shows the same (none) amount of interest in this side of the relationship spectrum.
Their relationship won't lose the meaning if you take away sexual and/or romantic dimension from it. Zoro can still be focused entirely on Luffy even if he is in aro-ace spectrum. Luffy is his guiding star, the one who showed him the path to his dream, helped him find his true self when he was lost. Knowing his track record with getting lost, it's obvious for Zoro to follow Luffy to the end of the world. Luffy will always be Zoro's wanderlust and wistfullness personified, whether you add sex and romance into the mix or not.
And, well, people on the spectrum can, but don't have to be in relationship. "Aro/ace" is not some kind of a stamp you put on characters forehead as a way to prove that he's off limits for shipping. Sure, it may be different from your regular toxic yaoi, but it is still valid. Denying and chucking off a huge chunk of connections and relationships aroace people may have rather takes away from representation than solidifies it.
