Hello. The name's Senshi, it's a pleasure to meetcha. I'm just a dwarf traveller who's taken to making meals of the beasts I come across over the years I've spent in the local dungeon. I noticed the others from my party were partaking in this thing and figured it might be a good place to lay down some roots, talk about life's simple matters and let people know about how things are treatin' us.

Ask me things if you'd like. I'll be checkin' in on the other party members when I can and posting bits of our past travels in the meantime.

Agh-- this is horrible! Why would a spell like that even EXIST?!

[ Senshi is trying to keep his composure, but the irritating sensation along his back is overwhelming. He twitches before attempting to reach behind him between his shoulder blades, his hand straining to get close enough. He looks like a dog shaking around miserably from fleas. ]

Good evening, dwarf. I would like to... thank you for assisting my collapse the other day. Im not sure what would have happened to me without you. That mushroom could only do so much.

Though—i was not expecting that weed could provide me with such a negative reaction... but, now thinking about it, i never had a positive one, even before my time as lord... why..?

Well, you don't need to worry about it-- of course I would want to help someone in need. I hope that my handling wasn't too rough, I figured it would be the only way to get you to a bed to recover.

I don't think I've ever done anything with a weed like that, but if it causes such a reaction as this, perhaps it's good that I haven't. You looked very ill. I luckily had some left over soup from my last meal that I could reheat for you, which probably helped with recovery some, but...I am no doctor.

If you're feelin' any worse off, don't be afraid to call me or Marcille. Or one of the others out there-- I'm sure with your position, you can probably get doctors on call, right? Whatever it is, you should give yourself some time for good rest and drink plenty of water. It's important for your body to get the chance to bring itself back up to 100%.

[ It appears that Senshi may also be a bit too short to reach these shelves. He stands there awkwardly next to Shroomy while holding the soy sauce, looking up at the shelf in bewilderment. ]

...Perhaps one of his advisors could assist in putting this away at a different time, instead. There were plenty of those, what were they? Bird fellows? They had those uniforms. I'm sure they will be back around to help at some point.

do you by chance have any recipes for white button mushrooms..?

the urge to just deep fry them (like every basic ingredient I don't know what to do with) is strong, but I know that I'm not the biggest fan of deep fried (and breaded) mushrooms

thinking about attempting to sautee them but I don't have olive oil just sunflower oil (olive oil is hella expensive) and no butter only margarine ._ .

(I deeply apologize to you Fritter if this ask causes you a headache)

Sauteeing would be the typical preparation, but you can go about it other ways, too. If you slice them up lengthwise after washing and put them on a pan, you can drizzle the sunflower oil just like olive oil to give the mushrooms a good base, and then add your choice of seasonings and put them in an oven or other mostly covered cooking space. You could also skewer and grill them with other vegetables and meat, or you could cut them into smaller pieces and put them in with a soup broth with your choice of seasonings and vegetables. Garlic pairs great with mushrooms and can be utilized just by rubbing it in with the other seasonings and oil.

Just be sure not to cook them too long-- mushrooms cook fast once you have the right temperature, and if you don't stop it in time you may end up with something closer to a scorched charcoal rather than the fungi you and I both know and love. Here's a few other seasonings that pair well, since I have the time:

Parsley

Rosemary

Basil

Tarragon

Sage

Thyme

Coriander

Don't use all of them at once, just choose two to start with that you like the smell or flavor of, and then add the garlic, salt and pepper. Overwhelming a dish with too many flavors can muddle your intent and make it hard to swallow.

I had been meaning to get back with you for awhile, now, but things have been a bit messy on my end. Is this what all you've been working on? A tavern? I didn't realize you were hoping to go about owning your own business. It's impressive, what you've set up here. I don't suppose you sell food in addition to drinks?

"Get... back with me...?" Chilchuck blinks, surprised by the man's familiarity with him despite never having seen him before. He thinks he'd remember a face like that. This must be someone who knows that other Chilchuck. What a social butterfly he must be.

"i'd certainly hope it's impressive, considering I've been running this place for nearly fifteen years now," he crosses his arms, feeling a burst of pride in his chest. He's worked damn hard to get where he is today, after all, he's allowed to feel good about it. "Running a guild doesn't pay the bills, and it's not as lucrative as dungeon delving is, but running a tavern involves you in the community more than dungeoneering will, that's for sure."

He offers the dwarf a short but comprehensive menu, a small magical seal in the corner similar to the water walking spell to prevent it from getting stained. A lot of the dishes are fish, thanks to Kahka Brud and the Island's main exports, but among the selection are also steaks, pies, burgers and sandwiches. "Here, take your pick. If you want substitutions you'll have to fork over an extra two gold to pay for the cook's emotional distress. I'm one of those real sensitive types, you see."

This visit was planned more to catch up rather than to have lunch, but perhaps it would be nice to have someone else cook, for a change. ...If Chilchuck was even interested in seeing him, that is.

Senshi studies the slightly smaller man for a moment, a bit confused. Why did he seem to be so uncertain? Was it something about the way he had asked? It had been a month or so since he had been able to get back together with the other members of the party, but. Perhaps Chilchuck was not as keen as Senshi was to get back together. The dwarf's shoulders slumped a little as he took the menu, trying not to show his slight disappointment. He didn't want to make the man think they had to reconnect, if he was so busy with things here.

But then, just as his eyes began to skim the first couple of dishes, his brain caught up with him. He blinked.

"Fifteen years? Who took care of this place while you were in the dungeon, then?"

Surely he would have mentioned something as big as a tavern that was already in place during their time beneath the surface with one another, right? Chilchuck had always been closed off about his life outside of the dungeon, but they had slowly opened up to one another more as they travelled. And not once had he ever said a thing about owning a place like this. Strange.

Just as he'd expected, this man is one of the other Chilchuck's friends. It's becoming a more common occurance than he'd like, and he's not sure how he feels about it.

"Sorry to get your hopes up, but I'm not your Chilchuck," He sighs, unable to quite look him in the eye, "I'm not all that sure how it happened, there being two of me running around- Your friend Marcille probably knows more about it than I do considering she knows magic, but I'm not him. We grew up the same, sure, but I quit dungeoneering years ago and I've been running this tavern ever since."

He gives the man a look over and frowns, "As far as I can tell, I've never met you before. I'd never met Marcille before she dropped in on me a few days ago either. I'm starting to think I haven't met any of the people he cares about. So far, it seems like a real shame."

People look at him these days and see a Chilchuck who did not let his cowardice get the better of him, who worked up the guts to keep digging so his family didn't have to. Idly, he wonders if this is something that other Chilchuck has to deal with too, people looking at him and seeing a tavern owner instead of a picklock.

"I'm not sure where your Chilchuck is," he admits, "You'd have to ask Marcille. I don't make a habit of asking too many questions about him, it's better for my own sanity that way, but I can't imagine he keeps terrible company. You're welcome to stay as long as you like." Truthfully, he doesn't think the man will stay very long, not if he's looking for someone else, anyways. Carefully, to maintain some distance, he amends his statement, "...As long as you buy a drink or a meal every now and then, that is."

Not His Chilchuck?

The dwarf's brow furrowed as he tried to comprehend what exactly that could mean. There were...multiple Chilchucks? Perhaps this was some sort of. Odd twin situation. Or perhaps Chilchuck was just a very popular name for half foots, and "his" Chilchuck had exactly the same hairstyle, and clothes. And.

...Well, there would be the slightly less favorable answer, which would be that this was somehow another talking monster. Like the mimic octopus, but...more articulated, and individual. That just so happened to take the form of one of his previous party members.

That was definitely a disconcerting idea that Senshi wasn't a fan of dwelling on.

Shaking his head, he gives an apologetic look, feeling embarrassed.

"My apologies-- I, guess I wasn't aware of this situation. I haven't been able to get back together with him in a moment, so I didn't realize there was...a bit of an identity crisis, happening."

The dwarf tsks his tongue, fidgeting uncertainly, before looking back at the menu and avoiding the other man's gaze. There wouldn't be much of a reunion to happen here, but, he supposed that he could still buy something, especially since he had come in hungry. It had been a long time since he had gotten topside food, and it was the least he could do for the trouble of bothering this man with questions about someone else.

"I could still go for a meal, if you don't mind. But I'm not exactly one to be decisive. Would it be too much to ask for you to make whatever it is you enjoy making the most?"

At least, then, he could tell if this was a monster or not-- most monsters wouldn't Have a favorite meal, and would struggle to come up with something. If this was some sort of farce made in attempt to get closer to himself or the other party members, he could deduce it before more trouble came.

I'm getting concerned. This seems highly unusual and potentially dangerous if the nearby natural dungeons are somehow producing this kind of monster. Has something been happening at the castle that I have been unaware of?

Well. You did ask a question. It deserves answerin'. I'm just not sure I am the one capable of doing such a thing. While I appreciate your sentiment about my horns, I can't give much advice on something I don't personally know. I've only ever spoken to one monster before, and that's that walking mushrooms fellow. My expertise is more on the side of cooking monsters, rather than being a monster.

You're brothers? But. You aren't the same species. How did you find each other?

I know Laios, yes, I was apart of his party for a long while before this. I taught him how to cook monsters. But ...er, well, I don't plan to cook you or the Shroom, if that's what you're concerned about-- generally most beasts that speak are sentient, and I try not to go about cooking or eating such things unless really necessary. There have been exceptions, but not something I would do lightly.

[ The dwarf waves the air in a "surrender" motion when the chick puffs up. He gives the kid a good natured chuckle. ]

Oh, don't worry. You're not going to have anything like that happen, not from the likes of me. Though, I wasn't aware the great mad mage had such an appetite to fulfill that he could eat a whole dwarf!

...

Ah, and there you are-- the previous Lord himself. I was wondering what you were up to, now that everything has settled. I didn't expect you to decide to take up raising monsters yourself after all of this, considering how long you had been down there with them. I don't suppose you have any idea how these beasts started talking?

Hi king i hope you are well my stomach hurts what do I do

The stomach is a fickle thing. The reason for your ailment could come under any number of reasons, so I can't guarantee that my remedies will do much good, but. Might I suggest peppermint oil? The concentration helps to soothe the inner lining by providing a cooling reaction to irritated muscles. Taking it with a warm drink like tea can many times help with aches, especially if combined with ginger.

Lying on your left side and applying gentle pressure by holding a pillow close can help, too. Listen to your body and think about what you have eaten recently. If you haven't had water or food at all, it might be a good idea to see if someone could bring you some lukewarm water or warm soup and bread. If you have eaten recently, it may be a good idea to go to relieve yourself and see if the pain is related to tension from your intestines. That's what I've learned from my time trying many different monster foods, at least.

Your best bet is to rest, more than anything else. The body is reactin' to something going on within it, and it will take care of itself so long as you listen to your needs and do your best to provide it with the resources.

Hm. I'm no magic user, but if you know what might be happening with him, I could attempt a natural remedy. Food can do wonders for the health of the body if you use the right ingredients. What was he doing before this?
