I’ve heard about the Full Metal Panic! Family movie, but I’ve only seen promotional videos so far. Has it actually been released?

I’m also trying to find more information about the fam novels, but there doesn’t seem to be much interest or coverage about them lately. I really want to learn more about Nami.

I feel like It’s really hard being a Full Metal Panic! fan these days. 😩

(And I've completely stopped using twt/x and refuse to give them any traffic but it's where Gatoh and Shikidouji and the Kadokawa imprints are, so I miss out on a lot... i wish they'd move to bsky now that it's taken off)

As for the "movie".... they really pulled a fast one on us with the phrasing. I've never ever seen them call a video like that anything other than a CV (commercial video) before. It was just a little voiced advertisement with some animation editing done to static images...

idk why they called it a "special movie" (they used that English when talking about it) but man do those words not mean what they seemed to thought they meant.......

I love "i would kill for you" ship dynamics but what about "i would stop killing" ship dynamic??

I would lay down my sword for you. I would change my nature and go against everything i've known. I would resist the easy way out of solving my problems. I would give up the adrenaline of battle to stay by your side and make tea instead. I'm not sure I know who I am without a weapon in my hand because I've had to fight for so long but for you I'm willing to try and figure this out.

It must be hard. To put down your weapon that's protected you for so long. It's allowed you to stay alive it's kept you from getting hurt--physically and mentally. Because you've never had to worry about a real relationship if you think you'll be dead at the next battle. And you feel naked without it and it feels like you're ripping off an extension of yourself. Are you even whole without it? Are you worthy of being loved if you can't prove it by risking your life? And yet they've found someone who's asking them for something much harder than dying in battle on their behalf. They've found someone who wants them to live. And that's much more terrifying.

Have you read the fmp family novels

Sadly no... I own the two that're out, but my Japanese isn't good enough to read a novel. Manga I can mostly manage, as long as it's not a period piece or full of puns or references. But books are too much for me at my level.

I know people were a bit confused seeing Sousuke drinking alcohol. I would've expected it'd be because he semi-practiced Islam (though I'm not surprised he seems to have stopped, it was never a huge part of his identity), but people were mentioning the fact that he lost part of his liver. So to that, I would like to remind people:

The liver regrows.

Well, "regrows" is slightly a misnomer. It becomes hypertrophic (oversized, in this case it's similar to scar tissue or a callus) but the cells mature quickly then work just as regular liver cells. And this can happen pretty quickly. So after decades, yeah, he's probably got pretty normal liver function.

I'd be more worried if I saw him scarfing a whole bunch of bananas than I am seeing him imbibe in a couple fingers of whiskey.

It's in Dancing Very Merry Christmas, and as it's part of narration, I don't think it made it into the manga either so it probably is light novel only.

“I’ve heard it’s a custom known as Christmas Eve.” Sousuke knew that Christmas was a Christian custom, but as someone who had fought with an Islamic mujahideen, it had little meaning to him. He was actually much more conscious of Ramadan, which was beginning three days before it this year. To Sousuke, Christmas was primarily a period when the alertness of his enemy in his Afghani days, the Soviets, was reduced... and nothing more.

To be fair, the original poster is a Japanese fan who resides in Japan and has constant access to first-hand spoilers and translations and said they read chapter 7 from what I understand, so it wasn’t just a blurb.

The forum post IS just a blurb though, it's just a few salacious pieces of info from a chapter of a serialized work. You canNOT accurately make the calls so many of the comments are making from what was posted, and the commenters are who I'm referring to when I said 'in a language you can't read.'

Going by Gatoh's writing history, and *gestures at all of FMP* the vitriolic comments are just people reacting in bad faith and that's what I can't stand

I know I'm a Western fan, but man, Western fans are the fucking WORST at times like this. Anyways, I'm obviously no fan of the love triangle, but Gatoh wouldn't make it ever a serious contender. And as for Tessa, didn't she have a sort of unofficial relationship with Ronny? Like, I don't think she's actually loveless, or so hung up on Sousuke that she couldn't get over him or some nonsense. She was over him by Nick of Time. She could just be career oriented, which honestly suits her. A single childless woman in her forties isn't a failure, what the fuck is this, the fucking 1950s? GTFO with that sexist bullshit

I wanted to find some community for fmp and I made a mistake in going to 4chan, yikes the people there are so toxic, just hating on Sousuke’s and Kaname’s family. Like stay away! Reddit is awesome though, we get updates everyday and engagements and the people are super cool and fun. I wish Tumblr had more engagements too because I really prefer it here but it’s closed to non existent and it used to be so active before. I miss those days were you get hundreds of posts.

I'm never sure how to increase activity here, maybe I should rb old posts or something, I don't really have anything new to write about on the series for now, so reviving old stuff is kinda all I can do as far as providing info and the likes goes. My Japanese unfortunately isn't good enough for translating novels (I can mostly manage manga, but narration has more complicated grammar that I'm terrible at), so I don't really have anything about the new books in spite of everything ^^;;

I'm always up for answering questions and chatting and talking headcanons, serious or silly idc, and any ideas for how to increase content/engagement on the series are welcome, I'm always happy to boost others and help ppl connect with each other, etc, however I can help facilitate the fandom, I'm here for you guys!!!

Lately it's been bothering me a bit that since Family series, I was no longer touced or heartbroken like ever even reviewed those chapters like Continue On My Own, I would be like well you two will eventually make out fiecefully in the spa this all shall pass hehe

LOL, yeah, I suppose it takes some of the heartbreak away to know that they got their happily ever after, but idk, I still find the journey heartwrenching, even if I know that it works out~ Man, they went through HELL to get where they are, they deserve all the good they have now and more~

Dragon Magazine will cease publication with the May 2025 issue :(

There will be 2 more issues, the March 25 issue releases later this month, then the May 25 issue will be end of March, and that's the final issue.

It ran for over 35 years. The end of an era....

They cite changes in the reader environment for the reason behind the decision. It is likely they will turn to online publication, but it does not appear the replacement service is able to be announced yet.
