You weren’t sure what to expect when you first took the plunge into the depths of the lake. Surely this must be suicide, but there could be no other way. All the generators along the shore had been completed; there were no other options.

And so with resolves made, you took a deep breath, and took the plunge.

Bitter cold swept across your body, enveloping you like a blanket that had somehow been left in a freezer. It wasn’t the same stinging cold you’d experienced before when lakeside swimming in reality, but the chill was still very much there. Your body sank like a stone to the bottom of the lake floor, somehow crushing pressure of the water failing to affect your fragile body.

This breath was barely lasting you now since your descent. Your mind screamed at you for what you were about to do, and yet all the same you fought back against it.

Deep bubbles released into the dark, watery abyss, floating up from your mouth as you released your only breath. Somehow… you were fine. Water in, water out, your lungs accepted the faux liquid if though nothing had changed. Everything about this watery grave was built for these trials. Your bravery gave you a chance, now you had to take it.

A few steps in, your walking speed had barely changed from upon the surface. Sure enough, you found a generator, hidden down here beneath the dim-lit waves.

You were doing well, the generator looking in fair shape. You’d make it out of here yet.

Enjoy your stay here at the quiet banks of the Dark Lake. Watch as the moon and stars reflect off the gentle waves, how they splash up just the slightest against your toes dipped into the dirt. The wind hums gently across the waves, frogs hop and splash in the blackened water, in the grass crickets sing their gentle songs.

Don’t mind what tricks play on the back of your mind. Don’t mind what you think your hear echoing off in the distance. It doesn’t matter now.
