Hidan frowned, looking less than enthused with that suggestion despite that she’d frequently made threats about cursing her leader before- those were in jest, simple complaints and not signs of mutiny. “My attacks are the slowest and weakest out of everyone, though, with the exception of my ritual.” She pointed out cautiously. “I mean, I’m pretty damn strong, but I don’t think I could kill them all. Besides, I agreed to join, so wouldn’t it be a pretty shitty thing to do to betray them? It’s not like they betrayed me first… unlike that worthless village Yugakure.” Yugakure had betrayed not only its soldiers but the shinobi way to begin with. Besides being a rogue, though, she liked to consider herself a loyal comrade to her god and her allies both. “I can fight for you much better with Kakuzu by my side.”

"They are mere heathens. If they do not join our cause, then they will be sacrificed eventually anyway, so why not now? Betrayal is irrelevant. All that matters is that these souls return to me. Though you could try to convert them before sacrificing them. Well, I understand they are a bit overpowered when compared to you."

The grin faded and a blank expression settled on the cat's face. "You are quite attached to this Kakuzu human. He is very strong. He would be a great asset. If only you could convince him to join us. You do make an excellent team. And with my gifts Kakuzu could become even more powerful. He is also more cunning than you. He would be perfect."

He doesn’t mean for her to lie, she’s sure. She’s an awful liar, blunt and honest, who wears her emotions on her sleeve and shouts all her opinions without a modicum of tact, but promises of power and such must be true in any case. What he’s suggesting seems to be to withhold other awful truths about his religion- the difficult parts, the annoying parts, like the self-injurious ceremonies she’s compelled to complete. “You’ve got a point. Every damn person seems greedy and motivated by nothing but self-interest.”

If she left them, she’d surely lose her greatest asset-Kakuzu. “Then I’m sure those infidels would come after me for defecting. It’s not like I’m just allowed to quit.” Hidan protests. “That’d make doing anything harder for me.”

It hadn't seemed possible, but the cat's grin broadened even more. "They cannot come after you if you sacrifice them. If you do, you will no longer have to do what that false god says. You will no longer have to be part of their organization. You will be able to sacrifice more and convert people more easily. We would both gain a lot from this outcome."

omfg. literally crying. i have always seen my characters as my family and imagined them there with me and they have power like no one else does. because they are a part of your mind, and so when your character tries to raise your self-esteem, or help you out with a relationship problem, etc., it’s actually you doing that. but your mind puts your thoughts in the facade of a character that helps you be more comfortable with it. your fucking mind solves its own problems when it knows you don’t want to listen to yourself by using a back door method and establishing those traits in your characters. it is freaking incredible.
