People don't realize how important the movie Ratatouille was when it came out. It was a movie that taught children we could be heroes even if we were fancy French chefs with big white, mushroom hats. It completely subverted the classical portrayal we were so used to, with Alfredo Linguini actually befriending the talking animal, while the supposedly normal people try to kill it. I'll never forget being seven years old, sitting in that theater on opening night and craning my neck just to see a glimpse of the screen between the forest of other tall chef hats. That day, I knew I wasn't alone.
