A character can murder someone in cold blood - can murder many people in cold blood - but if a writer realllyyyy wants to get the point across that this is a Bad Person, the method they always use to make the character cross the line from Lovable (if bloody) Scamp to Completely Irredeemable is to have that character rape someone.
