It's obvious how the split between the Alastor and Vox has deeply affected Vox, I mean the dude flips the fuck out just by the mention of Alastor's name, he somehow fucking developed a legitimate kink of seeing Alastor suffer. He clearly wants him dead and out of the picture. Vox is the most calm, collected, and level headed of all the Vees EXCEPT when Alastor is on his mind, then he becomes the most batshit insane of all of them.

This is a level of hate driven obsession is only really developed whenever you feel deeply wronged and betrayed by someone you once deeply trusted and loved regardless if said love was romantic or not.

However I personally think this split has deeply affected Alastor WAY more then we think. Alastor is just MUCH better at hiding it, and handles it in far more subtle ways.

To see the bigger picture, we need to examine what we have seen reguarding Alastor's genuine friendships.

Alastor's long term friends and close allies consist of Rosie, Niffty and Mimzy.

I know you're probably wondering why the hell I'd bring up Mimzy, but hear me out. It's very important to note it's the longest one Alastor has had since it goes back to when they were alive.

And It's clear by Mimzy's reaction when Alastor tells her to leave the Hotel if she won't take ot seriously is that Alastor typically doesn't react that way or may have never reacted that way, meaning Alastor probably doesn't mind or even enjoys cleaning up Mimzy's messes. We also might have to consider the fact that Alastor might have felt forced to say that to avoid angering whoever owns him.

It's also important to note Alastor doesn't just open up his arms to hug just ANYONE. AND He was the one who initiated this very intimate interaction.

Nor is he completely fine with someone touching him as much as Mimzy. He INITIATED the hug on his own terms and he LETS her touch him. The only other two people he's comfortable enough with to let them do that is Rosie and Niffty.

He was NOT upset when Mimzy showed up. In fact her showing up completely changed his mood from being upset and angry to happy and pleased. Keep in mind this was the first episode where we saw Alastor in such a openly bad mood for an extended amount of time. Mimzy showing up by surprise lifted his mood A LOT.

There's probably something deeper going on here. We don't know how far back Alastor and Mimzy go outside the fact they were friends when they were still alive. They could've been childhood friends or met later in their lives, we don't know.

Regardless, let Alastor's friendships into a timeline.

Alastor and Mimzy became close when they were alive anywhere between the 1900s and 1920s (Mimzy died before Alastor) then reunited in Hell sometime after Alastor died.

Rosie most likely died before Alastor. They likely became close allies and friends anytime after Alastor died (1933) and at the latest the 1940s.

Both Niffty and Vox died sometime in the 50s. But it's important to note we dont know who died first and who Alastor met and became close with first.

(I'd personally bet on Niffty first but it doesn't really matter too much)

Despite the fact he likely owns Niffty, I really don't think her and Alastor have much of a one sided relationship. If anything Niffty probably doesn't mind he owns her and Alastor clearly fully respects her and has a close relationship with her.

But notice Alastor hasn't become allied or genuinely close with someone since Vox?

Notice how Vox found and deeply befriended new people who became his close allies after he and Alastor split?

Alastor hasn't formed a geninue, mutual friendship SINCE his friendship with Vox ended. He stuck to the old allies while Vox found new ones.

This split might have affected Alastor enough to actively go out of his way to not form genuine two-sided friendships and more allies and only meet new people to use for his own gain, even if he does think fondly of the people he wants to use. (I.E. Charlie and the Hotel)

Alastor doesn't want to face the future and enjoys staying in the past. Vox doesn't want to face the past and enjoys living in the future. But they are FORCED to whenever they even think about the other. Alastor's existence FORCES Vox to face the past. Vox's existence FORCED Alastor to face the future.

I think Mimzy would have loved this 1931 Lil Hardin Armstrong hit about transactional relationships, because I'm sure Mimzy was exactly that kind of gal and I love that for her.

So… take a look in this. This is one of old arts by Viv from many years ago, and it sparked a thought that I can’t stop circling back to. What if Mimzy was canonically in a relationship with Alastor when he was alive?…

Not necessarily a perfect or healthy one but a real, emotionally significant connection. The more I think about it, the more it would explain a lot about how Alastor relates to closeness, intimacy, and attachment now… We know Mimzy appears in season one after seven years… and she doesn’t actually come back to check on him, reconnect, or even ask how he is. She comes back because she needs protection. Again. That alone paints a very one-sided dynamic.

If Mimzy was someone Alastor genuinely cared about in life: romantically or semi-romantically… then this pattern fits painfully well: every time he lets himself care deeply about someone, it ends up being unequal, transactional, or exploitative. And that wouldn’t be the first time.

The first person Alastor ever truly cared about was his mother… and she died. Then Mimzy who, consciously or not, learned to rely on him for comfort and survival. Even if at some point he ended the romantic aspect, staying in a “friendship” would still keep him in that familiar role: the provider, the protector, the one who gives more than he receives…

It’s also interesting that Alastor seems far more comfortable spending time with women than with men. He keeps a noticeable emotional distance from men, while appearing more relaxed and playful around women - yet still guarded.

Another layer to this is the fact that for most of his life, the company of women seems to have been safer for Alastor than the company of men. We can already infer this from the way men look at him in his flashbacks… there’s judgment, tension, dominance, something threatening in their gaze.

Meanwhile, his closest and most formative emotional bond was with his mother - a woman he deeply loved, and who died while he was still alive. She is gone forever - if she’s in Heaven, he will probably never see her again. That kind of loss matters…

It creates patterns. And when you think about Alastor’s history, those patterns repeat themselves almost painfully clearly. Mimzy doesn’t feel like an exception… she feels like part of a cycle. A cycle where Alastor gravitates toward emotional bonds that are uneven: where he gives protection, stability, presence… and receives very little in return. Where closeness exists, but only on terms that ultimately cost him something.

This is why I don’t think he’s incapable of intimacy or that he rejects it outright. I think he’s traumatized by it. By what intimacy has meant in his life so far: loss, imbalance, exploitation, emotional risk and the constant threat of losing control - either over himself, or over the situation.

It’s also telling how often men in his past are framed as sources of pressure or danger. Between the judgmental stares in his flashbacks, the dynamic with Vox, and the way power struggles tend to form around him, closeness with men seems to carry an added layer of threat for him.

Women, by contrast, appear emotionally safer, familiar territory. Not harmless, but less confrontational. Less invasive. And even then, he keeps his distance. All of this makes me believe that Alastor isn’t someone who hates touch or affection by nature.

He’s someone who learned that caring deeply almost always comes at a cost. That letting someone matter means risking being used, abandoned, or losing control over himself. So he adapts. He masks. He keeps things playful, theatrical, ironic. He stays just far enough away to never fully fall.

Because as he himself says: ”there are no friends in Hell” And yet… beneath all of that… This lines up with the old Alastor playlist Viv made years ago -The songs chosen for him. She has framed him as deeply sensitive, emotional, and capable of genuine attachment. Just… extremely guarded. That all makes me think this isn’t about a lack of feeling at all… It’s about survival. But he won’t admit it for sure…
