we need a better way to verbally quantify sauce in creative works. like i couldn't tell you what makes the musical stylings of people like stomach book or femtanyl so good without using the word "sauce" at least one. they should invent a new way to do this
tryna think of some alternatives
dip, condiment, marinade, uhhh pickle juice. brine...
‘The biggest rollback of disability rights in a generation’ – Charities respond to Supreme Court ruling
The uk Supreme Court has just done a major rollback on disability rights and is putting more disabled people in danger
Under this new ruling, multiple vulnerable groups will be impacted across social care and healthcare sectors. If an autistic person with high support needs, someone with a serious mental illness, or a person with a severe learning disability is locked in a care setting and sedated, but does not actively protest, they will no longer be considered "confined" by the state. They will lose their automatic right to independent reviews, a legal advocate, and protection from closed care cultures.
This ruling states if someone is sedated and does not instigate a complaint regarding their circumstances while ACTIVELY SEDATED, then they have no right to legal checks and balances to preserve their wellbeing??? Is this correct??? The UK is falling apart.
As far as I can tell from reading the statement by Mind and the BBC article, this ruling states that people who don’t have the legal capacity to understand why they’re being physically or chemically restrained/ kept in a locked care home or ward etc. are still able to give “consent” to that treatment in a way that it doesn’t count as a deprivation of liberty.
So if someone is chemically sedated, doesn’t understand that’s what’s happening, but doesn’t complain then they could be seen to be “consenting” to that treatment. That’s true even if they don’t know what the medication is, what the effects are, how long they last or that there might be other options.
Because the presence of “consent” means that a restriction wouldn’t be considered “Deprivation of Liberty” it means these people aren’t entitled to deprivation of liberty safeguards, which including having independent checks to make sure that any restrictions to their freedom is proportionate and that they’re not being abused in that setting.
One of the reasons the ruling was made is that it placed an “undue burden” on local authorities. Basically local governments were like “hey we’re massively failing our legal duties to protect incredibly vulnerable people from abuse, any chance you could let us off so we don’t have to do it?” And the UK Supreme Court agreed with them.
The other hugely chilling “reasoning” behind this ruling (other than finances) is the idea that disabled people cannot be deprived of their liberty if they can’t understand that’s what’s happening. It’s absolutely disgusting.
how do you call a piece of artwork that has both 2d and 3d elements?

the wind is crazy wherever that guy is
I don't have time for tumblr discourse they're calling the very hungry caterpillar degenerate art over on twitter
good art is when something looks like real life, the more real it looks the more better the art. abstracted figures give my trad children nightmares, one time they were exposed to cubism and couldn't go outside for a week
for all my picky miis who don't know what's good for them
[ID: Screenshots of the front and back of a custom t-shirt in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. It is black with white and purple text. The front says: "I am an ungrateful brat, a picky hater, who does not appreciate all the gnorbel does for me." The text is formatted poorly, "brat" and "hater" are in all caps, and "the" is misspelled. The back says, in all caps" "booooo. whimsy hater [end all caps]. i have no taste for fashion." "Whimsy" is misspelled, and "taste for fashion" is in a different, fancier font. End ID.]

pisses me off when someone sees something they dont like themselves, like a piece of media with flaws, since everything has flaws, or is inspired or similar to an existing work, and they just start yelling "SLOP!!!!!" or "this is just X/this is just X and Y together"
let things exist as themselves. be alright with media that isnt one of your sweethearts, even if you dislike it. also, you dont need to put in the effort to complain about something you dont like or care for
Art block… art block has murdered me again…
kinda sounds relatable
Hey anyone notice how google translate is being pretty liberal with their translations as of late? Takin some real liberties to infer tone.
ask and ye shall receive: When I write in Japanese I usually also throw it in google translate to double check that I'm not using the wrong kanji by mistake, and two years ago it gave me very dry and literal translations.
I was doing it today and noticed it had a pretty strong voice added to the output
For reference, to give a dry translation I would put: Lately I'm into in Hanafuda. Nobody seems to know anything about it here, so they probably wouldn't understand my brilliant jokes. I guess you guys will never be able to understand "Mister November and the Scary Cave".
I have a fluent friend who is able to check my work for me and give me tips on hitting the correct tone (I was going for a comically casual feeling), so I'm confident that I'm expressing the feeling I'm intending. While Google is also hitting the same emotion, I really don't like knowing that it's assigning tone in the first place.
To check if it was editorializing based on informal grammatical choices, I formal'd up the writing to be more polite and remove any non-standard vocabulary.
I'm just like... what is anyone who is translating what I'm thinking into their own language going to think when a translation app decides that it knows my intended tone? When online communication is already so complicated and nuanced? I'm a non-native so I'm spending ages agonizing over 117 characters, but when I'm chatting in English I'm not being so deliberate. How likely is it that tools that 'naturalize' are going to make choices that don't reflect reality and lead to insulting misunderstandings? I spoke with an English learner just yesterday who thought they were being bullied (they were not, the commenter in question was just excitedly infodumping about sociology) because something was lost in translation, and I wonder if it's because of tools making choices like this. I'm just a luddite I don't trust stuff like this. stinks of ai asking me if it can rerwrite my email in a more quirky style.
What do you mean I'm just using the browser versi-
