Age 8: Everyone has crushes and I donât. Iâm a freak
Age 11: LOL what was I thinking of course I get crushes! The other kids say you get butterflies in your stomach and my tummy feels weird whenever Iâm around people⌠do I have a crush on everyone?
Age 16: So apparently that is called Social Anxiety
⨠Fun facts! â¨
đ Alloaros should be supported in the entire aspec community, not just the alloaro community.
đ Alloaros should be listened to and respected, just like anyone else in the community.
đ Getting defensive when alloaros tell you something youâre doing is arophobic isnât helping.
đ Posting text posts supporting alloaros isnât enough sometimes; it is important to listen to their voices, and combat arophobic tropes that are harming them.
I deleted my aro feelings post because my thoughts were clearly not expressed in a productive way. It was meant to be a conversational point on specific issues I feel and Iâve discussed with other aros of all sexualities both recently and in the past. But since it wasnât adding to the discussion in a positive way, I donât think it needs to stay up.
I deleted the post so only the called out versions can be reblogged. That way something harmful doesnt have a chance to spread further, even though it still exists paired with the its criticism. It was not my intention to speak over any allo aro voices, and I absolutely see how it came across as that which reinforced my believe that that post should not stay up because it was causing harm.
yeah so. this isnt an apology.
this is you admitting you fucked up, accepting that you hurt people, and saying âleave me alone about thisâ which. you dont get to do when youre the one who hurt others. you dont get to say âi know i hurt you but i didnt mean to so im going to pretend i never said that.â
âi deleted the post so only the called out versions can be rebloggedâ which versions? im looking at the post on mobile and there are three (3) responses shown in the notes. two of them are by alloaces, so only one called out version can be found without actively searching for it. i know more people called you out - i follow several. you responded to their criticism by deleting their replies, blocking them, and ultimately deleting the op. if you want to own up to your mistakes, make them visible. reblog the callouts yourself, because right now it looks like youre trying to sweep it all under the rug. right now, most of the critisim is just going to get stuck in aro and alloaro circles because alloaces dont reblog from us.
you yourself said that this post was âmeant to be a conversational pointâ but deleted anyone who disagreed with you. it wasnt going to âadd to the conversation in a positive wayâ because it isnt a positive conversation. you started it by saying âi dont like the way you use words to describe yourself.â thats not a positive starting point. thats an attack, and we reacted defensively, and youre now playing the victim.
i dont think i have a point to this. i know youre not going to listen - ive seen this play out enough times to know that. im just asking that you do better.
please

i hate the whole like pressure to experience relationships on a timeline, like youâre âsupposedâ to have crushes at a young age, âsupposedâ to start dating in high school, âsupposedâ to lose your virginity as a teen, âsupposedâ to be dating and sleeping around through high school and college, âsupposedâ to settle down in your mid to late twenties, and âsupposedâ to have your own family soon after you marry and then ur supposed to enforce that timeline on ur kids like how many times do family members ask u when ur gonna get a partner and get married⌠itâs like the natural enemy of having real, vulnerable, deep relationships with other ppl because you keep feeling like you have to settle for somebody in order to fit within that timeline, or else u feel broken and out of place for not fitting into it⌠i really believe this is why i hear about so many people being stuck in unhappy marriages like how do u cultivate something fulfilling when ur fighting against a deadline
also this feeds into the whole expectation that any of these things are âsupposedâ to be done AT ALL. thereâs nothing wrong with never or rarely having sex, with not dating around, with not getting married, with not having kids⌠i think having this kind of checklist is unhealthy not just for pressuring ppl into doing things before theyâre ready but for pressuring people into doing any of it at all point blank period end of sentence
Loads of alloros realising theyâre queer when they were younger and I was just sat there like âIâm straight cause Iâve never had a crush on anyone!â because no one ever told me that being aromantic was a thing
A pet peeve of mine as an aro is when two people on a show or movie do something that involves physical closeness and implies emotional closeness and all the shippers jump out and go "omg they're so maaarrriiied" like no!! Leave them alone!! Let two characters be casually comfortable with each other without making it romantic challenge!
Character: *gets confirmed as ace*
Every other post in the character tag immediately after: JUST A REMINDER UWU!!!!!! JUST BC THIS CHARACTER IS ACE DOESNT MEAN THEYRE HEARTLESS!!!! ACES CAN STILL FEEL ROMANTIC ATTRACTION!!!!! DO NOT FORGET THAT ACES CAN STILL LOVE!!!!!!!!!!! JUST AN UWU FRIENDLY REMINDER UWU UWU UWU!!!!!!!!
Aromanticism, mental health and suicidal tendencies [Survey]
Iâve seen quite a few of these for asexuals but so far not a single one for arospecs. Please do not take if youâre not aromantic or on the aromantic spectrum. Please reblog if you take it.
Mild trigger warning for discussions of suicidal tendencies and trauma.

My friend took away my rights for doing this. Worth it.Â
Society: You can't just stay single and live a life that's completely fulfilled without a romantic relationship!!!
Me:
What? Arocalypse will soon be approaching its 4th birthday on April 3rd, 2016. Unfortunately, its not quite going to make it, unless you decide to take over. I am stepping down as system administrator as some annual fees are due in soon, and Im ready to hand it over to the next enthusiastic perso...
I wanted to put out the word about this - as of now (March 8, 2020), Arocalypse (the main/only independent aromantic forum site) is facing imminent shutdown by around the end of the month unless volunteers can be found to take over the technical implementation and running of the site, as well as the day-to-day moderation.
Ideally, it sounds like volunteers should know at least a bit about domain registration, website hosting, and using forum software (currently invision power suite) - or at least be willing to learn.
There are some volunteers willing to provide financial support, but thereâs still an urgent need for a lead technical support admin, and Iâm guessing there may also be need for day-to-day moderation support soon as well.
Why should I care about Arocalypse?
As it stands, arocalypse is currently the only well known, fully independent and community-led and maintained public discussion space for aromantic people, in that it is independently hosted, run, and moderated, by aromantic community members instead of relying on unrelated third-party platforms like tumblr or reddit or facebook. With other sites, like tumblr, aromantic users subject to the whims of non-aromantic staff, with little ability to moderate or control their own spaces. Thereâs little to no transparency around site management and updates, and little to no resource if content is removed or censored - and at the same time, no way to remove or hide content that is problematic (like anti-aro trolls).
As an independent hosted and managed site, Arocalypse provides a space where aromantic community organizers and members can give and take feedback and provide what the community actually needs, not just whatever bare minimum is profitable for some tech company.
For another example, consider the fact that thereâs no way to remove spam or mistagged content from tumblr tags - a community-owned space like arocalypse, on the other hand, is able to develop and enforce itâs own community-driven guidelines to ensure that spam gets removed and that misplaced content gets shuffled to appropriate subforums as needed.
In additional, forum-style communities like arocalypse are also important for their general ease of use and navigability for a wide range of users, which makes them accessible to larger parts of the community than more niche and sometimes confusing platforms like tumblr. Plus, itâs centralized, and has been around long enough to have fairly good SEO, which makes it a much better landing ground for new aros who are just starting to figure out what aromanticism is, let alone how to find other more obscure community spaces and resources.
If youâve ever thought to yourself âI want to help make more spaces for aro folks, but Iâm not sure howâ - this could be a great opportunity to get involved in real hands-on aro community organizing.
And even if you donât have the time or skills to take on this position (I know Iâm in that boat right no myself), if you can at least take a moment to signal boost this it would be much appreciated!
Once again, hereâs a link to the relevant announcement and call for vounteers >>

[ID: A boy, labelled âmeâ, holds a lightsaber, labelled âbold of you to assume i want to be humanâ, behind his head to block another boy, labelled âamatonormativityâ, from hitting him with a lightsaber labelled âlove is what makes you humanâ. End ID]
For all my aro/spec teens out there - your age doesnât mean you donât know who you are. Being young doesnât mean being clueless. Your aromanticism is not a product of your youth.Â
Iâm over 20. Iâm finishing my masterâs degree. I mostly left my parentsâ home almost 10 years ago, and Iâve met a lot of people. Iâve had a lot of opportunities to âactâ or âfeelâ allo, and who I am didnât change.Â
You can be aro at 15 and stay aro till the end. Itâs natural, and the chances are high thatâs the way your life will go. Have faith in yourself and keep your head high.Â
