"But honestly, I feel like nobody knows me I'm trying to deal with depression I'm trying to deal with the pressure" My favorite song on the album so far.
Day 2
I am gonna start writing on here daily. Not sure if it's gonna help or not but I need an outlet. So what is better than a tumblr that no one reads. Today was okay. I went to work and that pretty much defined my day. Work is not terrible, though. Don't get me wrong, stocking adult diapers and vitamins is not a career but I don't think there's a person there that doesn't like me. It is refreshing to be around people I can just joke with or help out. It's one of the things keeping me going at the moment. I realized today that I'd rather be there rather than my apartment. There's pretty much one central focus at work but when I'm home my mind wanders into the dark places I wish weren't there. The cats are helpful too. I know they aren't dogs but they do love me. I feed them and give them shelter and in return they give me sanity so I think we are even. At the moment I'm laying on my couch listening to NF's new album. The lyrics hit home so hard that I could breakdown but it feels kinda good to feel like I am not the only one that struggles. Church tomorrow will probably help me. I struggle with the whole "being a fisher of men" thing, though. I believe in God and am saved and nothing will ever strip that from me because without God I am nothing but it's difficult for me to talk about for some reason. Is it enough to just be nice to people? Does my kindness reflect God to them or do I need to do more? That's a daily struggle for me. People need what I have but how do I give it to them? Something else to pray about. My dad says that a lot "pray about it". It makes me uncomfortable. The man that beat my mother talking about eternity in heaven. It's not something I can wrap my mind around easily. There's not much I hold onto from my childhood but I remember it was especially bad one day. Mom had wanted to use my dad's truck so she went upstairs to ask him about it. He was sleeping and probably high on something and he came back down holding her neck. She was crying. Chelsea was next to me whimpering and I was just standing there watching him holding my Mom off the ground by her neck with my fists as tight as they could possibly be. At that moment, I wanted him to die. He made my Mom tells us that she was wrong to ask him for that while he was sleeping. I'm not sure how long he clinched her neck that way but it felt like an eternity. This is the same man that lectures me about the importance of church and tells me to pray about my problems and decisions. It's confusing for me. Any way, I think that's all I have for today. If you do read this, and you know God pray for me. Pray that I would have the courage to let God's light shine through me no matter my circumstances. Pray that I make decisions that would help serve God better. If you don't know God then I will pray that you would. God got me through my childhood and made me better for it. God got my Mom through it. God got my sister through it. God even got my father through it. We are a broken family to say the least but God will continue to forgive us and mold us to his image.
Tired
I'm tired of things not going my way. I always take responsibility for what I do wrong but lately things are just piling up on top of me and it's not my fault this time but I am still stuck in this place. Knee deep in mud without a kind face in site to help me out. I just want to lay back and watch everything fall but here I am trying to catch it all before it hits the ground once again. Eventually I hope I get my chance to win a couple and enjoy my days. That's the dream, right?
Moment of awe
So this morning started out rough for me. My alarm did not go off and my windshield wiper fell off and I had to tie it on with a shoe string. I was sitting in traffic stewing in my own frustrations and then a song on my playlist started playing while I was blankly staring at my windshield wiper flopping around on my windshield. It got about halfway through the song and it started repeating these lines:
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Savior
I felt the need to sing along, so I did and around the fifth the time those lines repeated the words started to sink in and washed over me. Tears were running down my face and a great amount of weight was lifted off my shoulders. It has been a long time since I had one of those moments but I desperately needed it.Â

Strong
I haven't vented on here in a while and I think it is about due. So my grandma just died on Monday. She was in her 60s but she had been battling cancer for a little over 6 years. This was the woman who helped raise me. She was my second mother. She taught me about weather, music and passion. I saw her passion for God in almost everything she did. She had her slip ups, yes, but everyone does. She was always the one with her hands raised at church singing every word of all the songs. She would throw in the occasional whispered amen if the pastor said something she liked. That isn't the important part though. The important part is that she let God and her passion for him shine through her every SINGLE day of her life. Even after she got the cancer that took her life. So, when people are sitting there wondering why I'm not bawling my eyes out at her funeral they'll get this from me: even before she had cancer she greatly looked forward to dancing in heaven on the streets of gold with Jesus. She was being tormented by cancer on earth. She was not the woman I ever knew her to be. She was exhausted and only keeping strong for the people around her. Now, finally she gets to do what she has dreamed of for a very long time. That just doesn't upset me. Will I miss her? Yes, more than I realize right now probably. I envy her though and I'm glad she got to go and leave her chains behind for eternity. So if you take anything from what I'm saying here let it be that even in your darkest deepest corner you probably will have had it better than my gma and she only raised her hands and praised God in those times. May you have the strength, May I have the strength to have an ounce of the faith she had.
I actually believe artists and scientists think very similarly. Complex, abstract thought? They both have that down. Itâs all about where that thinking takes you after that.
Words cannot describe how much I love this post.
I'm only left to wonder
Why I try
This is for the ones who stand This ones for the ones who think they can
This ones for the torn down
The experts at the fall
Come on friends get up now
Youâre not alone at all
This part was for her
Does she remember?
I donât use this thing enough
Body on fire
I need someone to talk to. Someone to calm me. Someone to help me. I've never been in this situation. How do I stand up when gravity is pushing down so hard. I need someone to give me a hand.

Extraordinary
To explain this fully would take a novel, or maybe a trilogy of novels. Keep that in mind while reading this. I live a pretty good life. I have no diseases, no disabilities, I have a roof over my head and food in my cabinets. I go to the college I always dreamed of going to. I don't have a lot of friends but the ones I do have seem to value me. There are things I have to look forward to but that's what I want to pay special attention to. If you observed me for 24 hours or even for 7 days you wouldn't say to yourself "this guy has passion". You'd see a guy who gets up every day going through the motions of life. I deny that I do it, daily. It eats me up inside, too. Inside of me are all these grand ideas. I want to be a musician and a writer. I want to sing and dance. I want to travel the world. I want to be spontaneous and romantic. I want to jump out of planes and drive fast cars. I want to help people who hurt. I want to live every single day of my life like it were on purpose but for some reason I tell myself "I'll do it tomorrow". I want to know what is holding me back. Realistically the only answer is that I'm holding myself back but I do not know how to fix it.
I made a thing!
One point simply rotates around the origin (over the dotted circle). The other four points are attached to the smaller circle centered at the aforementioned point. The smaller circle rolls inside the bigger circle, while the four points actually just move in a straight line.
How To Be A Happier Person
Do you ever have those moments where you are reading something, and you come across a passage that so perfectly matches what you think or believe or have experienced that you stop and wonder if the author wrote the book specifically for you? Itâs a wonderful little occurrence when it happens. I had one of those encounters yesterday, and I want to share, because I think it will give us something interesting to chew on as we go about our business this week.
The book is called Ha! by Scott Weems. Itâs about the neuroscience of humor, and so far, it has been a refreshing perspective on a subject I work with every day (the humor part, that is; I know little about neuroscience). The excerpt that caught my attention and made me say âWowâ is about the idea of âGreat Humor,â a theory proposed by nineteenth century philosopher Harald Høffding. Here is a description of the Great Humor theory:
âEmotions, claimed Høffding, reveal themselves in many forms, typically in the form of âsimpleâ feelings, like happiness or sadness. But sometimes our emotions fuse and form organized complexes reflecting entirely new perspectives. This happens at what he called âthe heights of life,â moments when we become so in tune with our emotions that we act based on the totality of our experiences rather than in response to the immediate emotional or cognitive demands placed on us by our surroundings.â
For years, at all of my speaking engagements, Iâve been sharing with audiences that living a truly happy life is about learning how to âtake a step backâ and view adversity from a more encompassing perspective. Høffding explained this idea (in a much smarter way) over one hundred years ago! The only difference is that Høffdingâs Great Humor is described as a passive event; it just happens without you thinking about it. But I would argue that we can achieve the same outcome through conscious effort.
Letâs say youâve planned a huge family picnic, spent hours cleaning the backyard and getting the pool ready. On the day of the party, the sky opens up and it pours the entire day, forcing you to cancel the festivities. Yes, this sucks. What the hell are we going to do with this piĂąata and the 30 pounds of barbecue we bought? Your natural response may be anger or sadness, and thatâs totally cool, but how do you stop that sadness from festering and ruining your entire day?
For me, it happens by placing the problem on the scale of the âtotality of our experiences.â In ten years, when Iâm sitting on the beach on a family vacation to the Outer Banks, will it matter that the picnic was canceled ten years ago? Nope.
Life is both long and short. Long because every day/week/month/year presents infinite opportunity for good things to happen. Short because we only get a limited number of days of life.
What should we take away from this idea of Great Humor? I believe the concept is worth exploring in your own life. The next time adversity strikes, and the sky opens up on your picnic, take a step back and look at your situation with a wider lens.

When all is said and done, whether I die in two years or sixty-eight years, I want people to look back and say, âYo, that dude Shane was hella sexy and funny and tried his best to make a change in the world.â
My incredible experience here on Tumblr over the last four years has taught me this: love amongst strangers is a powerful phenomenon.
Iâm asking for your help. All it takes is a simple reblog.
I was born with a fucked up disease called spinal muscular atrophy that makes my muscles waste away as I get older. On my blog here, Iâve shown you how my disease complicates every aspect of life, from going poop to having sex to playing sports.
The older Iâve gotten, the more important it has become for me to help others going through similar situations. Â
So I started a nonprofit organization, with very little idea what that even meant, but now, Iâm finally in a position to start making real changes.
With our newest program, No More Nightmares, we provide people with my disease the adaptive technology they need to keep living awesome lives.
In order to fulfill all the grant applications we are getting, (for things like ramps, and vans, and medical equipment) we need consistent revenue.
I believe that enormous change begins with small change, and so Iâm asking for your help tonight. To continue building funds for this vital program, Iâve created a little support page.
If you can, Iâm asking that you toss us a buck or two. Together, I believe we can achieve incredible things, which translates to thousands of people with muscular dystrophy getting the things they need to thrive.
