throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s, our generation was inundated with aave. it eclipsed lolcat as the "funny way to talk." ain't nobody got time fo dat turns into dat boi o shit waddup. this is blatantly not an "aracial" or "gen z" way to talk. it IS black english. not to mention the amount of black reaction images!!
WHY, specifically, is it black peoples' facial expressions that are seen as just so comical or exaggerated? analyze the history of this nation's comedy and tell me why you might be predisposed to thinking of black peoples' faces as just, "more emotive" or exaggeratedly funny than a white or nonblack person's
and throughout those years, 00s-10s, many black bloggers -- victims of the mass staff-led purge (under the cover of them being 'russian' while reichblr still exists) -- they DID tell us it was a problem, DID try to educate people who freak out at the insinuation of 'being racist,' DID argue, DID point out the duplicity and the appropriation and the gross equivalence of african american slang with unintelligence, goofiness, etc. and they were ignored, abused, cancelled, chased off, until being eventually mass deleted by our racist transmisogynistic staff.
we didn't do enough, and the generation after us gen z "kids" didn't stop the trend. using the '-ahh' suffix. rizz. no cap. ate. delulu. it's giving. it's serving. crash out. lock in. aura. tea. main character. bruh. slay. real. keep it 100.
all of the following images are or were popular reaction images! what do they all have in common?
it feels like the effort to categorize slang as AAVE and not 'gen z' or 'gen alpha' slang has really petered out. it feels like we stopped talking about digital blackface in an era where the administration is posting ai-generated videos of black women who speak and act like exaggerated stereotypes and it frustrates me because we all have a responsibility to understand our generation's role in normalizing this type of racist shit for kids today. this needs to be addressed!
i stopped giving a shit about "legit" purchases of digital products after i spent $80 on the entire Dark Horse collection of Trigun/Trigun Maximum ebook mangas, learning that I only got access to reading them through a proprietary website ereader function, couldn't download them, and couldn't get a refund, and then literally only a year later, getting an e-mail stating that Dark Horse was shutting down that part of their company and I wouldn't even be able to read them anymore. Fuck that
Pirate shit. Don't feel bad for it. It's not "your fault" that artists, independent or otherwise, can't make a living. You downloading an album or ebook for free isn't the cause of the problem. The cause is capitalism, plain and simple, and pirating is a lucky loophole that companies are still trying to stomp out.
It might also explain why some people will refuse medical interventions but then try literally everything else.
Taking meds is an admission that you have an illness/disability. Most wellness & self-optimization products/treatments, however, are marketed with vague promises that make it easier to avoid having to do that.
It's not chronic fatigue, you're just tired and need to take a revitalizing supplement, something that boosts your energy levels and read 15 books on productivity & motivation!
I just came across a thread on r/migraine about pillows & the top comment was referencing the "Endless Pillow Quest". Apparently a lot of people just keep buying pillows in hopes that one will cure them. Even though it typically never works (for long).
We've all tried the lifestyle changes approach, and people won't stop trying any time soon.
In my case, it was mostly because the meds weren't working, because migraine was the wrong diagnosis. It was debilitating & I was just trying anything out of desperation. Cluster headaches will have you acting like that... it could've been worse.
It didn't do shit, but I kept trying. I even got dangerously close a few times to trying a low carb diet, which would've gone against everything I believe in.
Thankfully, I got the right diagnosis & meds eventually by being persistent & advocating for myself. Now I can actually exercise, eat well (anything I want! tons of carbs yay) and take care of myself in all the ways people associate with good health — as long as I take my meds.
Without the meds, I'd be right back to struggling to brush my teeth & shower regularly because I'd be fucking exhausted every day from the pain & neurological symptoms.

To strengthen their bonds ahead of their Unit Lives, the Nijigaku members are trying out various things! This time, R3BIRTH are trying out a photo sticker booth ♪
Lanzhu: "Yay! There it is! I've always wanted to try this!"
Mia: "Hey, Lanzhu. Don't swing your arms around like that. It's already cramped enough as is"
Mia: "...So, what is this?"
Shioriko: "You take pictures inside this booth. After you take the picture, you can add messages and stickers."
Mia: "oh? You can doodle on the picture? That's unusual."
Lanzhu: "I love unusual things. And I love it even more when I can do it with my friends! Alright, let's take the picture!"
Snap!
Lanzhu: "Shioriko, your face is stiff!"
Shioriko: "Huh? R-really? Maybe I'm a little nervous."
Mia: "Nervous? Why would you be nervous with us?"
Shioriko: "I don't really take pictures with friends often. So I don't know what kind of face to make... M-Mia-san, you don't really show much on your face"
Mia: "Hmph. I'm more the cool type, right?"
Lanzhu: "you say that, but you still strike a pose. I like that about you, Mia!"
Mia: "Don't cling to me so much... ah. It looks like the photo is done"
Shioriko: "Next is the message. How about this? 'wishing for success at the R3BIRTH Live'"
Mia: "That's good. Lets add a hamburger sticker too"
Lanzhu: "That's great, you two's ideas are wonderful! Ah, I wonder when it'll be complete? I want to show it off to everyone!"
Shioriko: "Fufu. Lanzhu looks really happy."
Shioriko: "But... that's it. Looking at the photo of the three of us makes me feel like our next live performance will go well!"
