XO, KITTY (2023-) 3x01 - Guest List
Some of yâall love to complain, but the way you completely disregard the actual sapphic ship in the show is wild. And no, I donât mean Kitty and Yuri. I mean Yuri and Juliana, who are or were an actual couple in the story.
But of course, letâs just discard the Black girlfriend the character genuinely loves so she can âwinâ as the main characterâs love interest. Because also apparently, being a bisexual main character means that she has to be with a woman to prove her âbi-ness,â and being with a man somehow makes her straight. SMH.

Need some Yuri and Juliana appreciation. There's barely any.
Some people are being so weird about them :/ They were literally my OG ship back in season 1. Season 2 kinda ruined them though...ugh
But we need more Yuriana love and appreciation here. The Juliana erasure is absolutely not okay...

Chemistry is chemistry and I see chemistry
what i do not like seeing is ppl calling kitty/minho heteronormative bc that too is invalidating her bisexuality just as much as saying her feelings for girls donât make sense. cut it out
I know this is impossible because it's jenny han but I hope we don't get love triangles for our otp some might like the trope but I never have.
Honestly, same. I really hope Season 3 moves away from the love triangles and focuses more on individual character development. I'd love to see a deeper exploration of Kittyâs growing feelings for Minho. One issue Iâve had with the showâs writing is how fleeting her romantic feelings can feel. One moment sheâs madly in love with Dae, and the next sheâs head over heels for Yuri.
Thatâs why I actually appreciate how the relationship between Kitty and Minho has been written so far. Itâs been a refreshing slow burn, from annoyance to reluctant friendship to something genuine thatâs slowly evolving into more. It feels more grounded and realistic compared to the typical âinsta-loveâ often shown in teen dramas, where characters are portrayed as impulsive and spontaneous when it comes to emotions.
I also hope we get more of Minhoâs backstory. His dynamic with his family seems layered and could add real depth, especially if written with some emotional weight. Season 2 also set up a promising new arc for Yuri, so there's plenty of room to grow without relying on tired love triangle tropes.
Besides, reintroducing a love triangle would only highlight Kittyâs indecisiveness, especially after she clearly acknowledged her feelings for Minho and recognized that Yuriâs past treatment of her wasnât something she wanted to go back to. Letâs move forward.
They literally reshot the plane scene to make kitty smile more. You can't tell me that wasn't for fan service
Yes, they did reshoot itâbut even in the original Season 1 finale, she already had a subtle hint of a smile. That moment was actually pointed out in the comments way back in 2023, and it was part of what sparked early hype around the possibility of their pairing. But to be honest, I donât think it ever blew up enough for the production team to fully catch wind of how fans felt about that scene because there were other more obvious factors that made fans see the potential in this pairing. The smile was too subtle for anyone to really noticeâlet alone make enough noise for the production team to pick up on it and add it in as fanservice. Itâs more than likely that it was already planned in their storyboardingâthey just decided to make it a little more obvious this time around.
Her slight smile in the original cut was already an intentional directing choiceâjust like him calling her âCovey.â So unless the fanservice really started all the way back then, which wouldnât make much sense, it seems more likely that those details were just part of the narrative plan from the start. Sure, they directed her to smile a little more in the reshot version, but that raises the question: is it really fanservice if the seed was planted from the very beginning?
Also, reshooting scenes isnât anything out of the ordinaryâitâs pretty common, especially for season finales that get reused or continued in a new season. Given that itâs been two years since the original shoot, the actors naturally look a bit different. So it makes more sense to reshoot for continuity, rather than cutting straight to older footage, which would feel jarring or inconsistent.
I find it frustrating when people claim that a show changes its script or endgame based solely on audience reception. For instance, the idea that the story was rewritten to favor Mooncovey just because of their popularity feels dismissive and is such a disservice to the writers and showrunners who are doing their job. It undermines the planning, intention, and creative direction laid out by the writers and showrunners. These stories often take months, if not years, to develop, and suggesting that major plot points are casually altered mid-way because of fan reactions does a real disservice to the craft and integrity of the creative team. It reduces their work to mere fan service rather than the result of thoughtful storytelling.
Personally, I donât think Mooncovey is fanservice at all. Their dynamic has been simmering quietly in the background since season 1âsubtle, yes, but consistent. Just because it wasnât front and center from the beginning doesnât mean it wasnât being developed. The groundwork was there: in their interactions, the way they understood each other, the little moments that hinted at a deeper connection. Itâs just that the story took its time unfolding, and now that itâs coming to the forefront, it feels earnedânot sudden or forced. And frankly, they had the most natural transition from annoyance to reluctant friends to an actual friendship.
As for Minho, I understand why some viewers might have overlooked him in season 1, especially when compared to characters like Dae and Yuri, who had more elaborate setups from the start. But that doesnât make him any less important. From his very first appearance, Minho played a meaningful role in Kittyâs journey, just as much as the others did. As the story unfolds, his character gradually develops in ways that feel intentional and organic, ultimately intertwining with Kittyâs arc in a way that brings things full circle.
If Minho and Kitty were never meant to be explored, then why was he given a classic K-drama setup? Why give them a meet-cute? Why create moments where they genuinely bond? Why have them bookend the season? Why craft a theme song specifically for their scenes? Every writing and directing choice is intentional. The same logic applies to the other characters and the roles they play in Kittyâs journey. To now claim the focus is shifting to Mooncovey solely because of fan demand undermines Minhoâs significance in the story, given heâs just as important as the other characters or love interests in the story.

Kitty, are you alright?
The romance in XO, Kitty is more of a relay than a traditional love triangleâa concept that has been foreshadowed since Season 1. Even in the very first episode, Kitty physically meets all her love interests in a relay-like sequence: first Min Ho, then Yuri, and finally Dae, who was her current love interest at the time.
This pattern is mirrored in the season finale, but with the order reversedâfirst, she meets Dae (who, after their breakup, is no longer a contender in her romantic journey), then Yuri (who she shifts her interest toward), and lastly, Min Ho. This structured progression suggests that Kittyâs romantic journey isnât about being torn between two people at once (like how Belly was in TSITP), but rather about passing the baton from one love interest to the next as her feelings evolve.
Min Ho himself foreshadows this idea in a mid-season episode when he brings up the three categories of relationships: "A reason, a season, or a lifetime." This statement perfectly aligns with the show's portrayal of Kittyâs love life as a relayânot a triangle.
This becomes even more evident in Season 2, where, just like in Season 1, Kitty experiences a shift in feelings mid-season. This time, her romantic interest moves from Yuri to Min Hoâwho, as the final person in the relay, represents the lifetime.
