I fucking HATE fake love triangles. It’s not a real fucking love triangle unless they all hv a crush on one another. It’s person a liking person b and person b liking person c and person c liking person a. NOT person b and c both like person an and they have to choose. That’s called a love corner.
Looking For a Summer Romance: The LIs of Summer With the Silverwood Wolves
As a werewolf romantasy, Summer With the Silverwood Wolves has romance as a central element that has to be carefully designed and planned for the story to actually work. My primary influences are Fruits Basket and The Inheritance Games, but I've been looking beyond those two for shaping the romantic storylines for our leading lady, Mackenzie Patterson.
Taking from both Fruits Basket according to the mangaka's interviews and Ouran High School Host Club, Mackenzie will have multiple love interests (four planned at this point in time) and while two will be the most serious, I do intend to give them all meaningful dynamics and scenes.
Multiship storylines are really fun to me, and an important part of a story like this is the wish fulfillment aspect. While there is a message and parts of the story that have nothing to do with that, I think the wish fulfillment is important in making the story more enjoyable and catering to the demographic who I want to reach with this story. Part of that is making the female lead desirable and giving multiple different dynamics that any reader could prefer.
Furthermore, I view love triangles in a matter similar to in The Hunger Games, where the potential LIs represent different paths the heroine can take.
What that means for Mackenzie in Summer With the Silverwood Wolves, I'm going to keep a little closer to the chest for now.
