Rinkū the Third (written sometimes as Rinkū III) Kravdra is a young Ornathian nobleman who is as mysterious as he is beloved—or despised. As the eldest to the Vyrrmu, Rinkū is heir to an ancient nation whom Lothen has tried very hard to both forget and enshrine. His people vanished beyond the Liquid Caldera ages ago in the footsteps of the Goddess Xiyja, which means most Lothic citizens know little beyond old legends. Like most of his people, Rinkū tends to speak in the third person regardless of the language he is using.
As an adult in Ornathian society, leaders of the various vassal nations expected him to make a grand entrance to the world’s stage—perhaps in pursuance of his mother’s wishes to conquer the nation that condemned Ornath so long ago—yet he remains oddly silent in that regard. With no foreign audiences, nor bids to marry, the Lothic House of Lords has generally considered him missing—when they consider him royal at all.
Known as Ornath’s peacemaker, Rinkū made his societal debut not in grandeur, but by disarming a rebellion that would have seated him on the throne. Rinkū is a fine warrior, a shining example of the legendary Wolfbred soldier created by ancient experiments, yet his true gift lies in diplomacy. His goal is to restore diplomatic relations between the Theocracy of Lothen and the Remnants of Ornath before he becomes Vyrkar (King,) which unfortunately includes constantly having to convince his mother to not smite people. To this end, Rinkū took the name of Akramu and eventually was placed as bodyguard to Lothen’s crown princess and high priestess, Elvira Esmerelda Harkon, via cooperation between the Throne of Light and Rinkū’s parents. Despite all Lothen’s objections, Rinkū maintains a professed faith in the Goddess Xiyja: a being the Lothic church has repeatedly dismissed as a cultist and heretic.
Rinkū has a congenital endocrine disorder known as Testosterone Imbalance Disorder (TID,) a disease ancient Mireenri created in the super-soldier era to ensure male Wolfbred would remain subservient to Lothen's royalty. In return for his years of faithful service and companionship, Elvira Esmerelda protects him when life becomes harder. The banished Mireenri princess Solitha manages a stabilization regimen for his benefit, as well. He gets self-conscious when his chest hair becomes sparse, as a full "coat" on the chest is important for male Wolfbred, but Elvira assures him he's handsome regardless. An accident involving mandated muzzle restraints for Wolfbred resulted in the traumatic loss of most teeth in Rinkū’s upper right jaw. Elvira has not let her kingdom forget it.
Rinkū the Third is named for Rinkū the Second, the Wolfbred king at the founding of Lothen. Rinkū II is remembered by Lothen as a traitor. Rinkūs are believed to be sacred kings whose souls do not fully depart, exerting pressure on the world long after death. Rinkū the Third has magic that appears to be related: he can see spirits and interact with them if he is motivated enough to cross the veil, can perceive remnants of divine intervention, and will experience visions if he comes into contact with the remains of a sentient being. Rinkū seems to have some control over objects in the mortal realm, as he once used his magic to execute an assassin, but the extent of his control is not known. His role in Ornathian society, when he is home, is to perform funerals/last rites in the capital region and for special individuals out among the Wildlands. He was appointed to this role as his sight assures the people that the servant of Xiyja, Berdra, came to lead their loved ones to Heaven. It is expected he will continue this role even after his coronation.
Ornath longs for the day he becomes king. Rinkū prays they’ll survive it.
